FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT, YOU WILL PLAY THE ROLE OF A CHIEF NURSING OFFICER COMMUNICATING

For this assignment, you will play the role of a chief nursing officer communicating a recent change in healthcare law, policy, or regulatory requirement.
Write a 350- to 525-word memo to a specific target audience at your organization. Your memo should include:
Target audience of the memo

Use the following Case Scenario, Subjective Data, and Objective Data to answer the Critical Thinking Questions.
Case Scenario
Mrs. J. is a 63-year-old woman who has a history of hypertension, chronic heart failure, and sleep apnea. She has been smoking two packs of cigarettes a day for 40 years and has refused to quit. Three days ago, she had an onset of flu with fever, pharyngitis, and malaise. She has not taken her antihypertensive medications or her medications to control her heart failure for 4 days. Today, she has been admitted to the hospital ICU with acute decompensated heart failure.
Subjective Data
1. Is very anxious and asks whether she is going to die.
2. Denies pain but says she feels like she cannot get enough air.
3. Says her heart feels like it is “running away.”
4. Reports that she is so exhausted she cannot eat or drink by herself.
Objective Data
1. Height 175 cm; Weight 95.5 kg
2. Vital signs: T 37.6 C, HR 118 and irregular, RR 34, BP 90/58
3. Cardiovascular: Distant S1, S2, S3 present; PMI at sixth ICS and faint; all peripheral pulses are 1+; bilateral jugular vein distention; initial cardiac monitoring indicates a ventricular rate of 132 and atrial fibrillation
4. Respiratory: Pulmonary crackles; decreased breath sounds right lower lobe; coughing frothy blood-tinged sputum; SpO2 82%
5. Gastrointestinal: BS present: hepatomegaly 4 cm below costal margin
Critical Thinking Questions
What nursing interventions are appropriate for Mrs. J. at the time of her admission? Drug therapy is started for Mrs. J. to control her symptoms. What is the rationale for the administration of each of the following medications?
1. IV furosemide (Lasix)
2. Enalapril (Vasotec)
3. Metoprolol (Lopressor)
4. IV morphine sulphate (Morphine)
Describe four cardiovascular conditions that may lead to heart failure and what can be done in the form of medical/nursing interventions to prevent the development of heart failure in each condition.
Taking into consideration the fact that most mature adults take at least six prescription medications, discuss four nursing interventions that can help prevent problems caused by multiple drug interactions in older patients. Provide rationale for each of the interventions you recommend.

Professional Development: Learning In The Workplace

Prior to beginning this discussion, read the following required articles:

  • “Organizational Learning in Target Setting”
  • “Organizational Learning and Learning Organizations: An Integrative Framework”
  • “Improving Organizational Learning Through Leadership Training”
  • “Systematic Professional Development Training and Its Impact on Teachers’ Attitudes Toward ELLs: SIOP and Guided Coaching”
  • “Review of Organizational Resilience: How Learning Sustains Organizations in Crisis, Disaster, and Breakdowns”

For this discussion, you will be focusing on your self-development and your learning experiences in the context of the workplace. In your initial post, apply basic research methods and the alignment of content within research to the questions below by making connections between your personal experiences and the content from the readings. You might also utilize other peer-reviewed articles of interest to you to support your assertions and conclusions. Analyze how your personal development in the learning and cognition domains have matured and developed through your formative years and work experiences. Your writing should not simply answer each question; a fully developed personal analysis of your own growth and learning processes should be concise and well organized in a manner that exhibits your improved writing ability and reflects APA style format.
In addition to answering the questions below, include an introduction and conclusion to your post.

  • What types of training and education have you received in the workplace?
  • What do you do now that differs from your past educational learning experiences?
  • How have your life experiences affected your learning?
  • Have events in your life influenced your beliefs and how you assert yourself in the learning process?
  • How do you see yourself as a life-long learner?

Next, consider how organizational learning and culture affect you personally and apply skeptical inquiry to the resolution of problems related to your own learning and cognition. How might you adjust your current strategies? Finally, apply ethical principles and professional standards of learning and cognition psychology that you have learned about to teaching or counseling others in the workplace. What implications should you consider when working with others?
This discussion should be approximately 500 words in length and should establish your understanding of the content, apply appropriate methods of ethical practices, and exhibit appropriate scaffolding of personal experience to the week’s content

Unit 1 Assignment 1 (U1A1)
(Individual)
“Finding Balance”
Week 1
100 points
Introduce yourself to your classmates and to me.  Write using first person, such as—Hello class, my name is ME, and I want to tell you a little bit about myself and why I am interested in healthcare administration…
Within the context of your intro, share your perspective on the importance of “finding balance” between the roles of healthcare delivery providers, such as nurses and assorted clinicians in a hospital environment next to the business/financial component that drives variables such as costs, length of stay, discharge protocols, admit/surgical denials, and any others.  Further consider that there is (or should be) a synergy among/between patient care providers and bean counters, yet it requires money to keep the beds open and salaries paid—just as it takes the care provided by trained professionals on the units.  How effective is writing “policy” on matters such as these?
This first assignment should be at least two pages in length, double spaced, 12 points font, and the title page is not part of the page count.  If you cite, be sure to include your sources within the essay, and at the end in a separate Reference List.  However, because this assignment is more of an opportunity to opine, sources are not mandatory.

THE MCGILL MODEL OF NURSING IS A THEORY THAT LOOKS AT THE PATIENT AS A WHOLE PERSON AND NOT JUST THROUGH THE EYES OF DISEASE AND SICKNESS.

The McGill Model of Nursing is a theory that looks at the patient as a whole person and not just through the eyes of disease and sickness. This theory helps identify the patient with loving family members involved in the care as an individual person and as a person with desires and goals in life (Wright & Gross 2012).A study conducted on the end of life care on patients using the McGill Model focused the study on family members of dying patients and how the transition from palliative to hospice care affected them.Furthermore the study revealed the APNs transition with the family from having hope of saving the patient to finding peace in the dying patient (Wright & Gross 2012). The APN walks through this transition with the patient and family constantly observing the needs of the patient and family while making sure all the medical needs are meant as well. The Gestalt Theory is based on a persons perception of a situation or event. This theory focuses on an event that people experience together but how differently each person can perceive the event (Butts & Rich 2013 p 210).People tend to filter what they see and experience differently from one another much like when a family goes through the death of a loved one. Each family member shows different emotions or has different perspectives for example one person may be angry and resentful of the situation while another might be the one at peace with it (Shaha et el. 2011).Even though these two theories are unrelated they both can be utilized by the APN. The McGill Model looks at the patient and the family members involved in patients care as if they are all the same whereas the Gestalt Theory focuses on individuals perception of the same situation but appreciates the different views of each person. These theories demonstrate a holistic approach on caring for the patient and can provide more meaningful care when combined.(Butts J.
