Modern, U.S. Foreign Policy Doctrines
Today we did what we had to do. They counted on America to be passive. They counted wrong.” – Ronald Reagan
In 1793 the (George) Washington administration faced a significant, foreign policy concern. As a result of the French Revolution and the subsequent decapitation of the French king, Louis XVI, the major European nations declared war on France. France, a critical ally of the United States during the American Revolutionary War, sought help from their erstwhile allies.
American citizens were quite divided about the escalating European war. Whereas many Americans were sympathetic to the French people’s quest to rid themselves of the old regime and to embrace the revolutionary rallying cry, “Liberté, égalité, fraternité,” the subsequent radical turn of the French Revolution soured many Americans to the French revolutionary cause.
President George Washington, based on the unanimous consent of his executive cabinet comprised of Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, Henry Knox, and Edmund Randolph, decided that the United States must avoid, at all costs, military involvement on the European continent. (Dehler, n.d.)
Yet, compounding the administration’s concerns were the uncertain Constitutional waters regarding the management of foreign policy. Whereas Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution provided Congress the ability “to declare war,” Article II, Section 2 allowed the U.S. president to “make treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur.” (U.S. Constitution)
Washington’s cabinet argued that the administration must issue some sort of statement regarding U.S. foreign policy concerning the escalating, European war. Thus, asserting the President’s ability to conduct foreign affairs, the Washington administration issued the first foreign policy document: a proclamation of neutrality. The opening paragraph of the Neutrality Proclamation on April 22, 1793, stated: “Whereas it appears that a state of war exists between Austria, Prussia, Sardinia, Great-Britain, and the United Netherlands, of the one part, and France on the other, and the duty and interest of the United States require, that they should with sincerity and good faith adopt and pursue a conduct friendly and impartial toward the belligerent powers.” (U.S. Archives, 2002) As a result, precedent was set: the executive branch could now conduct foreign policy without the consent of Congress.
In 1823, thirty years after the Proclamation of Neutrality, President Monroe famously introduced the Monroe Doctrine which warned European nations to steer clear of U.S. interests in the Western hemisphere. (U.S. State Department, n.d.) Subsequently, from Washington’s Proclamation of Neutrality to the G.W. Bush’s doctrine of military preemption, presidents have introduced foreign policy doctrines that best articulate U.S. foreign policy interests.

Journal Entry:

Reflect on a patient who presented with a hematologic or metabolic disorder during your Practicum experience. Describe your experience in assessing and managing the patient and his or her family. Include details of your “aha” moment in identifying the patient’s disorder. Then, explain how the experience connected your classroom studies to the real-world clinical setting. If you did not have an opportunity to evaluate a patient with this background during the last 8 weeks, you may select a related case study from a reputable source or reflect on previous clinical experiences.

Paper #3
Discourse Communities
(150 points)
We have been exploring the concepts of Discourse/discourse and Discourse communities. Linguists James Paul Gee and John Swales have shown us both how they define these terms and how they think they apply to the ability to learn. For this paper, you will choose a Discourse community that you are a member of (either expert or novice) or one that you wish to join and write a paper that informs the reader about your community and persuades the reader that your group qualifies as a Discourse community. While you will need to start with the six criteria that Swales lays out as your main framework, you will also need to incorporate Gee to help you explain what you mean even further. I am expecting some vocabulary words like mushfake, identity kit, primary/ secondary and dominant/non-dominant Discourse, etc. to make their way into your work alongside definitions and explanations of all six of Swales’ criteria. Remember to forward the ideas presented in Gee and Swales to help convince your reader that your community is a DC. This paper is examining your ability to define the concept of a DC and your ability to incorporate authors and their concepts into your own writing.

Individual Assignment: Activity Diagram
Another type of diagram that may be helpful for Systems Analysis and Design for an Enterprise
System would be an activity diagram. An activity diagram resembles a horizontal flowchart that
shows the actions and events as they occur. Activity diagrams show the order in which the actions
take place and identify the outcomes. An activity diagram is not used to design a whole system.
1. To complete this lab, make sure that you watch the video first.
2. You must use the correct SYNTAX or shape for each step (Do not use any symbols; you will
lose points).
3. Your work MUST look professional.
4. Use one of the free online software tools to help you with your diagram.
5. No cover sheet is required. Add your name to your assignment.

What do you have to do?
Your task for this assignment is to design an activity diagram showing the actions and events
involved in transferring money from a bank checking account to the same bank saving account
using a mobile application.

nursing leadership

To prepare:

  • Think about a problem in a specific unit or area of your organization or one with which you are familiar. What are the indications that there is a problem? What change may be needed? (Note: This problem should be different from the one you are addressing in the Week 2 Assignment.). A clinical problem works well; an example is that you note an increasing number of patients with deep vein thrombosis following orthopedic surgery.
  • Consider how you could locate evidence to examine the needed change. What literature would you review? Which professional organization standards or recommendations may be relevant? With whom would you communicate/network to ascertain community standards? Bear in mind that you may also look at evidence from fields other than nursing.
  • Review the information in the Learning Resources. Using your knowledge of contemporary theories of chaos and complexity, consider how you could adapt Lewin’s classic model for change and apply this to your selected problem.

By Day 3

Post a description of the problem, including relevant indicator(s). Provide a synopsis of how you would proceed in locating evidence, including research literature you would consult, which professional organization standards may be relevant, and with whom you would communicate or network to ascertain community standards. Then, identify how you would adapt Lewin’s classic model of change based on chaos and complexity theory to address this evidence-based change.

Project Details
Instructions: You will draft a written report of approximately 800 to 1000 words plus tables. The report should explain your analysis, address the prompts, make a recommendation, and justify the recommendation. You may choose to address the case described on Blackboard (in the Course Information folder) or a real-world case of your own choosing that I approve in advance.
You may work individually or in groups of up to three people. If you decide to work in a group, however, any disputes between group members must be resolved within the group and you will not have the option of working independently if you commit to working in a group. In general, all group members will earn the same grade on their assignment. However, group members will be asked to evaluate each other and I may use these evaluations to adjust the grades assigned to individual group members.
Important details:
1. If you plan to work in a group, please send your section instructor an email by November 1 indicating who will be working together. Please be sure to cc all group members.
2. You (or your group) will turn in your final report, including tables and text, in a Word or PDF format. You will also submit your excel spreadsheet. You will submit all of this to your section instructor via email by Wednesday, December 9, 5pm. You will lose 10% every day it is late.
3. You (if doing the project individually) or your group must work independently. You must do the calculations and writing independent of other groups or individuals. Any evidence of collaboration between groups or individuals will result in a zero score for the groups/individuals involved. Conversation and discussion is fine, but any evidence of sharing excel files or the written report will be treated as evidence of a violation of academic integrity, and everyone involved (regardless of their role) will receive a zero score.
4. 50% of your grade on the project will be based on the accuracy of your calculations. We will grade individual portions of the calculations separately with the goal of not penalizing you twice for one mistake. That is, if you make a mistake in calculating OCF (as an example), but then use that incorrect number correctly from that point forward, you will receive credit for correctly using the incorrect number.
5. 30% of your grade will be based on the content of your written report. We will focus on how clearly and accurately you explained your analysis and responded to the prompts. We will also be concerned about whether the written report aligns with the calculations and tables. Do not make the mistake of glossing over important details or assuming we understand what you are intending with your writeup. Our advice is to write your report as though you were explaining your analysis to another student who is smart but does not understand project analysis as well as you. Such an approach will usually yield the right level of detail in your explanations.
6. 20% of your grade will be based on polish. Is it well written? Are there typos? Are there grammar mistakes? Is it well formatted? Does it look nice? Do the tables make sense? The answers to these questions will directly influence 20% of your grade (and indirectly influence the rest of your grade).
7. If you work in a group, you will be asked to evaluate your group members based on their teamwork. Were they actively engaged in the project? Did they put in the same effort as others? Did they do what they said they would do? Were they helpful and supportive of other group members? Would you work with that person again? Note that this will focus on attitude and engagement more than the quality of their contributions. The results of these evaluations MAY cause me to adjust an individual group member’s grade by up to 20%.
Please read this details carefully and let me know if you have any questions.

The ambulatory health service at a university is experiencing an increased number of student complaints concerning the services it offers in its walk-in urgent care clinic. Using the data in Table 14-5 on page 296 of the textbook, select a complaint for analysis. Your analysis must include a fish-bone chart, other appropriate charts (run and / or control), and any other techniques you deem necessary to analyze the data appropriately. Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you: Construct a fish-bone chart using Word or MS Paint. Construct a run and / or control chart using Excel. Recommend to the ambulatory health service on how it can improve the services it offers in its walk-in urgent care clinic, based on your analysis. Provide a rationale for your recommendation. Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements: Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions. Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
