Prepare a 10–12-slide PowerPoint presentation for department managers on building leadership and trust in collaborative teams.

Perhaps the best predictor of team success is its clarity of purpose and the team’s commitment to achieving it. To support that purpose, a team needs a process that moves smoothly from vision and mission to goals and tasks in order to achieve the desired outcomes. The foundation of both purpose and process is leadership.

Requirements

You have been asked by organizational leadership to develop a PowerPoint presentation for department managers on building leadership and trust in collaborative teams. Your presentation should be 10–12 slides in length and include a references slide at the end. Use the notes section of each slide to expand your talking points and reference your resources. Be sure your references are formatted according to APA guidelines.

This assessment examines two critical components for interprofessional team success: leadership and trust. Develop a PowerPoint presentation in which you:

  • Identify at least three leadership behaviors that build trust within a team.
  • Identify at least three leadership behaviors that undermine trust within a team.
  • Explain the consequences of a team that does not trust its leader in terms of patient safety.
  • Describe strategies team members can use to build trust among one another in terms of skill, knowledge, and responsibility.
  • Describe principles of effective interprofessional team leadership. In other words, what skills and qualities should a good team leader possess? Is there a difference between being a good leader and being an effective leader?

Additional Requirements

  • Include a title slide and references slide.
  • Create 10–12 slides in addition to the title and references slides.
  • Use at least three current scholarly or professional resources.
  • Use APA format for references.
  • Be creative. Consider your target audience.

Discussion 1: The Influence of Mission and Vision on Planning

As you read the following mission statements, think about what you might deduce about each organization:“Nurses advancing our profession to improve health for all,” American Nurses Association“The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors,” American Red Cross“The mission of Southwest Airlines is dedication to the highest quality of Customer Service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and Company Spirit,” Southwest Airlines“To inspire hope and contribute to health and well-being by providing the best care to every patient through integrated clinical practice, education and research,” Mayo Clinic“Provide telehealth solutions and executive medical research management to enhance and support military healthcare and promote innovative medical technologies,” Telemedicine & Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC)“Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful,” GoogleAn organization’s mission describes its core purpose. In partnership with the organization’s vision, which communicates a future-focused direction, the mission provides a basis for planning and decision making at all levels of the organization. For this Discussion, you compare mission and vision statements from multiple organizations and consider how these statements relate to planning. To prepare:Review the information related to the planning hierarchy and mission and vision statements in this week’s Learning Resources.Research the mission and vision statements of three different types of organizations: a for-profit health care organization, a not-for-profit health care organization, and an organization outside of health care. As you examine the organizations’ mission and vision statements, consider the following:                   How effectively do the mission statements articulate the organization’s purpose? How effectively do the vision statements reflect future aims?Do the mission and vision statements convey who (which groups) the organizations serve? Do they indicate obligations to various stakeholders? Are the statements an appropriate length? What do you glean about how leaders in health care and in other industries envision and convey mission and vision? What do you discern about the interdisciplinary nature of crafting mission and vision statements by looking across organizations, including those outside of health care?Identify key insights you have gained by comparing the mission and vision statements of these three organizations.Consider how an organization’s mission and vision relate to the planning hierarchy. For each organization you have selected, think about how the mission and vision could or should influence planning. What elements of each mission and vision stand out as especially significant?
By Day 3Post a comparison of the mission and vision statements of the three organizations selected. Explain how specific elements of each organization’s mission and vision statements might inform planning in that organization. Include references/links for the organizations’ mission and vision statements in your post.

What is the role of state-based action coalitions and how do they advance goals of the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action?

Explore the Campaign for Action webpage (you may need to research your state’s website independently if it is not active on this site): http://campaignforaction.org/states

Review your state’s progress report by locating your state and clicking on one of the six progress icons for: education, leadership, practice, interpersonal collaboration, diversity, and data. You can also download a full progress report for your state by clicking on the box located at the bottom of the webpage.

In a paper of 1,000-1,250 words:

1. Discuss the work of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Committee Initiative on the Future of Nursing and the Institute of Medicine research that led to the IOM report, “Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health.”

2. Identify the importance of the IOM “Future of Nursing” report related to nursing practice, nursing education and nursing workforce development.

3. What is the role of state-based action coalitions and how do they advance goals of the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action?

Summarize two initiatives spearheaded by your state’s action coalition. In what ways do these initiatives advance the nursing profession? What barriers to advancement currently exist in your state? How can nursing advocates in your state overcome these barriers?

Please include a strong thesis statement, in-text citations with all factual information, a minimum of three scholarly in-text citations and references are required for this assignment. References must be within the last 5 -7 years.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

What type of drug should you prescribe based on your patient’s diagnosis? How much of the drug should the patient receive? How often should the drug be administered? When should the drug not be prescribed? Are there individual patient factors that could create complications when taking the drug? Should you be prescribing drugs to this patient?

These are some of the questions you might consider when selecting a treatment plan for a patient. As an advanced practice nurse prescribing drugs, you are held accountable for people’s lives on a daily basis. Patients and their families will often place trust in you because of your position. With this trust comes power and responsibility, as well as an ethical and legal obligation to “do no harm.” It is important that you are aware of current professional, legal, and ethical standards for advanced practice nurses with prescriptive authority. In this Discussion, you explore ethical and legal implications of scenarios and consider how to appropriately respond.

Scenario 1:

As a nurse practitioner, you prescribe medications for your patients. You make an error when prescribing medication to a 5-year-old patient. Rather than dosing him appropriately, you prescribe a dose suitable for an adult.

Scenario 2:

A friend calls and asks you to prescribe a medication for her. You have this autonomy, but you don’t have your friend’s medical history. You write the prescription anyway.

Scenario 3:

You see another nurse practitioner writing a prescription for her husband who is not a patient of the nurse practitioner. The prescription is for a narcotic. You can’t decide whether or not to report the incident.

Scenario 4:

During your lunch break at the hospital, you read a journal article on pharmacoeconomics. You think of a couple of patients who have recently mentioned their financial difficulties. You wonder if some of the expensive drugs you have prescribed are sufficiently managing the patients’ health conditions and improving their quality of life.

To prepare:

  • – Review Chapter 1 of the Arcangelo and Peterson text, as      well as articles from the American Nurses Association, Anderson and      Townsend, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and Philipsend and Soeken.
  • – Select one of the four scenarios listed above.
  • – Consider the ethical and legal implications of the      scenario for all stakeholders involved such as the prescriber, pharmacist,      patient, and the patient’s family.
  • – Think about two strategies that you, as an advanced      practice nurse, would use to guide your ethically and legally responsible      decision-making in this scenario.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post an explanation of the ethical and legal implications of the scenario you selected on all stakeholders involved such as the prescriber, pharmacist, patient, and the patient’s family. Describe two strategies that you, as an advanced practice nurse, would use to guide your decision making in this scenario.

– This work should have Introduction and conclusion

– This work should have at 3 to 5current references (Year 2012 and up)

– Use at least 2 references from class Learning Resources

Etiologies, Trends, and Predictors of 30-Day Readmission in Patients with Heart Failure

Summary: Heart failure is the most common discharge diagnosis across the United States, and these patients are particularly vulnerable to readmissions. A study of heart failure patients was completed with specific qualifiers.  Readmission causes were identified using International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, codes in primary diagnosis filed. The primary outcome was 30-day readmission. The study showed readmission after a hospitalization for HF is common. Although it may be necessary to readmit some patients, the striking rate of readmission demands efforts to further clarify the determinants of readmission and develop strategies in terms of quality of care and care transitions to prevent this adverse outcome.

Strength: Discusses causes of readmissions of heart failure patients.

Weakness: The study needs further clarification of why heart failure patients are being readmitted.
