Consider the turnaround team’s ideas for improving the club’s quality of work and what you would do if you were consulting with OCI.
Review the explanation of the “5-Whys” in the Weekly Briefing for this week. Also review the material on simple gap analysis. Think about how you could use these systems analysis tools to understand OCI’s options.

Assignment

For this Assignment:

  • Use a systems approach to analyze OCI’s performance and develop a case-specific “effect-cause-effect logic” tree diagram using the 5-Whys tool. See the rubric for details on what this diagram should contain. The diagram itself should be one page and can be hand-drawn or drawn with software. Tables are not appropriate; it must be in the form of a diagram.

(Note: you should identify all high-level negative symptoms, then look for associated first-causes, then look for deeper root causes. The shape of your diagram will roughly look like the outline of a tree).

  • Write a summary description of your diagram with specific recommendations for improving the club’s performance that are linked to your diagram analysis. (1 single spaced page).

Stress and Coping

There are many different types of stress and various impacts that stressful situations can have on all areas of our health. Review these possible stress-provoking situations.

  • Sally is a hardworking young professional who was applauded for her work performance and given more responsibility. After a few months there is a rapid decline in her productivity and she is seen withdrawing from work. Sally’s new manager constantly criticizes her for her lack of productivity, which makes her performance worse, and causes her more worry.
  • Nancy is ready to leave the house for work and spills coffee on her clean work clothes. Then, she finds that her car will not start. When she tries to call for help, she realizes her cell phone is disconnected because she did not pay the bill. She starts to cry.
  • Bob found out that one of his best friends just died. The funeral will be held next week.
  • Tom is called at work and told that he needs to pick up his teenage son from school. This is the second time this year that his son has been sent home for fighting. Tom’s boss is not happy that he requests to leave work early.
  • Tracy, a single mother, finds she doesn’t have enough money left to buy food for her children before her next paycheck in two weeks. This is the third time this year she has struggled to put food on the table.

Choose one situation to evaluate and answer the following questions:

  • Does this represent chronic or acute stress?
  • What type of response might the body and brain be experiencing to manage the stressor?
  • What would be the goal for coping with this stress? (eliminate, reduce, tolerate)
  • What type of coping strategy should be implemented—emotion-focused coping or problem-directed coping? How would the individual employ this approach? In other words, using this type of coping strategy, what could he or she do to cope with the stressor? Give 2 examples.
  • Write 2 “coping self-statements” the individual might make in response to this stressor. You will find some examples of coping self-statements in your textbook.
  • What are some of the potential long-term impacts on this individual’s health if he or she does not find a way to cope with this stressor?

Please be sure you address each question, using terms and concepts from your text. A good initial discussion response should be at least 150–250 words in length. In order to earn full credit for participation, you must respond to two or more classmates in a substantive manner before the end of the module.

  1. Create a PowerPoint presentation to illustrate and explain how the core determinants of health are impacting the health of your target population utilizing the picture below. Note that you should briefly review all of the determinants and then choose the ones that impact your target group to talk about in the assignment.  Be sure to review the link information in the classroom on Core Determinants of Health.  You will then use the power point you created as a visual and record your voice, narrating your power point.

You are a recent immigrant who has moved to the United States to attend a U.S. university. Your family has never been to the United States, and you are excited to tell them all about it, in particular the fundamentals of the U.S. government you are learning about in one of your courses.
Compose a 3-page letter to your family in which you outline the fundamentals of the U.S. government. Be sure to include the following:
A brief explanation of the Constitution and its purpose.
A brief explanation of two American ideals (e.g., democracy, liberty, equality, justice, freedom, or opportunity). This should include a definition and your understanding of what those ideals mean to the average U.S. citizen.
A current event (from the last 6 months) that serves as an example of one of the two ideals you chose to explain. This will be the current event you selected in the Searching for Current Events About American Ideals activity in Week 4.
A constitutional liberty that has benefitted/affected you as a student or a citizen in the United States. For example, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a federal law that prohibits employers from discriminating against employees on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin, and religion. Title VII also applies to private and public colleges and universities, employment agencies, and labor organizations. So if you chose this one, in your letter you would identify this constitutional liberty and how it applies to you specifically.
At least one quality reference cited using the Strayer Writing Standards. This should be the current event article you selected in the activity in Week 4.

Set up a MS Word document to include both of the following steps:
Step 1:
You will research information about an ethical issue and an emerging technology.
• Find at least three (3) sites that identify and describe the ethical issue that you want to research• Enter these into a Word document• Find at least three (3) sites that identify an emerging technology of your choosing• Enter these into the Word document as well• NOTE: Your chosen ethical issue and your chosen emerging technology must be related in some way• For instance, if social media is your emerging technology, then choose an issue that is ethically related to that  emergingtechnology• Keep all (6) URLs in the Word document.▪ NOTE: URL means address of a Web page
Step 2:
Create a bibliography (reference page) using the Word references feature.
Include each of your sources. Use the resources available on the GCF LearnFree website  on “How to create a bibliography or works cited page in Word.
Once you’ve been through the above site,
•  •  ▪  ▪ For each of your 6 URLs (from Step 1), create a source through MS Word’s Citations and Bibliography section ▪ Have MS Word generate your Bibliography or Works Cited table to include APA-style information on your 6 sources▪ Enter your Bibliography or Works Cited table into the Word document

Assignment 2
Functional Assessment
***Don’t freak out at the amount of reading – I’m
just outlining a case for you here. Your answers
will actually take very little time. 
Breathe….breathing is good. I’ve highlighted the
actual questions in yellow.
Background
Joey is a seven year old boy with global developmental delays in a combination kindergarten/daycare
program. His teachers have called you in because he has begun to exhibit some disruptive behaviours in the
center and they need your help to figure them out. You agree to conduct a functional assessment.
A. Indirect Assessment:
Interview with Staff
Who is present? Other children, but I would say mostly other boys, and a variety of teachers. We
haven’t noticed that it is more or less likely to happen with one teacher.
Where does the behaviour occur? In the block room, up until yesterday, then it happened in the art room.
When does the behaviour occur? Only during free play time. Sometimes we’ve noticed that Joey is trying to get
the attention of the other boys and they are ignoring him, sometimes we’ve noticed
that the children are busy playing and the room is really quiet, not much action going
on, and sometimes one of Joey’s block structures has fallen over and he seems
frustrated.
Do any other behaviours occur just before? Other than him running to the shelf, we haven’t observed any other
behaviours.
Is there any time when the behaviour doesn’t occur? If Joey is involved in playing with a teacher or another
child, it tends not to happen…although once or twice it still did when his structure fell
over.
Can you specifically describe the behaviour for me? Joey runs to the right side of the block shelf, inserts his right
arm up to his elbow, so that his hand is touching the back of the shelf, and he runs along
the shelf pushing hundreds of blocks to the floor while yelling and laughing.
What happens immediately following this behaviour? A staff member immediately approaches him and tells
him that it isn’t okay to knock all the blocks off the shelf and now he has to pick them all
up. Then he is instructed, with the staff helping, to start stacking the blocks back on the
shelf. Thankfully, the other children join in as well, so the job gets done more quickly.
Does he ever get removed from the situation? Oh no, we believe it is important for him to fix what he has
dismantled.
***Question One: Come up with a plausible hypothesis for Joey’s shelf-clearing behaviour. Remember to list all
likely antecedents, behaviours and consequences.
B: Direct Observations: Here are a number of incidences recorded during direct observation
 Obs 1: Joey asked Daniel to play, Daniel said no, he wanted to play by himself. Joey ran over to the shelf
and cleared all of the blocks off, quietly finishing then sitting down. There were no teachers present, but
Daniel came over, told Joey he had to pick them up and Daniel and Joey cleaned up the blocks together.
 Obs 2: Joey playing with Daniel and Justin. Justin laughed and knocked the structure over. Joey yelled at
Justin, then ran to the shelf, yelling and clearing the blocks off. Mary, the teacher, ran in, told Joey he’d
have to clean up, and so Justin, Daniel, Mary and Joey cleaned up the blocks.
 Obs 3: Joey playing by himself in the blockroom, with teacher Mary present. Joey’s block tower fell over,
but he just shrugged and began building it again.
 Obs 4: Daniel using a block that Joey wants for his structure, Daniel said no when Joey was prompted by
Mary to ask for it. Joey ran to shelf and silently cleared all the blocks from the shelf. Mary told Joey he’d
have to clean them up, and Daniel, Joey and Mary cleaned the blocks up.
 Obs 5: Justin, Eric and Sam in room with Joey. Joey kept putting a block where the others didn’t want it,
so they kicked him out of the game. Joey went over to the block shelf, but just selected some other
blocks and began building them himself.
*Question Two: Using an ABC checklist, record the data for the five observations above. Remember to add in any
new antecedents and consequences that come up.
Obs 1 Obs 2 Obs 3 Obs 4 Obs 5
Antecedents
Behaviours
Consequences
*Question Three: Does the data from the direct observation match the information received from the indirect
assessment? What is your next step?
*Question Four: What kind of treatment might make sense, given the data? Give a brief outline of what you
might try and why it might work.

Discussion: Professional Nursing and State-Level Regulations

Boards of Nursing (BONs) exist in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands. Similar entities may also exist for different regions. The mission of BONs is the protection of the public through the regulation of nursing practice. BONs put into practice state/region regulations for nurses that, among other things, lay out the requirements for licensure and define the scope of nursing practice in that state/region.

It can be a valuable exercise to compare regulations among various state/regional boards of nursing. Doing so can help share insights that could be useful should there be future changes in a state/region. In addition, nurses may find the need to be licensed in multiple states or regions.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on the mission of state/regional boards of nursing as the protection of the public through the regulation of nursing practice.
  • Consider how key regulations may impact nursing practice.
  • Review key regulations for nursing practice of your state’s/region’s board of nursing and those of at least one other state/region and select at least two APRN regulations to focus on for this Discussion..

Post a comparison of at least two APRN board of nursing regulations in your state/region with those of at least one other state/region. Describe how they may differ. Be specific and provide examples. Then, explain how the regulations you selected may apply to Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) who have legal authority to practice within the full scope of their education and experience. Provide at least one example of how APRNs may adhere to the two regulations you selected.
