WORKING ON PROJECT

There are three options this week for your initial post ‘Working on Projects’. All three ask a similar question but in a slightly different way. Feel free to respond to the question/topic in whatever variation your prefer. This week’s discussion brings together this week’s readings on change management, project management and leadership, as well as content from previous weeks on team work and collaboration. The intention is to reflect on your own experience within the context of these ideas.

Incidentally, these are very common interview questions, so considering and developing your personal response is excellent preparation.

1. What types of projects do you not want/like to work on? Why?

2. What types of projects interest you most? Why?

3. Have you ever worked on a project that failed (or nearly failed)? Describe the situation, process and outcome. Did it fail (or nearly fail) because of lack of project management, change management or leadership preparation?

TASK INSTRUCTIONS:

You will need to describe the issues in your case study, and then undertake a process of analysis in order to generate a comprehensive nursing plan of care. Practising this process of analysis will help you to feel more confident in providing nursing care to an older person in the clinical setting.

Your case study must:

  1. Reflect      upon the impact that various stereotypes of older people may      have on the older person and their nursing care;
  2. Recommend the nursing requirements      for older people diagnosed with, or at risk of, complex health conditions      and/or cognitive decline; and
  3. Evaluate      the outcomes for nursing care of older people.

Answer each question with not less than 600 words in response to the specific question provided. Include at least 2 in-text citations and references or government publications in each initial thread. All citations must be consistent with AMA formatting style.

Question #1: A Better Inspection

Fighting disease is an ongoing process. Sanitation inspections are a fundamental part of that fight. In the past a sanitation inspection aimed to identify and cite violations of rules and regulations. The current emphasis is to educate.

· How do the two approaches differ in the ability to solve sanitation problems?

· What advantage does education offer?

· How does this policy shift affect our ability to alter risks?

Question #2: Strategic Application of Resources

In public health resources are limited. The available monies and personnel need to be deployed strategically to have the greatest impact for the protection of the public. In your opinion, what are the most critical points in the food distribution network to prevent illness? Justify your answer.

Question #3: Creative Application of Laboratory Science

The laboratory plays an important role in the investigation and identification of the cause of food borne illness outbreaks. The lab can be a much more important, and less celebrated, tool to prevent an outbreak of disease.

· Which steps of the food processing and distribution systems are of the most value in evaluating the risks?

· How can this information be incorporated into safety inspections to improve the integrity of the system?

· How can the use of laboratory data as a preventive measure help enhance the investigation of disease outbreaks?

Question #4: Building Capacity

A couple manages their own small scale food production and distribution system. Their success comes from delivering a high quality product with low risk of contamination. Assume that they are now in a position to expand their operation from a local enterprise to a nationwide business. As they do, more of their time will be spent in the negotiation and managerial components of the business and they must, therefore, hire a workforce to handle the actual production, packaging and distribution of the product in order to build capacity. Outline a sanitation training program for the couple using the most recent regulations on food safety.

Assignment Content

  1.     Throughout the past few weeks, you have learned about the type of leader you’d like to be and how you can use your leadership skills in project management. This week’s reading discussed Kotter’s eight-step model of planned organization, appreciative inquiry, and the psychological and emotional processes involved in successful change. Leading an IT project will require you to use all of these skills when working with stakeholders. One of the most important project tasks is to present the scoping information to the stakeholders.
For this assignment, you will revise your team’s project plan to present to stakeholders. Access your team’s draft of the Project Plan Template from the Wk 3 Team – Apply: Project Scope, Budget, and Timeline Stakeholder Meeting Role Play assignment, and re-save it so you can work on it individually.
Using information from the previous weeks’ assignments and instructor feedback, revise the Project Plan Template. Your new project plan should include the following revisions and additions:

    • A summary of the project in Section 1: Summary
    • An individual revision of the timeline from the Wk 3 Team – Apply: Project Scope, Budget, and Timeline Stakeholder Meeting Role Play assignment in Section 3: Schedule – Milestones
    • A list of stakeholders (refer to the Wk 3 – Apply: Project Management Flowchart and Summary assignment document) in Section 4: Resources
    • An analysis of impact of change that should occur based on the risk assessment in Section 6: Change Management
    • An explanation and justification for the changes made in your revision of your group’s decisions in an Appendix section
    • Cite two sources other than Intuit, Inc. company documents.
Format your citations according to APA guidelines.
      Submit your assignment.

Preparing for the Informational Interview

Begin to prepare for this informational interview by identifying the professional you plan to interview. Ideally, the professional should be engaged in a career that you hope to pursue. (You may want to identify a second candidate in case your initial choice is unable to complete the interview with you.) This professional may work in your local area, but that is not necessary. If you cannot identify a professional easily, ask your friends and family if they know anyone who works in the field of psychology. You may also want to phone your local community mental health center or social services agency to ask for names and contact information of potential professionals you could interview. Contact your facilitator for guidance if you have difficulty in identifying someone.

Tasks
In a 1- to 2-page Microsoft Word document, address the following:

Provide the following identifying information about the individual you have selected:

The name
The job title (licensed psychologist, social worker, or case manager)
The level of education (a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree)
A description of job responsibilities or day-to-day tasks
The type of license, if applicable
The state of residence and practice
The e-mail address or phone number

Develop a list of at least fifteen questions to ask in your informational interview. Research possible questions to include using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet. Refer to the Job Resources document to conduct an Internet search using the search terms “informational interview questions” in order to find suggested questions. Be sure to put them into your own words for the purpose of this assignment and to give credit to your source by using in-text citations and a reference list in APA format.
Ask the interviewee about his or her work, academic preparation, and advice. In addition, include the interviewee’s answers to questions on the following topics:

The experience, skills, and knowledge necessary for success in a career in psychology or in graduate school
Relevant professional organizations
His or her views on professional ethics and academic integrity
The role of psychological research in his or her work
His or her greatest challenges and rewards
His or her reasons for choosing the field

Develop a script (word-for-word written statement) that you will use during the warm-up (meet-and-greet) portion of the interview. What will you say to the interviewee when you meet him or her? What will you do? For example, will you shake the person’s hand and introduce yourself? Include small talk of a professional nature that will serve as an introduction and explanation of the purpose of the interview. Demonstrate in your script your ability to interact professionally and effectively in a professional environment.
This assignment is preparatory work for the interview to be conducted later in this course. Do not conduct the interview for this assignment.

I believe that information derived from the interview will be an eye-opener in encouraging me to excel as a future professional mental health counselor. Besides, I am motivated to play a part in alleviating the rising problem of increasing population of mentally challenged people in my society, considering that I also lost close relative due to such state of health (Donaldson et al., 2014).
Questions
Some of the fifteen questions I had drafted before-hand for the interview with Mr. Brooks in understanding the profession seek to inquire about:
1. Why did you choose the profession and what did you like in the profession?
2. Some of your challenging encounters as a BHS specialist?
3. Some of the memorable experience during your career?
4. What number of cases have you intervened and how many do you handle daily?
5. Which is the most intriguing case you have ever handled?

14. What other areas of majors are available for students pursuing this field?
15. What is your general take about the profession, and what is your advice to any student seeking to join the profession?
Interview Script
In commencing the interview, it is essential that the formalities of engagement be prioritized to facilitate a smooth discussion. Therefore, in my discussion, it will be important that I introduce myself with civility by first gesturing for the greeting (along with the hallway or pavement) before introducing myself and my purpose for visit. However, if in the office I would knock before proceeding with the introduction formalities. After which, I will ask for the interviewee consent to have a face-to-face interview, including other acknowledgments of how I seek to achieve the interview purpose (Crosby, 2014).
For example, “greeting Madam? My name is XXX, a final year student at Argosy University pursuing my degree as a social worker. We did communicate a week ago where you booked me an appoint today.” If she consents me to take a sit I will then proceed with the purpose of my invite. “I am glad to have joined you today and hoping to benefit much from your insights about life as a licensed professional social worker in the field”. Also, the interviewer must acknowledge the interviewee for his participation in the interview both through formal acknowledgement and a thank you note. For example, “thank you ones again for your time and patience, I am very grateful to be in your presence and for sharing in detail. I look forward to meet you again in future, all the best in your career and bye.” Generally, it is important to conduct self diligently to enhance the cordial relationship and atmosphere important to encouraging a good interaction platform (Crosby, 2014). Also, it is essential that the interviewer asks for permission all the time when seeking to include other instruments for the interview, or when seeking clarity. Good communication etiquette is paramount to the success of an interview process (Crosby, 2014).

Nursing Research Poster Presentation

Using a nursing research study assigned by the course instructor, create a poster presentation reflecting a synopsis of the study.  Presentation should summarize the introduction, background or literature review, methods, results, & conclusion of the assigned journal article.  Please note this is not an exercise in cutting & pasting.  Paraphrase content to reflect individual understanding of research study content.  Refer to the poster presentation tutorial provided in the Blackboard Course Content section for guidance. All posters shall be uploaded to the discussion board.

How to Create a Research Poster: Poster Basics

Posters are widely used in the academic community, and most conferences include poster presentations in their program.  Research posters summarize information or research concisely and attractively to help publicize it and generate discussion.  The poster is usually a mixture of a brief text mixed with tables, graphs, pictures, and other presentation formats.  PowerPoint is a popular and easy-to-use software platform to make a poster.  It is part Microsoft Office.

What makes a good poster? • Important information should be readable from about 10 feet away • Title is short and draws interest • Word count of 800 words or less • Text is clear and to the point • Use of bullets, numbering, and headlines make it easy to read • Effective use of graphics, color and fonts • Consistent and clean layout • Includes acknowledgments, your name and institutional affiliation

Poster Design Tips

• Use large text (your text should be at least 18-24 pt; headings 30-60 pt; title >72pt.) • Do not use more than 2-3 font styles total • Use fonts that are easy to read (such as Times New Roman, and Arial) • Avoid jagged edges: left-justify text within text boxes or fully justify blocks of text • Avoid too much text (no more than 800 words max) and undefined technical jargon • Choose colors carefully and pay attention to contrast.  If in doubt, dark print on light background is best. Remember – some colorblind people cannot distinguish between red and green. • Organize and align your content with columns, sections, headings, and blocks of text • White space is important to increase visual appeal and readability (this is the “empty” space between sections, columns, headings, blocks of text, and graphics). • Selectively incorporate charts, graphs, photographs, and key quotations from primary sources, maps, and other graphics that support the theme of your poster.  It is best to avoid using tables of data. • Avoid fuzzy images; make sure all graphics are high-resolution (at least 300ppi) and easily visible • Edit your poster carefully for typographic or grammatical mistakes and image quality before the final print-out (use the print-preview function)

Poster Review Checklist

• Does poster have enough white space? • Are the text and graphics legible? • Are the text and graphics consistent? • Is the flow of information logical? • Are the following identified: research question, methods, take-home message or conclusion? • Are the proper acknowledgments provided?

Write a paper of approximately 350-700 words in which you identify human resource management’s role in the health care industry. Describe the functional roles of the human resource department (as outlined in the rubric below) based on your textbook and Electronic Reserve Readings.

Include a minimum of two references. Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines. Introduction and development of paper including conclusion

Logical development of the following: Overview of HR management’s role in the healthcare industry:

Staffing, Recruitment and Retention Training and Development Employee Relations/Performance Management/Regulatory Compliance Safety and Health Compensation and Benefits

Appropriate research – minimum of 2 and adequate supporting documentation (references cited throughout body of paper)

Q2

SA 515: Health Care Policy, Law And Ethics

From the scenario, evaluate the efficacy of both the documentation protocols requiring patient consent by physicians and the legal reporting requirements, as they apply to protecting patients’ rights. Examine the primary way in which such documentation could help both physician and patient in the event of litigation.

Analyze the major professional roles that physicians and nurses play, as they apply to following the requirement for obtaining patient consent. Examine the process whereby health care professionals can legitimately challenge patients’ rights to refuse treatment, based on the condition of verbal, written, or implied consent.

The purpose of this discussion is to give you the opportunity to apply ethical theories to the complex issue of ageism in the workplace, particularly in the area of employment. In the modern workplace, there appear to be the following three key issues that exhibit ageism in employment, some of which have been exacerbated by recent economic issues and an aging population.

  • Older job seekers fight ageism as a barrier to re-employment.
  • Younger job seekers have trouble obtaining career entry.
  • Evidence in many countries highlights that older worker employment and youth employment are not connected in any way.

Prepare and post a response to the following prompt:

  • Using at least one ethical perspective or theory from the text and one item of scholarly evidence, present an argument to a group of younger workers (regarding older worker and youth employment) in which you refute the notion that older workers take employment from the young.

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from the required resources and/or other scholarly sources, and properly cite any references in APA Style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center resources Introduction to APA (Links to an external site.) and Integrating Research (Links to an external site.).
Guided Response: Be aware that the themes in this discussion are based on what is generally known in economics as the “lump of labor fallacy.” This perspective challenges the view that if older workers are employed in a tight labor market, then they must be occupying the jobs of the country’s youth. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7.

GUIDELINES FOR ANALYZING A CASE STUDY

A case study analysis requires you to investigate a business problem, examine the alternative solutions, and propose the most effective solution using supportive evidences.
Before you analyze the case, follow the following guidelines to help you understand the case:
1. Read the case thoroughly more than once
2. Take notes
3. Highlight relevant facts
4. Underline key problems
5. Think of possible solutions for the problems. Imagine that you are the consultant of the company and you need to offer solutions for the problems the company faces.
6. Select the best solution.

Some issues of the case mainly belong to the material given in a certain chapter of the textbook but also it could be that some issues are related to other chapters you have studied. Moreover, use your knowledge of other business subjects like Marketing, Finance, Economics, IT and so on, when answering the questions of the case.

Question 1
The attached file contains hypothetical data for working this problem. Goodman Corporation’s and Landry Incorporated’s stock prices and dividends, along with the Market Index, are shown in the file. Stock prices are reported for December 31 of each year, and dividends reflect those paid during the year. The market data are adjusted to include dividends.

  1. Use the data given to calculate annual returns for Goodman, Landry, and the Market Index, and then calculate average returns over the five-year period.  (Hint: Remember, returns are calculated by subtracting the beginning price from the ending price to get the capital gain or loss, adding the dividend to the capital gain or loss, and dividing the result by the beginning price. Assume that dividends are already included in the index.   Also, you cannot calculate the rate of return for 2015 because you do not have 2014 data.)
  2. Calculate the standard deviation of the returns for Goodman, Landry, and the Market Index.  (Hint:  Use the sample standard deviation formula given in the chapter, which corresponds to the STDEV function in Excel.)
  3. On a stand-alone basis which corporation is the least risky?
  4. Construct a scatter diagram graph that shows Goodman’s and Landry’ returns on the vertical axis and the Market Index’s returns on the horizontal axis.
  5. Estimate Goodman’s and Landry’s betas as the slopes of regression lines with stock returns on the vertical axis (y-axis) and market return on the horizontal axis (x-axis).  (Hint: use Excel’s SLOPE function.)  Are these betas consistent with your graph?
  6. The risk-free rate on long-term Treasury bonds is 8.04%.  Assume that the market risk premium is 6%.  What is the expected return on the market?  Now use the SML equation to calculate the two companies’ required returns.
  7. If you formed a portfolio that consisted of 60% Goodman stock and 40% Landry stock, what would be its beta and its required return?
  8. Suppose an investor wants to include Goodman Industries’ stock in his or her portfolio.  Stocks A, B, and C are currently in the portfolio, and their betas are 0.769, 0.985, and 1.423, respectively.  Calculate the new portfolio’s required return if it consists of 30% of Goodman, 20% of Stock A, 30% of Stock B, and 20% of Stock C.

Question 2
Quest Financial services balance sheets report $200 million in total debt, $100 million in short-term investments, and $30 million in preferred stock. Quest has 10 million shares of common stock outstanding. A financial analyst estimated that Quest’s value of operations is $1000 million. What is the analyst’s estimate of the intrinsic stock price per share?
Question 3
Lincoln Incorporated is expected to pay a $4.5 per share dividend at the end of this year (i.e., D1 = $4.50). The dividend is expected to grow at a constant rate of 5% a year. The required rate of return on the stock is, rs, is 12%. What is the estimated value per share of Boehm stock?
Question 4
Assume that the average firm in Masters Corporation’s industry is expected to grow at a constant rate of 3% and that its dividend yield is 5%. Masters is about as risky as the average firm in the industry and just paid a dividend (D0) of $2.5. Analysts expect that the growth rate of dividends will be 25% during the first year (g0,1 = 25%) and 10% during the second year (g1,2 = 10%). After Year 2, dividend growth will be constant at 5%. What is the required rate of return on Masters’s stock? What is the estimated intrinsic per share?
Question 5
Several years ago, Macro Riders issued preferred stock with a stated annual dividend of 5% of its $600 par value. Preferred stock of this type currently yields 10%. Assume dividends are paid annually.
a. What is the estimated value of Macro’s preferred stock?
b. Suppose interest rate levels have risen to the point where the preferred stock now yields 14%. What would be the new estimated value of Macro’s preferred stock?
Question 6
1. Define each of the following terms:

  • Call option
  • Put option
  • Strike price or exercise price
  • Expiration date
  • Exercise value
  • Option price
  • Time value
  • Writing an option
  • Covered option
  • Naked option
  • In-the-money call
  • Out-of-the-money call
  • LEAPS

2. The current price of a stock is $50. In 1 year, the price will be either $65 or $35. The annual risk-free rate is 10%. Find the price of a call option on the stock that has an exercise price of $55 and that expires in 1 year. (Hint: Use daily compounding.)
3. The exercise price on one of Chrisardan Company’s call options is $20, its exercise value is $27, and its time value is $8. What are the option’s market value and the price of the stock?
