Question Description

The right sampling of a population is crucial in research. Researchers have to define precisely the appropriate criteria to determine the population of study. For example studying ventilated patients, the criteria should defined if acute or chronic patients will be studied. If chronic, how many days or months on a ventilator. By refining the criteria it make a list of what is allowed to be included in the research and what is to be excluded from effecting the outcome the research. The purpose of the sampling is to be able to pull a portion to represent the whole population being studied. Carl Thompson, RN, PhD stated, “researchers must choose their sampling carefully to minimize bias” and “the ideal study sample represents the total population from which the sample was drawn” (If you could just provide me with a sample: examining sampling in qualitative and quantitative research papers, retrieved from https://ebn.bmj.com/content/2/3/68).

With proper representation of the whole population,it increases the validity of the research results. It allows the results to be used for generalization of the total population. In order for research to ultimately become evidence base practice in nursing, sampling is key. The well defined sampling of the population allows the change proposed to being determined new practice, will be successful in the whole population applied to.

Case Study
The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate the application of a nursing theory to practice. Review the clinical case provided and apply your chosen theory to the case. Please utilize APA.
Steps:
1. Clearly explain and illustrate by example how the theory guides the focus of the assessment phase of the nursing process
2. Clearly explain and illustrate by example how the theory guides the choice of the variables to be assessed
3. Clearly explain and illustrate by example how the theory guides the nursing intervention
4. Identify the nursing interventions clearly
5. Describe how the interventions will modify, prevent, remove, or decrease the etiology of the problem as defined by the theory.
6. Evaluate the applicability of the nursing theory of practice
Case Study
Elizabeth Jefferies is a divorced 46-year-old mother of two children (Lily age 8 years and Felix age 10 years) and the daughter of two aging parents in the southeastern United States. She and her children have recently relocated from an urban neighborhood to a rural town to care for her parents, Robert and Susan. The move involved a job change for Elizabeth, a change in schools for the children, and an increased distance from the children’s father Chris. Robert is a 72-year-old Methodist minister who recently suffered a stroke, leaving him with diminished motor function of his left side and difficulty swallowing. Susan is 68 years old and suffers from fibromyalgia, limiting her ability to assist with the daily care of her husband. She has experienced an increase in generalized pain, difficulty sleeping, and worsening fatigue since her husband’s stroke.

The Health Care Market

Overview

Use the Internet or online databases to research the current health care delivery structures—both private and public—within your state.

My state is Mississippi.

Instructions

Write a 6–8-page paper in which you:

  1. Analyze the current health care delivery structure in your state. Compare and contrast the major determinants of health care market power.
  2. Analyze the main competitive forces in the your health care delivery system in your state, and compare the major factors that influence the fundamental manner in which these competitive forces determine prices, supply and demand, quality of care, consumerism, and providers’ compensation.
  3. Evaluate the positive benefits and negative aspects, respectively, of HMO managed care from the provider’s point of view—i.e., a physician and a health care facility—and from a patient’s point of view. Provide a rationale for your response.
  4. Assess the efficiency of the types of economic incentives available to providers in the delivery of health care services in your own state.
  5. Propose who bears the financial risk of a capitation payment system: the provider, the patient, or the consumer-driven health plan itself.
  6. Use at least five current references. Three of these references must be from current peer-reviewed sources to support and substantiate your comments and perspectives.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

  • Assess the economics of a state’s health care delivery structure, including the financial risks of a capitation payment system.

Random observation
Students will conduct a random observation on a subject of their choice and submit their observation. Random observations could be conducted in any social setting such as work place, a family or friend gathering, a party, an event of a volunteer or non-profit organization, a religious or traditional ritual occasion etc. First, students are expected to read;
1) Geertz, C. (1973). Thick description, The interpretation of cultures. New York: Basic. and
2) Mills, C. W. (1959). The promise. The sociological imagination, 3-24.
Second, apply the two readings to their observations. In other words, they are expected to see the general (bigger picture) by looking at particular (the expectation is to find (indicate) as many larger social phenomena as possible, which appear to be role players in shaping the particular case you will be observing)
Third, apply “thick description” to their observations by taking Geertz’s points into consideration.
Expectations of the assignment will become clear once you read those two pieces and attend the lecture on sociological imagination.
Observations should be at least 1500 word (5 pages long), have a cover page, 1 inch margin, double space, Times New Roman 12. (APA or Chicago)
Using reliable Internet sources and/or the CSU Online Library, search for and locate a recent court case or lawsuit related to sexual harassment in the workplace. Then, conduct a case study in which you analyze the case, presenting an argument and applicable evidence about your selected court case or lawsuit. Consider the concepts learned in this course as you analyze the case and present your analysis.
Include the following in your paper:

  • a brief description of the conduct that precipitated the selected court case or lawsuit and how Title VII protects against this conduct;
  • an analysis of the use of the complaint procedure and the employer’s response to any complaints;
  • a discussion of preventive steps that could have been used to prevent the harassment from occurring; and
  • a summary of the costs to the employer, financial and otherwise, stemming from the lawsuit and the underlying conduct.

Your paper should be a minimum of two pages, not including the title and reference pages. You are required to use a minimum of three sources, one of which may be your textbook as reference material for your case study. Adhere to APA Style when constructing this assignment, including in-text citations and references for all sources that are used. Please note that no abstract is needed.

For this assignment you will collect data on two social determinants of health and two health outcomes for two counties and compare them to state and national data.

  1. Select two counties in the state where you reside – Las Vegas and Washoe County in NV
  2. Select two social determinants of health and two health outcomes.
  3. Compile data on your two social determinants and two health outcomes for the two counties, and compare them to the corresponding indicators at the state and national levels. Make sure that you include the sources of data for every health indicator. Sources must be retrieved from the agency directly collecting the data, not from a magazine or journal article mentioning the data. Wikipedia is never a source. Check the attached PDF for sources of data.
  4. Present your data in a table or a bar chart similar to the ones in the attached document.
  5. Reflect on the data you collected (findings as expected, surprising, reflect what you observe in your daily personal and professional life, etc.). Approximately 100-150 words.

Resources: The attached document has data on a variety of health indicators (outcomes, behaviors, and determinants) for the Lower Rio Grande Valley and compares that data to those at the state and national levels. Use the document as a guide for a variety of indicators as well as for sources of the data; each slide includes the source of data.
The following websites provide good sources of data on a myriad of health and health-related indicators.

Your assignment will contain 16 data points per the snip attached.

The first step of the evidence‐based practice process is to evaluate a nursing practice environment to identify a nursing problem in the clinical area. When a nursing problem is discovered, the nurse researcher develops a clinical guiding question to address that nursing practice problem.

For this assignment, you will create a clinical guiding question know as a PICOT question. The PICOT question must be relevant to a nursing practice problem. To support your PICOT question, identify six supporting peer‐revised research articles, as indicated below. The PICOT question and six peer‐reviewed research articles you choose will be utilized for subsequent assignments.

Use the “Literature Evaluation Table” to complete this assignment (see attached document).

1. Select a nursing practice problem of interest to use as the focus of your research (Infection control). Start with the patient population (Hospital, medical surgical unit) and identify a clinical problem or issue that arises from the patient population (nosocomial infections). In 200–250 words, provide a summary of the clinical issue.

2. Following the PICOT format, write a PICOT question in your selected nursing practice problem area of interest. The PICOT question should be applicable to your proposed capstone project (the project students must complete during their final course in the RN‐BSN program of study).

3. The PICOT question will provide a framework for your capstone project.

4. Conduct a literature search to locate six research articles focused on your selected nursing practice problem of interest. This literature search should include three quantitative and three qualitative peer‐reviewed research articles to support your nursing practice problem.

Note: To assist in your search, remove the words qualitative and quantitative and include words that narrow or broaden your main topic. For example: Search for diabetes and pediatric and dialysis. To determine what research design was used in the articles the search produced, review the abstract and the methods section of the article. The author will provide a description of data collection using qualitative or quantitative methods. Systematic Reviews, Literature Reviews, and Metanalysis articles are good resources and provide a strong level of evidence but are not considered primary research articles.  Therefore, they should not be included in this assignment.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources (minimum 6) should be presented using APA formatting guidelines.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

I have attached an article from MIT(See the Attachment) that relates to building operational resiliency in Nissan Motor Company. Read the article carefully and treat this assignment as your research paper. Based on what you have learned in class, try answering the following questions. Questions can be found on page 8 and 9 as well.

Questions:
The case identifies several aspects of the Nissan response that were particularly beneficial. Expand on the points made in the case to identify the potential costs and benefits of these actions.
What else could Nissan have done to prepare for and respond to the disaster? Try to articulate the
costs and benefits of your suggestions.
What could Nissan have done to assess the risk of disruption in their supply chain?
How did Nissan’s product line strategy help or hurt its ability to respond to and recover from the
disaster?
How will the operational changes announced in 2012 affect Nissan’s exposure to future disruptions? How will it affect its steady-state operations? What trade-offs is management making and why?
