Experiential and Narrative Family Therapy – NURS 6650 Week 3 Walden University Essay Assignment Papers

Week 3: Experiential and Narrative Family Therapy

The Smiths, a family of five, present with their 14-year-old male son, Joshua, who is identified as “the patient.” Almost immediately, the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner notices the subtle struggle between the parents to be heard first, often talking over one another. Joshua finally blurts out, “You see, you two are crazy, and you think it’s me.” Joshua’s father immediately becomes angry, and Joshua’s mom is quick to rush to Joshua’s side. She begins to argue with her husband about his treatment of their son.
The Smiths and other clients like them may be candidates for both experiential therapy and narrative family therapy, and it is important to note that these are distinctly different therapeutic approaches. Experiential therapy examines experiences of the “here and now,” whereas narrative family therapy focuses on retelling one’s story to understand why one behaves in certain ways. When assessing client families and selecting one of these therapies, you must not only select the one that is best for the clients, but also the approach that most aligns to your own skill set. Experiential and Narrative Family Therapy – NURS 6650 Week 3 Walden University Essay Assignment Papers.
This week, as you explore experiential and narrative family therapy, you assess families presenting for psychotherapy. You also examine the effectiveness of therapeutic approaches for client families with impaired family functioning.

Assessment 2, Poster & Written Justification, 2500 words (50%)

AIM:

Registered nurses work with individuals, groups and communities to improve health. One way to do this is to analyse how risks to health can be reduced during changes to natural, social and/ or governmental elements in our society. As clinical leaders, registered nurses are expected to collect information about an emerging health risk from a variety of sources and collate this information into a meaningful analysis with recommendations for a specific audience. The audience for these analyses can be the public, older people or carers of older people, or nurses working in a range of practice contexts. This aim of this assignment requires you to apply your theoretical knowledge gained from modules 1, 2 and 3.

Your poster and written justification (AN INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT) must:

1. Recommend and justify the nursing requirements for older people diagnosed with, or at risk of, complex health conditions and/or cognitive decline; and

2. Evaluate the implications for nursing care related to changes in the environment (natural, social and governmental) that impact the health of older people.

For this task you will create a poster and write a justification supporting your poster inclusions and aesthetic layout.

There are two parts to this assignment. Part 1 is a poster and Part 2 is the written justification.

The total word allocation for this assignment is 2500 words and your written justification needs be a minimum of 1200 words. NOTE: You can decide how you allocate your word limit of 2500 words as long as your justification is no less than 1200 words.

TASK INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Before you begin preparing the poster or justification undertake the following steps:

I. Identify a specific health risk for a specific older adult population (aged over 65 years or over 55 years if Australian First Peoples);

II. Collect information about that specific health risk;

III. Develop a summary of your analysis of that information; and

IV. Identify an audience and make recommendations about risk reduction and treatment for that audience.

This part of the task is consistent with the approach used to collect information for an essay. You DO NOT need to submit your research/preparation materials.

2. Then , for part 1 of the assignment, create a poster to share your learning with the specified audience. The poster must provide credible and relevant information on a specified health risk and be interesting to the target audience. For more information about how to prepare an academic poster, visit the following websites:

New York University, How to Create a Research Poster – Poster Basics
Erren, T.C., Bourne, P.E. (2007). Ten simple rules for a good poster presentation. PLoS Computational Biology 3 (5), e102
Overview: How to design a poster presentation (3:07) – YouTube video
3. Please note that the aesthetic features of the poster are important and purposeful. Be selective and concise with the number and type of words used, and use language that is consistent with the audience. Ensure that claims made are based on evidence from peer-reviewed literature.
4. Next , for part 2 of the assignment you need to develop a justification for your poster. The length of the justification is 1200 words. In this, you will:
i. Provide a rationale and supporting evidence for the selection of the health risk in the specified older adult population, and
ii. Justify your selection of the audience, included content, and aesthetic features.
NOTE: If you wish to use your assignment 1/ Case Study as the basis for this assignment, this is permissible. This will enable you to examine at a deeper level the clinical encounter you analyse in assignment 1.
Additional information:
· Ensure that you use scholarly literature[footnoteRef:1] (digitised readings, research articles, relevant Government reports and text books) that has been predominantly published within the last 5 years. [1: Scholarly or peer-reviewed journal articles are written by scholars or professionals who are experts in their fields, as opposed to literature such as magazine articles, which reflect the tastes of the general public and are often meant as entertainment.]
· Use academic language[footnoteRef:2] and health specific terminology throughout. [2: Everyday language is predominantly subjective. It is mainly used to express opinions based on personal preference or belief rather than evidence. Written academic English is formal. It avoids colloquialisms and slang, which may be subject to local and social variations. Formal language is more precise and stable, and therefore more suitable for the expression of complex ideas and the development of reasoned argumentation.]
· Refer to the marking guidelines when writing your assignment. This will assist you in calculating the weightings of the sections for your assignment.
· You may use headings to organise your work and use the first person in your writing.

Assignment – Medical / Nursing tutors only

AIM:
People aged 65 years and older constitute 50% of health service users. As people age, they experience changes to their physical and mental function, and can experience many social changes in terms of family and career. For those requiring health services, these changes are further complicated by illness (Moyle, et al., 2014).
The aim of this assignment is to apply the theoretical knowledge gained from modules 1 and 2 of this course to a case study that you have encountered in a Bachelor of Nursing clinical placement. Examples of case studies may include (but are not limited to) the range of prevalent conditions examined in module 1 and 2:
· Falls and fractures
· Incontinence
· Delirium
· Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias.
TASK INSTRUCTIONS:
You will need to describe the issues in your case study, and then undertake a process of analysis in order to generate a comprehensive nursing plan of care. Practising this process of analysis will help you to feel more confident in providing nursing care to an older person in the clinical setting.
Your case study must:
1. Reflect upon the impact that various stereotypes of older people may have on the older person and their nursing care;
2. Recommend the nursing requirements for older people diagnosed with, or at risk of, complex health conditions and/or cognitive decline; and
3. Evaluate the outcomes for nursing care of older people.
For this task you need to prepare a 2500 word written assignment in a case study format. There are two parts to this assignment. Part 1 is a case study(750 words) and Part 2 is a plan of care for the person (1750 words).
Review these guides to writing a case study:
· Griffith University Guide to Writing a Case Study
· Monash University How to Write the Case Study
· QUT Writing a Case Study Response
Part 1 – Case Study (750 words)
· Introduce the purpose of the case study.
· Briefly outline the main problems as you recall and reflect on the care of an older person (over 65 years or over 55 years if Australia’s First Peoples) who has at least two (2) co-morbidities which impact on their functional status in an acute care (hospital) setting.
· Write a case study based on this experience. In the case study:
· describe the impact that specific stereotypes of older people may have on the person, and
· identify a specific, and recent environmental change impacting this older person.
Part 2 – Care Plan (1750 words)
· Develop a plan of care for the person. In your plan you must:
· Identify and justify the top five objectives for nursing care,
· Describe and justify evidenced-based nursing interventions to achieve each objective, and
· Create and describe the evaluation criteria that you will use to judge whether the plan addressed the identified objectives.
Throughout your care plan it must be clear how your decisions have been informed by a critical analysis of the case, applying concepts (stereotypes, nursing requirements, outcomes) raised in modules 1 and 2. No fewer than 10 different sources from the scholarly literature should be sourced. NOTE: It is important that you maintain confidentiality as per University guidelines and include no identifying demographic information about patients, colleagues or institutions.

· State your word count (excluding your reference list) on the Assignment Coversheet.

Personality in

Each person’s personality is unique, although the dimensions along which we all vary have been identified. The Big Five personality traits are five broad dimensions of personality that are used to describe human personality. The Big Five has been preferably used rather than other models because it is able to account for different traits in personality without overlapping. In studies, the Big Five personality traits show consistency and have been found across a wide range of participants of different ages and of different cultures (Schacter, Gilbert, & Wegner, 2011). Personality influences/impacts many aspects of organizational behavior.
For this assignment, use the Internet to find a free online version of the Big Five personality test. Then, using the Argosy University online library resources, research your personality type and gain strong understanding of each of the five dimensions.
Respond to the following:

  • List three dimensions of organizational culture. Then, using the Big Five dimensions of personality, explain how personality in general and your personality type specifically might be used to determine a good organizational culture–personality fit. Provide concrete examples.
  • Using the Big Five dimensions of personality, discuss how personality in general and your personality type specifically might have a bearing on your satisfaction in working when working in either a tall or a flat organizational structure. Discuss both.
  • Examine how personality might be a determining factor in motivation.
  • Personality testing is customary in many industries for selection. Discuss the ethical implications.

Write your initial response in approximately 400–500 words. Apply APA standards to the citation of sources. Use scholarly references to support your work.
