Grand Nursing Theorist
Collaborative Learning Community, Grand Nursing Theorist Assignment, Theorist Identification and Rationale
This is a CLC assignment.
The purpose of this assignment is to have a clear understanding of the elements of a theory and to apply a theory to practice. The CLC group must use a grand theory or a high-level mid-range theory.
The group will create a report for a practice committee at a health care institution. The objective is to convince your peers of the value of using a specific theory to guide practice and evaluate care.
Since the text does not provide adequate information on any one theory for the purpose of this assignment, further research through nursing theory websites (general and specific), as well as theory texts specific to individual theories, will be required.
Begin the assignment by identifying a theorist and providing the rationale for the group’s selection.
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the GCU APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.
You are required to submit this assignment to Turnitin. Refer to the directions in the Student Success Center.

Virology Discussion

Viruses are not life-forms themselves, because they can’t survive on their own. They must take over about the biology of viruses. Viruses are very small particles that act as cellular parasites. It’s cellular machinery in order to survive.
This chapter initially talked about factors common to all viruses, and then turned to those aspects that are particular to HIV. HIV is a member of a class of virus know as retroviruses. While most viruses use DNA as their genetic material, retroviruses use RNA Reverse transcriptase is a protein in retroviruses that copies RNA into DNA, and then helps the viral DNA integrate into the cellular chromosomes, where it will remain for the life of that infected cell.
For this discussion, choose one example of the viral biology to focus on. Choose one aspect that was unusual interesting to you. Do some research to find out a little more about it. Here is a list of examples, but you can think of other Ones as well:
a. the retrovirus life cycle
b. anti-HIV therapies
c. the ELISA “HIV test”
d. the fate of HIV infected cells
e. HIV latency
f. direct cell to cell spread of the HIV
g. how HIV kills T-cells that aren’t infected with HIV
h. If viruses aren’t alive, what motivates them to keep going on?
Each student should write up one primary post of about 150-200 words.

Assignment 2: Organizational Structure and Culture Change

You are employed in a large consulting firm. A new client has engaged your firm. It is a well-established, nationwide company that for years dominated the market share in its niche industry. The company has a traditional, hierarchical, and function-based organizational structure with many levels of management and uses centralized decision making. The organization prefers to use a small number of account managers based in the headquarters as the point of contact for all customer inquiries and problem resolution. The culture is conservative, stable, and risk averse. Teamwork is considered wasteful.
The company is noticing a disturbing trend of customers switching to its competitors. These competitors are small, agile firms that emphasize rapid adoption of new technologies and fast, empowered, team-based customer service. These companies are local to their customers, while your client has a central headquarter office with four regional offices that only provide limited services.
Based on its own internal study, the client company wishes to undertake organizational structure change and organizational culture change. They seek advice on what specific changes are needed.
You have been assigned to the team working on this project with one of your firm’s senior consultants. The team has asked you to draft a presentation for internal review. Ultimately, the presentation will be delivered to the client by the project manager.
Your task is to create a presentation, with speaker notes, including the following:

  • Analyze and describe the reasons why the current organizational structure makes your client vulnerable to its new competitors.
  • Propose a new organizational structure. Explain how the new structure will address the problem of client retention.
  • Evaluate and inform the client of the changes needed in its organizational culture to support the new organizational structure.
  • Explain how teamwork might be used to support the new organizational structure and culture. Be sure to indicate which “types” of teams will be used.

Recommendations must be supported by applicable scholarly sources.
Your final product should be a 6- to 8-slide Microsoft PowerPoint presentation (excluding the title slide and reference slide), using a minimum of 4 sources from professional literature. Professional literature may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, and .gov). Be sure you write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.

THE SPIRIT OF SERVICE AND COMPASSION THAT ONCE MOTIVATED NURSES HAS EVOLVED INTO A PROFESSIONALISM THAT DEMANDS POWER STATUS.

I NEED A POSITIVE COMMENT BASED IN THIS ARGUMENT..BETWEEN 150-200 WORDSThe text Called to Care a Christian Worldview for Nursing discusses how as nurses we have arrived at the point we are at now in terms of modern philosophies. The spirit of service and compassion that once motivated nurses has evolved into a professionalism that demands power status and appropriate compensation (Shelly & Miller 2006 p. 16). This topic is the most interesting to me due to the fact that over the six short years I have been a nurse I have seen the population of nursing change. I have been involved in a peer interview group on my unit for the past five years and have recently moved into a management position wear I actually hire employees. I remember in the beginning of my experiences of interviewing new nurses most had a story behind the interview question Why did you become a nurse? I remember one new graduate nurse explaining that her mother and grandmother were both nurses and she aspired to be like them caring respected smart and making a difference with their work. Another nurse explained that her husband had died of alcoholism and she watched as his nurses judged him and did not treat him with respect. It was her goal to do better as a nurse and provide her patients with respect and the care they deserved no matter what their background. Most recently I have seen a change in the reasons why nurses are choosing the profession. The last interviewee discussed how the hours were great; 3 12s and it works out great for her family life. I have noticed an increase in the theme of the convenience nursing allows for people and less of the compassion or calling. The analysis of disease and healing presents interesting insight into the role of healthcare providers and spirituality. They stand beside us but they have not voluntarily shared our fate (Meilaender 2013 p. 9). The text describes the contradictory relationship between God working through doctors to treat disease and treating the disease may enable a false hope of invulnerability therefore creating the inability to comprehend suffering. I understand the reading to mean that there must be a balance between God (Health) and healthcare (health). I agree with this inference for the fact that I believe that ones mind or relationship with God must be as strong as the belief in the doctors to provide relief. If ones mind is not in the right place the therapies will not assist in healing. Spirituality enables the direct experience of connection between the individual and God and can exist with or without an intermediary such as a religious institution (Grossman 2013 p. 1150).Grossman T. Discussion 1: Planning a Needs Assessment
Social workers often identify client problems that suggest the need for a new or more focused service. Rather than bemoaning the lack of resources, many social workers consider creating new services in the future. They might next imagine what an appropriate service or program would look like. This week, you generate a needs assessment plan for a program that meets an unmet need of your choice.
To prepare for this Discussion, review the examples of needs assessments presented in both of the readings. Consider the elements of a needs assessment plan that you must include in your own plan.
· Post a needs assessment plan for a potential program of your choice that meets a currently unmet need. Describe the unmet need and how current information supports your position that a needs assessment is warranted.
· Identify the sources of information that you might use when conducting a needs assessment, including potential informants.
· Explain who among these potential informants would be valuable resources and why. Identify steps for obtaining credible, unbiased information.

Discussion 2: Remaining Compassionate and Professional
As a social worker, you interact with individuals who are at various stages of change in their lives. This may become frustrating for you when clients are struggling to achieve their goals. Thus, it is important for you to develop strategies to process your experiences so that you can maintain your compassion and professionalism. As you consider the strategies you have developed to address these issues, also consider how you might help other social workers to develop such strategies. Perhaps you consulted with your supervisors when you had difficulty processing your emotions in particular situations. As you consider assuming a supervisory role, how might you apply your learning from those experiences to helping those whom you supervise?
For this Discussion, review the Levy case study in this week’s video. Consider how you, as a social worker, might address the challenge of remaining engaged with a client while not letting your emotions affect the interaction. Also, consider how you, as a supervisor, might discuss this topic with a social worker whom you supervise.
· Post a strategy that you, as the social work supervisor in the Levy case study video, might use to debrief the social worker after the session described in the video.

Discussion—Licensure, Certification Requirements, and Career Enhancement

Over the course of the past few modules you have learned about the theories of substance abuse counseling. This includes the ethical principles of counseling, ways to apply these principles, and the development of treatment plans, as well as many other areas applicable to substance abuse counseling. You discussed and answered questions about how to deal with specific situations in counseling, how to work with clients, and how to develop a theoretical framework.
By now you will have come to the conclusion that your education as a substance abuse counselor does not stop here. There are many career enhancement resources available to substance abuse counselors. To prepare for this final discussion question, explore the following resources for both career enhancement and licensure or certification requirements:

  • Addiction Technology Transfer Center National Office (ATTC). (2011). Certification information. Retrieved from http://www.attcnetwork.org/certifications/search.aspx
  • National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC). (2010). Retrieved from http://www.naadac.org/

Using the information you have examined on the recommended Web sites listed above, respond to the following questions: State of Florida!

  • Explain which of the treatment techniques discussed in this course you will use the most in your career and why?
  • Identify the areas in substance abuse counseling that you need for future learning to help you in your career and include at least one career enhancement resource available to substance abuse counselors that will help you meet this goal.
  • Explore the licensure or certification requirements in your state. What are the steps to obtain licensure or certification in your state? Identify the continuing education requirements for maintaining your licensure or certification in your state.

Write your initial response in approximately 300–400 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
