TOPIC C – posted Thursday
Consider this example of the Full Disclosure principle:
A train derails and causes significant personal and property damage. At year end, claims are still being filed by the injured parties and there are quite a few lawsuits asking for outrageous money.
1) Would you accrue a “contingent” liability for any of the probable payouts in the future?
2) How would you go about estimating the potential liability from this incident?
3) The Footnotes to the financial statements are also a form of disclosure. Should any amount not be accrued and only disclosed in the footnotes?
3) Why bother?

Provide an example of a societal trend that will likely impact nursing education and patient education in the future. Provide a multidisciplinary strategy that would maximize the positive impact the trend will have. There are numerous examples that are available; therefore, it is not appropriate to repeat one that has already been provided, unless approved by the instructor. When responding to a post, provide feedback on the strategy suggested and add an additional strategy that may be effective as well.

This file of NUR 403 Week 3 DQ3 encompasses:

This week you develop an understanding of how to define a nursing philosophy, a nursing model, and nursing theory. In what way does each theorist expand your view of the nursing process? How does each of the theories fit with what you do during your workday?

Project: Promoting Health Care Quality  Section 3:

Quality Measurement and Assessment  Measuring and assessing quality provides a foundation for identifying needs for improvement, developing effective interventions, and then monitoring progress toward desired results.   In the Sadeghi, Barzi, Mikhail, and Shabot text, the authors assert that an effort to improve quality “calls for setting outcome and performance targets (goals and expectations) beginning with the end in mind, and then formulating initiatives and actions (processes) that can serve as a bridge to take the organization from its current performance to its desired performance” (p. 182).   Having this “end in mind” can provide justification for dedicating valuable resources toward the effort, and help to lay a clear, concrete path that takes the organization from uncovering gaps between current performance and evidence-based targets to actually achieving those goals.  In this section of the Course Project, you focus on what you would measure—and how you would measure it—relative to your previously identified quality improvement issue. Note: This section of the Course Project will serve as the Portfolio Assignment for this course.       Course Project: Section 3: Quality Measurement and Assessment: write a 3-5 page paper to introduce your quality improvement plan. For more details on this project, see the Week 7 Project area for specifics to include for this paper.     I have attached my paper from week 4 for the continuation of the project.     To prepare: •Review the Learning Resources. Also conduct a search of the literature related to your selected quality improvement issue and complete the Evidence Matrix (provided in this week’s Learning Resources).   •Evaluate the evidence presented in the research literature and the quality standards proposed by various organizations, including the IOM’s six aims for quality improvement.   •Based on this review and your knowledge of the organization that you have selected, determine appropriate measures and indicators of performance related to your identified quality improvement issue.   •Consider how you could gather and use historical evidence of the organization’s performance related to the quality improvement issue. Also consider methods for gathering and assessing current quantitative and qualitative data, including those currently in use by the organization (e.g., chart audit data, staff surveys, quality indicators that are monitored, observations). If possible, examine actual data to assess your selected organization’s performance related to the issue.   •Think about what, specifically, you would like to achieve related to this issue. Establish realistic, evidence-based quality performance targets.   •Analyze gap(s) between the organization’s current performance and the performance targets.   •As you do this, you may wish to create a graphic organizer/alignment chart for your own use that illustrates:   •The measures and indicators that you would evaluate   •Current and historical data related to this quality issue—either actual data or methods for how you would collect and analyze the data   •Methods for collecting and analyzing data in the future (including when you would do this)   •Realistic, evidence-based targets

(MPH PO #1, MSN PO # 1, 7) CO #5: Incorporate ongoing leadership character development, values and ethical principles into a living leader role that collaborates with and engages individuals, teams, agencies, and organizations locally as well as globally. (MPH PO #8, MSN PO #5) Due Date:Sunday 11:59 PM MT at the end of Week 7 Total Points Possible:125 Points REQUIREMENTS: Description of the Identified Healthcare Concern You are the Vice-President of Nursing Services at a 500 bed facility that provides healthcare to a 6 county region that occurs in two different but adjoining states. Recently you attended a national conference regarding infectious diseases and the potential for their spread with our current global environment. Upon return from the conference, you have a conversation with a local public health official who identifies that there is no regional plan to combat an infectious disease outbreak. In addition, the official noted the presence of several barriers which will make the development of a plan more of a challenge. These include, but are not limited to: · Identification of a plan that would cover a large region and a diverse population of approximately one million people · Identification of a plan that could be coordinated from one facility, but interact successfully with 6 different counties and two different state governments · The presence of a regional airport which increases the opportunity for introducing an infectious disease to the region From the conversation, you realize that a coalition will be needed and that macro leadership skills are required for the coalition to be successful. You now accept the challenge to build a coalition within the region to develop a plan that would resist a sudden outbreak of an infectious illness. Description of the Assignment The purpose of this project will be to address a healthcare concern occurring within a community by providing macro level leadership needed to build a coalition. The identified coalition will seek to resolve the healthcare concern. · This assignment will be presented via PowerPoint and will include 15 – 20 slides (excluding title and references slides). · Introduction provides information regarding: o Introductory slide(s) provided ALL of the following: o Definition of macro-leadership o Definition of coalitions o Explanation why a coalition would be helpful in resolving this identified healthcare concern. · Section One identifies macro-leadership skills and requires information related to each of the following areas: o Explain the difference between micro and macro leadership. o Explain how a macro leader demonstrates: § Mastery of self § Mastery of communication § Mastery of relationships o Explain how a macro-leader can overcome one disadvantage to using coalitions · Section Two discusses the coalitions in general by including the following information: o How will you pool available local and state resources? o How will you foster communication with individuals living in the region as well as local and state governments? o How will you maintain the energy of the coalition members? o How will you convince members to work together and avoid turf issues? · Section Three presents the specific coalition that you will suggest in order to resolve the identified healthcare concern. The following information is required: o What will be your vision statement for the coalition? o How many individuals will you have on the steering committee for the coalition? o What type of individuals would you recruit for steering committee membership? o How will the coalition interact with local and state governments to develop an acceptable plan? o How will you evaluate the effectiveness of the coalition? · Conclusion provides a summary of the key points from the presentation as well as of insights gained (what was learned) regarding macro leadership. Criteria for Format and Special Instructions 1. The PowerPoint Presentation (excluding the Title slide and References slide) should equal 15–20PowerPoint slides. Points will be lost for not meeting these length requirements. 2. Speaker notes are required. These notes should expand the information found on the slide. 3. References are to be cited in the Speaker notes 4. This assignment must be submitted to TurnItIn™, as required by the TurnItIn™ policy. A Similarity Index of “blue” or “green” must be obtained. A score in the blue or green range indicates a similarity of less than 24% which is the benchmark for CCN graduate nursing students. Any other level of similarity index level requires the student to revise the assignment before the due date and time. To allow sufficient time for revision, early submission of the assignment to TurnItIn™ is highly encouraged. The final submission will be graded by faculty. For this assignment, you will analyze a well-known and widely debated incident where policing style played a factor. You will need to do basic research on the Branch Davidian Standoff, which took place in Waco, Texas, in 1993. Then, analyze the case according to the instructions below.

  • Provide a historical overview of the facts of the Branch Davidian Standoff.
  • Analyze the factor of police negotiation during the siege.
  • Explain how non-law-enforcement personnel (e.g., compound residents, media) impacted the efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to end the siege.
  • Discuss how, in retrospect, the siege could have been handled differently by the FBI and ATF agencies to produce a different result.
  • Imagine if a similar incident took place today. Discuss how changing police styles enables law enforcement to adapt to changes in society.

You must use at least three credible sources to support your case study, two of which must be from the CSU Online Library. All sources used must be properly cited. Your case study should present an insightful and thorough analysis, contain a strong argument and evidence, and show correlation to concepts learned in this unit.
Your case study must be a minimum of three pages in length, not counting the title page and references page. Your case study, including all references, should be formatted in APA Style.

  • The Fourth Amendment of our U.S. Constitution states: “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”   Considering the Fourth Amendment and the U.S. Supreme Court’s interpretation of the amendment, does an individual who places their garbage bags outside have a reasonable expectation of privacy when it comes to the contents of the garbage bags?  Why or why not?
  • Then, respond to the posts of at least two (2) other peers with comments that continue to drive the discussion.

Week 5 Hot Topic: Extra Credit:
A Louisville police officer who was shot during the botched raid that killed Breonna Taylor is suing her boyfriend claiming Kenneth Walker caused him “severe trauma,” according to reports.
Louisville Metro Police Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly who authorities say was shot in the thigh and needed five hours of surgery to repair his femoral artery after the March 13 raid  filed a countersuit against Walker alleging battery, assault and emotional distress, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported late Thursday.  Mattingly’s civil suit claims Walker’s response to officers barging into Taylor’s apartment on a no-knock warrant as part of a narcotics probe was “outrageous, intolerable and offends all accepted standards of decency or morality,” the newspaper reported.
“Sgt. Mattingly was shot and nearly killed by Kenneth Walker,” the sergeant’s attorney told the Courier-Journal in a statement. “He’s entitled to, and should, use the legal process to seek a remedy for the injury that Walker has caused him.”  Mattingly’s countersuit seeks a jury trial, as well as damages and attorney fees, according to the report.
The countersuit is a response to a lawsuit filed by Walker, 28, against Louisville police, the city and others this summer seeking immunity from prosecution based on Kentucky’s “Stand Your Ground” law. He also insisted in September that he didn’t fire the bullet that nearly severed Mattingly’s femoral artery.  Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend says he didn’t wound cop during shootout.
Walker, a licensed gun owner, was initially arrested for attempted murder and assault for allegedly shooting Mattingly, but those charges were later dropped. Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron has said the six shots Mattingly fired into Taylor’s apartment was a “justified” response to him being shot during the raid.  Detective Myles Cosgrove and former Detective Brett Hankison also opened fire, squeezing off a total of 32 rounds and striking Taylor six times, killing her in her apartment. No drugs were found inside the apartment, police later said.
Walker’s attorney, meanwhile, dismissed Mattingly’s countersuit as a “baseless attempt to further victimize and harass Kenny,” Attorney Steve Romines said Walker is “immune from both criminal prosecution and civil liability” since he was acting in self-defense in his own home.  “One would think that breaking into the apartment, executing his girlfriend and framing him for a crime in an effort to cover up her murder would be enough for them.  Even the most basic understanding of Kentucky’s ‘Stand Your Ground’ law and the ‘Castle Doctrine’ evidences this fact,” Romines told CBS News.
What are your thoughts?  Does the officer have a legitimate case, or is it frivolous?

  • Use font Times New Roman, Calibri or Arial.
  • Use 1.5 or double line spacing with left Justify all paragraphs.
  • Use the footer function to insert page number.
  • Ensure that you follow the APA style in your project.
  • Your project report length should be between 2500 to 3000 words.
