General Instructions on Case Write-Ups (Chiarella V. U.S.)
1. Your write-up should be 1 to 2 pages, single-spaced, at standard type face (12 or 14 point).
2. It should briefly (in very few sentences) lay out the basic facts of the case. These are usually generally agreed upon by the time it gets to the final appeal stage; i.e., the Supreme Court or a Federal District court.
3. What is much more important is the issue at law – the dispute about what the law means or how it should be interpreted.
4. What was the majority of the court’s decision in the case, and – more importantly – what was the basic reasoning behind this decision?
5. If you are asked to read a dissent in the case, what was the decision and reasoning in the minority?
6. Do you agree or disagree with the court’s decision? Explain why.
7. To avoid even the appearance of plagiarism, references should be clearly connected to the text through parentheses (Smith, 2016) or footnotes. It is not enough to put your references at the end of the paper, with no way to see what text connects with each reference.
8. Direct quotes should be in quotation marks or, if more than one sentence, in an indented paragraph. Material which is a close paraphrase of another work, although not a direct quote, should be referenced and explicitly acknowledged with the expressions like ‘paraphrase,’ ‘in other words,’ ‘to put it another way,’ or something similar.
- A real estate agent hires a handful of local kids to do the landscaping of homes that he is trying to sell. In addition to the general payment, he reimburses them for the cost of gasoline for lawn mowers and other equipment. While mowing a lawn, one of the kids loses control of a lawn mower and it mows down a neighbor’s very expensive collection of lawn gnomes.
- In a hurry to get his apartment complex painted, a homeowner hires three people he meets at the local home improvement store to do the work. Since they are not professional painters, he provides all the equipment and paint needed to do the work. While at the apartment complex, one of them breaks into an apartment, assaulting the resident and stealing a wallet.
- An entrepreneur decides to open up his own car-for-hire business and creates an app allowing anyone to connect with people who need a ride. The passengers pay the entrepreneur, who in turn pays a percentage to the driver. Other than the app, the entrepreneur has no involvement between the driver and the passenger. One night, a driver who is intoxicated picks up a passenger and then gets into an accident, resulting in the passenger being severely injured.
Forward the topic of the health policy paper to faculty at the end of Week One,
Health policy unfolds daily and drives clinical practice in the US. The student will investigate current policies or legislation underway for a specific health-related issue. The Student will develop a scholarly APA formatted paper supported by evidence. The policy paper rubric:
Introduction to population or problem (incidence, prevalence, epidemiology, cost burden etc)
Description of how the policy is intended for a specific population, program or organization
Specific legislators involved in the policy development and dissemination
Identify the role of the APRN in assisting with the policy or refuting the policy – this requires the evidence to support opinion, ideas and/or concepts.
Discuss how the policy influences clinical practice and is used to promote best outcomes
Examine how the policy can be used by the interprofessional team to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for the specific population
Conclusion – summarize findings
APA format – use of primary peer-reviewed references as much as possible

- Determine what case management aspects were utilized in the case.
- Determine what issues were addressed from a counseling perspective.
- Analyze what aspects of case management or counseling you as a human service professional might have utilized differently and justify why.
Support your post with material from the assigned text and one other scholarly source of your choosing. Prompt:
Comic book characters have all kinds of exciting and rare anatomical and physiological features that define their storyline. Apply what you have learned in Hands On Lab: Skeletal System to design your own comic book character (superhero or villain). You do not need to be a comic book expert at all!
You will need to describe changes to the skeletal system (Wolverine and Mr. Glass are not allowed to be copied but may certainly be used for inspiration) on a detailed level that gives your character some benefit. Conversely, you will also need to describe a weakness or cost to the body from this change to the skeletal system.
This is up to you! Have fun with it but base your choices on evidence. If you could enhance one part of our skeletal system to make us superheroes or supervillains, what would it be?
In your posts to your classmates, evaluate their choices. Is there anything you want to borrow from their design to build a better comic book character? Are you able to offer them advice to how their design could be improved? Is there a weakness that they haven’t realized?
Example: I may want to have a character who can easily move through treetops so I would redesign the bones of the upper body. I would discuss this in correct anatomical terms (Ex: femur, proximal) and include details on a cellular level (Ex: osteoblast). I may also look at the skeletal structure of animals, like an orangutan, to help guide me. The weakness may be how the skeleton may now be off balance so mobility would be affected or could be an issue with the joints now being overworked.

- What would be an appropriate plan of care be for Mrs. Adams? How would you prioritize the care plan?
