Chronic asthma and acute asthma exacerbation are respiratory disorders that affect children and adults. Advanced practice nurses often assist physicians in providing treatment to patients with these disorders. Sometimes, patients require immediate treatment, making it is essential to recognize and distinguish minor asthma symptoms from serious, life-threatening symptoms. Since symptoms and attacks are often induced by a trigger, nurses must also help patients identify their triggers and recommend appropriate management options. Like many other disorders, there are various approaches to treating and managing care for asthmatic patients. Some approaches work better than others, depending on individual patient factors. One method that supports the clinical decision making of drug therapy plans for asthmatic patients is the stepwise approach, which you explore in this Assignment.

To prepare:

  • Review “Asthma” in Chapter 27 of the Huether and McCance text. Identify the pathophysiological mechanisms of chronic asthma and acute asthma exacerbation. Consider how these disorders are similar and different.
  • Consider drugs used to treat asthmatic patients, including long-term control and quick relief treatment options for patients.
  • Think about the impact these drugs might have on patients, including adults and children.
  • Review Chapter 25 of the Arcangelo text. Reflect on using the stepwise approach to asthma treatment and management. Consider how stepwise management assists health care providers and patients in gaining and maintaining control of the disease.
  • Think about how to educate patients to develop a plan for medication adherence. Consider how the plan might differ based on the patient’s age.
By Day 7

Write a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:

  • Describe the pathophysiological mechanisms of chronic asthma and acute asthma exacerbation. Then, explain the changes in the arterial blood-gas patterns during an exacerbation.
  • Describe long-term control and quick-relief drugs used to treat asthma in patients.
  • Explain the impact these drugs might have on adults and children.
  • Explain the stepwise approach to asthma treatment and management and how this approach assists health care providers and patients in gaining and maintaining control of the disease.
  • Explain how you would help patients develop a plan for medication adherence, including how the plan might differ based on the patient’s age.

Reminder: The School of Nursing requires that all papers submitted include a title page, introduction, summary, and references. The Sample Paper provided at the Walden Writing Center provides an example of those required elements (available at http://writingcenter.waldenu.edu/57.htm). All papers submitted must use this formatting.

Purpose

In your professional life and work, you will find the need to research and learn what you can about certain topics so that you can educate others. This is particularly true when there is a problem to be solved, and you have to make recommendation(s) to others. Key executives appreciate a summary called an SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation), where you will describe the situation (problem), provide background information about the situation, state your assessment of the matter and potential solutions, and then recommend which solution(s) you suggest using to resolve the issue. The SBAR is the tool considered to be industry best practice for standardized communication. Thought brevity is a key component for an executive-level SBAR the goal of this assignment is for you communicate your thought process and understanding of the issues an HIT professional should consider when encountered with analyzing a merger/acquisition scenario (something which is becoming more and more common in the healthcare industry).

Instructions

Building upon the input you gave in Week 3 regarding whether the two merging organizations should consolidate their disparate EHR systems, let’s assume that the organization you are merging with has an Electronic Health Record (EHR) that is not certified through the ONC Health IT Certification Program.
Prepare an SBAR (outline the Situation, give some Background, and then give your Assessment and Recommendation) with this new twist. Which EHR would you recommend the two organizations use? Why? Be sure to support your recommendation including why it is important to have certified healthcare technology, or why not. Some other things to consider in your assessment include:

  • What workflows and process can be the most problematic when two organization merge? How might this impact which EHR is used?
  • Which HIT standards and regulations are critical to consider as part of the process?
  • How do you recommend mitigating risks to these issues/risked you identified?

Lastly, make sure to support your arguments/statements with references to credible resources. Use APA citations.

Resources

Respond to the following in a minimum of 250 words:

  • Review the article, “Personal Electronic Devices in the Workplace” Balancing Interests in a BYOD World.” Discuss the reasons why companies should or should not consider a BYOD program. Consider issues of security and privacy in your discussion. How does Covid 19 and the reality of working at home impact BYOD especially if you are using your home computer as your work computer? Should your employer place blockers on you home computers to make sure that you are working and not zooming with friends or helping your children with their on-line classes?

Task: Students will select a nonprofit organization of their choice, and use available resources (including tax forms) to evaluate existing funding sources. Based on this information, students will develop a list of 3 additional potential funders including their name, what they fund, the range of funds, the grant cycle, and how they are connected to the selected nonprofit. *Note: you can select grants from an organization that has already funded your selected nonprofit, but the specific grant has to be for a different project (can’t be a re-application for a grant that was already awarded to them before).

Ethical Dilemma Brief

Introduction

Health care administrators are confronted with ethical dilemmas and difficult decision making during their work. As we have already discovered, there are important interactions between ethical behaviors and legal issues. Health care administrators need to understand the relationships as well as the distinct differences. Health care institutions have ethics committees that play a central role in the protection of patient’s rights, the organization as a whole, and its staff.

Instructions

Imagine you work as a professional health care administrator in a large medical center. You have been asked to present a paper at a professional conference on medical ethics and caregiver-patient encounters. You must write a paper about a significant physician-patient ethical dilemma in a medical setting, defending the decision and conclusions made.
Below is a resource with multiple ethical case studies that involved patients, their families, and members of the interdisciplinary team. Choose one of the scenarios on this site, or select a case of your own choosing from another resource.

Question Description

INSTRUCTION:Write a paper of a minimum of 12 pages in length, excluding title page, abstract, and references. The paper must be constructed according to APA format (APA, 2010). Headings are to be included (see below). See Rubric for point allocation & sample.

Review of the Research Literature: This section includes a review of the 5 articles relating the patient problem to an IOM/QSEN competency. (ie related to the purpose statement /research question, and to substantiate the significance of the patient problem )

Case Example: The case example must exemplify the problem statement/research question and be related to the identified IOM/QSEN competency. The case example should describe the patient condition, disease(s), clinical issues, medications, nursing care, etc.

Transition Theory (Im, 2006): frames the Capstone paper, and incorporating this theory is a required component of the paper. The following question(s) must be addressed when incorporating Transition Theory (Im, 2006):

a) What transition(s) is the patient in?

b) What are the facilitator’s and inhibitors?

c) What is or was the patient’s response?

d) What was the nursing intervention?

Conclusion: Integrate nursing implications from your literature review and relate them to your patient’s problem. Include nursing implications in these three areas:

(a) Practice: What is the best nursing practice for this issue?

(b) Education: What are the current guidelines for educating nurses, patients/families about care for this problem?

© Research: What are the priorities for further study (from a nursing perspective) related to this problem?

FYI: Attached is the sample of a nursing capstone paper, and the last 2 articles the QSEN and the IOM/ transition articles

  1. First, your proposal should identify the community you are targeting. One way to find a community is to use information gathered from the 2010 Census that presents a profile of a community (https://data.census.gov/cedsci/?q=United%20States) For example, use the demographic profile of your community to justify the need for a domestic violence awareness project. The Census is only intended to help narrow down a community.
  2. Once you identify a community, identify the type of domestic violence (e.g. elder abuse, bullying, child abuse, stalking, etc.) you will address in your project. For example, if your community is the aging veteran population (between the ages of 65 to 75) in the East Coast who live in a nursing home, the type of domestic violence you might be interested in is elderly abuse with a specialization in financial abuse.
  3. Once you complete Step 1 and Step 2, you will identify a specific activity, event, or “deliverable” (brochure, pamphlet, handbook, poster, presentation, writing and performing a song using online media, etc.) that will promote awareness of domestic violence and advocate for its victims. Be creative!  You will be creating this so make sure it is a feasible endeavor. For example, if your community is the female adolescent group (between the ages of 16 to 19) in NYC school system, the  type of domestic violence you might be interested in is child abuse and a specific activity can be creating a Facebook page that promotes awareness, resources, and advocacy.

……. I am also fine with Bullying.
