For your sixth discussion board, you are going to begin planning for your upcoming argumentative essay, Essay 3. Since you will need to choose a controversial issue in your academic pathway to focus on, research will play a vital role in your argument. Respond to the prompts below in order to create a research proposal that will provide you direction and a strong basis for your writing. In addition, I will have the opportunity to look over your progress and help guide you toward an even stronger writing project. What is the working title for your essay? Explain your interest in this topic. In other words, why did you choose this subject to write on (beyond it simply being in your field of study)? What is the tentative claim/thesis of your essay? You should express this idea in 1-2 sentences, so make sure that your claim is as specific as possible. (Note: This argument may alter in scope and focus as you progress; you are not wholly committed to it.) How will your research and writing help to inform and/or benefit your audience? In other words, what is the larger goal of arguing about this topic? List at least two main sides of your argument (i.e., for and against). Remember that knowing and considering the counterarguments of your claim can help you to write conscientiously about your issue. Describe at least 3 specific sources that you have consulted, including relevant library databases, (credible) websites, popular and/or scholarly periodicals, books, etc. Make sure to provide specific information about your sources like titles, authors, locations, and dates of publication.

Overview
Refer to the functional model you verified and validated for ABS in the Week 4 assignment to complete this assignment.
Based on your performance, ABS management was so satisfied that it wants you to develop both the structural and behavior models. This way, ABS can fully understand both the interaction that would take place between the users and the system and the system itself in greater detail.
Note: You may create and/or assume all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.

Instructions

Write a 4–5 page paper in which you:

  1. Create Class-Responsibility-Collaboration (CRC) cards and a class diagram based on the functional models through the use of graphical tools in Microsoft Word or Visio, or an open-source alternative such as Dia. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.
  2. Identify each use case in the functional model and create a sequence and communication diagram for each scenario of each use case identified through the use of graphical tools in Microsoft Word or Visio, or an open-source alternative such as Dia. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.
  3. Create a behavioral state machine for each of the complex classes in the class diagram.
  4. Perform a CRUDE analysis to show the interactivity of the objects in the system.
  5. Perform a verification and validation walk-through of each: Revise the requirements document created in Week 4 assignment, Business Process and Functional Modeling, with additional information found in this assignment and document the assumptions.
    1. Functional model.
    2. Structural model.
    3. Behavioral model.
  6. Use at least three quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as quality resources.
Annotated Bibliography
Assignment Requirements:
1.A minimum of 10 references from reputable sources.
2.Proper APA format for each reference
3.A short summary (one or two sentences) for each source
4.A short description (one or two sentences) of how you plan on using the source in your final persuasive research essay.
For this assignment, an annotated bibliography consists of three parts:
1) A list of all the sources you’ve either used or consulted, like for background information, in the writing of your research essay
2) A brief summary of each source, like an abstract.
3) A brief description of how or why you plan on using each particular source in your final persuasive research essay.
See the example attached for format guidance.
The purpose of the annotated bibliography is to demonstrate not only research skill, but to show others the variety and relevance of all sources consulted or used. These types of documents help to establish an author’s credibility as an expert on his or her essay’s topic.
Finally, source reputability is very important for this assignment and for research writing in general. If you use as source that does not come from a reputable publication it will not be counted toward your minimum of ten.
Assessment Criteria:
In order for an annotated bibliography to earn an “A” it must:
Provide references in proper APA format
Include a minimum of ten sources from reputable locations
Include concise, well-written summaries of each source.
Include clear descriptions of how or why you plan on using each of those sources in your final persuasive research essay.
Produce a document with few to no minor grammatical and punctuation errors
Learning Outcomes Met:
Researching Phase:
• Identify scholarly articles and journals. Know the difference between primary and secondary sources, and scholarly journals and magazines or other non-academic sources.
• Use library databases and services to obtain sources to complete the project.
• Assess sources for usability and credibility.
• Read, analyze, synthesize, and summarize complex sources, challenging the assumptions, evidence, and fairness of the content. (Partially met.)
• Create an annotated working bibliography.
Drafting and Editing/Revising Phases:
• Use appropriate tone, level of formality, person, and tense

The Final Project should demonstrate an understanding of the reading assignments, class discussions, your own research and the application of new knowledge.  It should utilize previous skills developed in foundational health care courses and apply them within the context and viewpoint of  a health care administrator and their role in managing health and human services.

For the Final Project, select one of the following topics and conduct scholarly and professional research while integrating the course’s learning outcomes to address a selected topic:

  • Research specific leadership and management traits and theories necessary for managing a multidisciplinary and multicultural health care organization to promote organizational effectiveness.
  • Present how strategic planning, performance improvement, and information systems are interrelated and fundamental to the delivery of quality health care.
  • Examine the financial characteristics of health care delivery along with managing costs, revenues, and human resources.
  • Analyze ethical and legal concepts, including specific federal regulations, required of health care organizations to ensure the delivery of high quality health care that protects patient safety.

Research Requirements

Academic research and papers must meet certain standards of quality that are recognized by the academic community.  What constitutes quality academic research?

  • The use of primary (original), credible sources written by experts in the field of study.
  • Ensuring secondary sources are supported by research in primary sources.
  • Making sure all research is relevant and that material used is pertinent to the area of study.
  • In graduate work, the use of peer-reviewed journal articles (journal articles reviewed by recognized experts in the relevant field of study) is required.
  • Keep in mind that educational websites may be appropriate, in some cases, but should be evaluated carefully.

The Ashford University Library offers many excellent databases and other resources to assist you in conducting scholarly research.

What sources are not acceptable for academic research and referencing?

  • Encyclopedias
  • Dictionaries
  • Wikipedia, other wikis, or blogs
  • Websites and other sources that do not provide quality researched materials (e.g., they do not use credible sources to support the information in the document).

All research must reflect professional academic protocol and must be documented according to APA standards as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Creating the Final Project

You may choose to present your research is the form of an eight- to ten-page research paper (excluding title and reference pages) or a comprehensive 10- to 15-slide PowerPoint presentation (excluding title and reference slides) with detailed speaker notes.  In either case, the content of the assignment must include each of the elements listed below:

  1. IntroductionDescribe the issue.  Include why it was selected, the perspective of your approach to the issue, and the scope of the paper or presentation.  In essence, describe in this area what is being covered.  Be specific and to the point.  This is an important part of the project as it engages the reader and sets the scope of the research.
  2. Statement of the Issue to be InvestigatedDescribe why the topic is a relevant problem or issue.  It is important to provide literature sources in support of the importance of the need/issue/topic.  For example, if you are interested in researching the issue of nutrition in early childhood brain development among American children – cite literature identifying the scope of the problem (for example:  the number of malnourished children, the implications of malnourishment on learning and brain development; and long term implications).  Overall, this section should detail what makes this topic or issue so important that you are spending time and energy researching it.  What is the impact of the problem if nothing is done to correct the situation?
  3. Research SourcesThis section documents the relevant research reflecting the topic of the Final Project.  In this section, paraphrased narratives of the actual research studies are reported and should represent the current research related to the topic area.  In general, your research should:
    1. Identify your chosen topic and what has happened in the specific research of the topic (describe the study, sample, findings, important points from the discussion in the research article, and any variables that may influence the findings of the research).
    2. Discuss any key elements of the topic that may be instructional, legal, ethical, social, etc. (what is projected if nothing is done? what has been tried?).  Support this section with relevant resource citations.
    3. Provide an analysis of the research articles used, including: explaining what was done in the study, what the target population was, information about who did the research (the author), what was found with the study, and any implications of the findings to your topic or issue.
  4. ConclusionIn this section, provide a general, but thorough summary reviewing:  why the topic was selected; the problem or issue briefly stated; the approach that was used; findings; and solutions.  In this section, the reader or audience should have a good idea of what the researcher did and what was found.
  5. ReferencesThe references should be listed on a new page or slide and must be formatted according to APA requirements as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.  You must use a minimum of six to eight scholarly sources.
  1. Introduce yourself to your peers and instructor. Share any relevant personal and/or professional information.
  2. Tell us about your experience with public speaking:
    • Is this your first course?
    • How comfortable are you with public speaking?
    • What are two of your speaking strengths?
    • What are two speaking challenges that you have?
  3. Discuss your goals in regards to the content of this course:
    • What do you want to learn about public speaking?
    • What skills do you hope to gain?
    • How will this course help you in your personal, professional, and educational life?
  4. The Bible clearly describes the importance of clear and compassionate communication within its teachings in Ephesians 4:29 (opens in new window).
    • As you consider your speaking style, how does your faith fit into this profile?
    • Does the Biblical imperative in terms of communication influence your priorities in effective speaking?
    • If personal faith does not fit into your priorities, what does?
    • What motivates you to be a better speaker?
