Overview
For this assignment, you will identify a major patient safety issue within your own organization and then develop a plan using evidence-based best practices and technology to improve the safety issue. In this component, you will be demonstrating your competency in Program Outcomes 2, 3, 4, and 6:
Program Outcome 2: Safety and Quality Practices: Incorporate concepts of patient safety, clinical management, and quality improvement to improve patient outcomes.
Program Outcome 3: Nursing Research and Informatics: Incorporate evidence-based practice interventions (such as information systems or patient care technologies) as appropriate for managing the acute and chronic care of patients promoting health across the lifespan.
Program Outcome 4: Policy, Finance, and Regulations: Understand the scope and role of policy, finance, and regulatory environments in relationship to individual and population outcomes.
Program Outcome 6: Organizational and Systems Management: Apply knowledge of organizational behavior, nursing theory, and systems (micro and macro) as appropriate for the scope and role of one’s own practice. Before you begin, examine your organization’s history of safety in a specific area, and how your organization addresses patient safety issues. If possible, consult with a key stakeholder in the organization (such as an administrator) to better understand specific patient safety concerns and how the organization is working to resolve the concerns.
This person should also be able to discuss some of the organizational barriers impacting the patient safety issue. Next, look at the basic concepts, principles, and practices that contribute to organizational quality improvement and patient safety.
Review the literature for best practices and how technology might be used to improve the issue.
Finally, be sure to consider the legal and ethical implications associated with the safety issue; and possible organizational barriers to change.

Three Different Questions
1) Write a paragraph describing how lack of knowledge of the biology of the HIV virus lead to the AIDS epidemic.
2) You have spent the past 10 weeks learning about biology. To show how much you have acquired this quarter, create a list of biology references you recognize in the movie Osmosis Jones.
3) I have observed time and time again that classes with higher levels of participation have higher averages on exams than classes with lower participation levels. I am seeking input from the student perspective as to what motivates students to participate. For your extra credit assignment I am asking you to tell me what things motivate students to participate and what things deter students from participating. There is no minimum length for this assignment. There is no required format. If it is obvious that you put some effort into this, you will be given credit (i.e. don’t send me two sentences and expect credit)

Contemporary psychodynamic psychotherapy, also referred to as psychoanalytic therapy, is rooted in Dr. Sigmund Freud’s proposal that unconscious thought processes, or thoughts and feelings outside of our conscious awareness, are responsible for mental health issues. This therapeutic approach is unique because its goal is to help clients achieve changes in personality and emotional development. Like most therapeutic approaches, however, psychodynamic psychotherapy is not appropriate for every client. In your role as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, you must be able to properly assess clients to determine whether this therapeutic approach would improve their clinical outcomes. Assignment 1: Applying Current Literature to Clinical Practice
Literature in psychotherapy differs from other areas of clinical practice. Generally, there are no clinical trials in psychotherapy because it is often neither appropriate nor ethical to have controls in psychotherapy research. This sometimes makes it more difficult to translate research findings into practice. In your role, however, you must be able to synthesize current literature and apply it to your own clients. For this Assignment, you begin practicing this skill by examining current literature on psychodynamic therapy and considering how it might translate into your own clinical practice. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.
Learning Objectives
Students will:
Evaluate the application of current literature to clinical practice
To prepare:
Review this week’s Learning Resources and reflect on the insights they provide.
Select one of the psychodynamic therapy articles from the Learning Resources to evaluate for this Assignment.

The Assignment
In a 5- to 10-slide PowerPoint presentation, address the following:
Provide an overview of the article you selected.
What population is under consideration?
What was the specific intervention that was used? Is this a new intervention or one that was already used?
What were the author’s claims?
Explain the findings/outcomes of the study in the article. Include whether this will translate into practice with your own clients. If so, how? If not, why?
Explain whether the limitations of the study might impact your ability to use the findings/outcomes presented in the article. Support your position with evidence-based literature. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.
Note: The presentation should be 5–10 slides, not including the title and reference slides. Include presenter notes (no more than ½ page per slide) and use tables and/or diagrams where appropriate. Final Project
In the first two written assignments, you selected one vulnerable population in need of a new program or service in your community. In this project, you will finalize the research that allows you to understand elements that go into designing and launching a community service. The Final Project will be written using a persuasive tone, such that you would be able to present it in order to gain community and organizational support for your program. The Final Project must demonstrate an understanding of the reading assignments, class discussions, as well as your research and application of new knowledge. Your project must contain the following elements:
A description of the vulnerable population and why they need assistance in your community.
A description of the health service needs of the vulnerable population you have chosen to serve with your program.
In order to support the need for the service you propose, cite statistical data obtained from your county health department, state health department, and organizations or agencies who serve the vulnerable population.
A description of your proposed community service or program; include the specific service(s) provided and one continuum of care level (prevention, treatment, or long-term care). Explain how the selected service(s) and the continuum of care will impact the chosen population.
Discuss the social and cultural norms of your vulnerable population and how these play a role in the need for the services offered by your program. Describe how the vulnerable population experiences the health care system. Analyze methods your program can use to overcome social and cultural differences.
Identify two or more community organizations or agencies with which you can partner in order to implement your program. Explain how these organizations can help you implement the services you offer and the continuum of care offered by the potential partnering agencies. Explain which services these organizations will provide to your clientele that are not covered by your program.
Analyze at least four potential funding sources for your program, one of which must be from a state funded agency, one of which must be from a federally funded agency and the remaining two can be not-for-profit or for-profit business sources. Explain what factors must be met in order to receive funding from your sources.
Your final project will demonstrate quantitative literacy, which shows your ability to identify and solve problems. Additionally, you must demonstrate integrative learning, which means you combine your earlier learning from this and other courses, analyze data from multiple perspectives, explore issues to their full extent as is required in the assignment, as well as incorporate your own personal and professional experiences.
Be detailed and convincing in describing the above elements. For your presentation, you may choose between the following formats:

Nursing homework help DISCUSSION-3 Standardized Coding Systems
As a result of the fragmented nature of the health care system, professionals in various specialty areas of medicine have developed their own unique sets of terminology to communicate within that specialty. In the past, limited attention has been given to codifying practices in order for them to be understood and utilized across disciplines or through different information technology systems. The implementation of a federally mandated electronic medical records system, therefore, poses a challenge to nursing professionals and others who must be prepared to utilize standardized codes for the new system. Why are coding standards important for promoting consistent, high-quality care?
According to Rutherford (2008, para. 15), “Improved communication with other nurses, health care professionals, and administrators of the institution in which nurses work is a key benefit of using a standardized nursing language.” In this Discussion you consider the reasoning behind and the value of standardized codification.
To prepare
Review the information in Nursing Informatics: Scope and Standards of Practice. Determine which set of terminologies are appropriate for your specialty or area of expertise.
Reflect on the importance of continuity in terminology and coding systems.
In the article, “Standardized Nursing Language: What Does It Mean for Nursing Practice?” the author recounts a visit to a local hospital to view its implementation of a new coding system. One of the nurses commented to her, “We document our care using standardized nursing languages but we don’t fully understand why we do” (Rutherford, 2008, para. 1). Consider how you would inform this nurse (and others like her) of the importance of standardized nursing terminologies.
Reflect on the value of using a standard language in nursing practice. Consider if standardization can be limited to a specialty area or if one standard language is needed across all nursing practice. Then, identify examples of standardization in your own specialty or area of expertise. Conduct additional research using the Walden Library that supports your thoughts on standardization of nursing terminology.

The assessment tasks requires you to:
1. Identify and discuss two (2) signs or symptoms of clinical deterioration associated with the presenting problem, from chosen case study. This discussion should consider the potential impact of case study data (e.g. pathology results, past medical history) on the health status of the patient in the chosen case.
2. Following on from your presented discussion associated with point one (1), develop a clinical plan of care which identifies:
One (1) priority of clinical care and;
Discuss three (3) nursing interventions that directly address the identified clinical priority. The discussion should refer to relevant clinical assessments. Measurable outcome parameters for each intervention will be discussed to justify the intervention and evaluate its efficacy. Discussion is to be supported with contemporary research.
Research Paper The Research Paper is a ten- to twelve-page paper (excluding title and references pages) that provides the student the opportunity to investigate a specific natural disaster topic, apply graduate-level critical thinking to the presentation of the information, and utilize and synthesize appropriate current research for your selected topic. The Research Paper utilizes professional health care knowledge and skills and applies those proficiencies to the context of quality improvement and risk management by developing a natural disaster strategic plan for community health: Mobilizing For Action Through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) Process. The three-part Strategic Disaster Plan will be developed in Weeks Two, Four, and Six. Review Chapter 3 in the textbook. In this final part, the students will take the strategic issues identified in Part II (Week Four) and formulate goal statements and strategies for addressing issues, resulting in development and adoption of an interrelated set of strategy statements. Lastly, an action plan with an evaluation timeline that identifies outcomes to be reached and what steps would be taken to ensuing adjustments in the strategy plan if needed. The final draft with all three parts will be posted together for a final grade. Writing the Research PaperThe Research Paper:

The research skills needed to complete those assignments.
The course readings, especially from your Critical Thinking in Psychology text.
The ethical aspects of conducting a research project like the one outlined in those assignments.
The summary of your findings from the research you did in the course project. What insights into your specialization topic did you gain from the experience?
The insights you have gained about yourself in the discussions and exchanges with your peers in this course.
The changes you have experienced in your self-image.
Any additional approaches you will need to consider to ensure that you meet the high ethical standards of a professional psychologist.
Consider the following:
Changes in your thinking and behavior. For each of these aspects, analyze the connection between changes in your thinking and the work you have done in this course. Describe specific examples that illustrate the changes, and explain the relationship between your new thinking or behavior and this doctoral program. Identify and cite at least two specific resources you have encountered in this course that have triggered these changes, and explain the connections.
Changes in your approach. Choose a major event earlier in your life. Include the roles of other people who were involved in this event and their relationships with you. Analyze ways in which you might approach that event differently now, considering the new direction that you are taking in your life. Include specific examples of the manner in which you worked with others, and the extent to which you might handle those relationships differently, knowing what you know now. Identify and cite at least two specific resources you have encountered in this course that have triggered your new ideas about approaches.
Changes in your role. How do you expect to assess the value of your doctoral degree? Look ahead 8–10 years into the future and describe the ways in which you expect your life to be different. Explain the connections for any differences that you see as directly related to this course or to the doctoral program. Identify and cite at least one credible career resource that supports your image of the future.
Write about your reflection. Organize your written assignment according to the three questions in the overview: Why I am in this program? What I am trying to become? How I will achieve my goal? Use the insights you have gathered from your analysis of changes in your thinking, behavior, relationships, and plans as evidence to support your answer to each question. Suggestion: Some learners find it easier to write the second and third sections before attempting to complete the first section.
