Discussion—Relapse and Pain

One of the largest hurdles in recovering from a substance use disorder does not concern getting sober, but rather, staying sober over time. Relapse is a constant threat; clients are consistently battling against their triggers to remain sober. Additionally, many recovering users suffer from pain, sometimes due to the initial conditions that led them to use, or from conditions developed through their chronic substance use.
Keeping this in mind, respond to the following questions:

  • 1.Evaluate the most common relapse triggers.
  • 2.Analyze at least two relapse prevention strategies.
  • 3.Explain how pain causes complications in preventing relapse in sober clients.
  • 4.Hypothesize the risks and benefits in sober clients using pain medication as prescribed to help manage their pain.

Using information from the textbook, lecture materials, and other scholarly resources, write your initial response in approximately 300–400 words. Please be detailed oriented.

Spin Doctoring Essay Assignment Paper – Critical Thinking Exercise
This assignment is worth up to 75 points. We will apply course concepts from Myers Chapter 7 (Persuasion) to the following case:
Case.  Spin doctoring is form of impression management that has been in the repertoire of public relations practitioners for four decades.  The term refers to the tactic of shifting the focus off of the negative and harmful aspects of something by substituting another issue that has positive connotations.  Spin doctors change the terms of public perception and debate using the mass media, which today includes blogs and social media like Facebook.  Spin doctoring is an international phenomenon the serves the interests of organizations in every sector of society.

The tobacco industry is considered to be the classic case of spin doctoring.  After 1966 when the Surgeon General of the U.S. pronounced that cigarette packages must carry a health warning, the tobacco industry found a way to offset the damaging publicity by sponsoring sports and arts events and giving grants for community development.  By de-emphasizing the dangers of smoking and emphasizing the positive contributions being made to community life, Big Tobacco trivialized the health problems and turned attention instead to its displays of corporate social responsibility. Spin Doctoring Essay Assignment Paper – Critical Thinking Exercise.
A contemporary example of spin doctoring relates to the claim that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, which was the original rationale for the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003.  When the intelligence about weapons of mass destruction proved to be faulty, the debate was quickly and skillfully shifted by spin doctors to a humanitarian argument that the Iraqi people must be freed from the clutches Saddam Hussein the ruthless dictator.  While no evidence of weapons of mass destruction could be found, mass graves of Iraqi citizens killed at the behest of Saddam Hussein could be found and thus, legitimate the invasion. Spin Doctoring Essay Assignment Paper – Critical Thinking Exercise.
The debate over climate change and global warming is very similar in some ways to the tobacco example because it involves the efforts of hydrocarbons producers to debunk the hypothesis that global warming is primarily caused by the high levels of CO2 emissions associated with the consumption of fossil fuels.  By spinning the argument away from CO2 emissions towards touting how technology is producing cleaner, greener fuels, the hydrocarbon industry gives the appearance of being environmentally responsible at a time when the pressure from environmental organizations like Greenpeace and the Suzuki Foundation, and high-profile environmentalists like Al Gore cannot be denied.
Your Assignment:  Use critical thinking to analyze the following three questions relating to aspects of persuasion.  Specifically utilized the particular course concept or concepts stated in each question.

  1. Which paths(s) to persuasion is/are present in the global warming case? Explain how the paths are shown.
  2. How does the tobacco industry example fit into our understanding of impression management?
  3. Is spin doctoring the same as propaganda or is it fundamentally different? How so? Address the weapons of mass destruction case in your answer.

Expectations

  • You will address each of the required questions in essay form, explaining the reasoning behind your answer and identifying the course concept(s) explicitly;
  • You will use subheadings so that each question clearly occupies its own section of the paper;
  • Your name will appear on the first page of your paper; Spin Doctoring Essay Assignment Paper – Critical Thinking Exercise.
  • You will use APA citations in the text and include a References section at the end of your paper
  • You will spell and grammar check your paper

Assessing and Treating Clients With Psychosis and Schizophrenia Essay Assignment Papers

Week 6: Antipsychotic Therapy

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, approximately 100,000 people experience psychosis in the United States each year (NAMI, 2016). In practice, clients may present with delusions, hallucinations, disorganized thinking, disorganized or abnormal motor behavior, as well as other negative symptoms that can be disabling for these individuals. Not only are these symptoms one of the most challenging symptom clusters you will encounter, many are associated with other disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, and disorders on the schizophrenia spectrum. As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, you must understand the underlying neurobiology of these symptoms to select appropriate therapies and improve outcomes for clients. Assessing and Treating Clients With Psychosis and Schizophrenia Essay Assignment Papers.
This week, as you examine antipsychotic therapies, you explore the assessment and treatment of clients with psychosis and schizophrenia. You also consider ethical and legal implications of these therapies.

Midterm question 5

“Pharmaceuticals in the water are being blamed for severe reproductive problems in many types of fish: The endangered razorback sucker and male fathead minnow have been found with lower sperm counts and damaged sperm; some walleyes and male carp have become what are called feminized fish, producing egg yolk proteins typically made only by females.

Meanwhile, female fish have developed male genital organs. Also, there are skewed sex ratios in some aquatic populations, and sexually abnormal bass that produce cells for both sperm and eggs”.

There are problems with other wildlife as well: kidney failure in vultures, impaired reproduction in mussels, or inhibited growth in algae.”

After reading the above paragraph, a population fish is decreasing every year.  Flushing medicine down the toilet is an action that has produced changes in the marine ecosystem. You are the company’s chemist responding to a government finding about pharmaceuticals contaminating the fishing waterways of NJ.

What design possibilities might save the marine ecosystem?  What tests could you use to indicate what macromolecules are overly abundant in the water system?

What macromolecules are responsible?  Why are these kinds of macromolecules responsible for feminizing fish?

Create a PowerPoint presentation of 25 slides to convince the FDA that you have a possible solution.

Course Reflection: Adulthood, Aging, And Adjustment To Death

At the end of life, there are a number of important considerations for both the dying person and his/her family. The person’s wishes for end-of-life care should be considered, for example. It is also important to examine the process of death and dying, as this too, is a developmental stage. To tackle this issue, we will examine the Kubler-Ross model of adjustment to death. You will also have an opportunity to discuss with your fellow students your thoughts about adult development and aging.
Use your module readings and the Argosy University online library resources to research the Kubler-Ross model of adjustment to death.
Select a person in the news or on the Internet, or a fictional character in a book. For the selected person, use your research on the Kubler-Ross model of adjustment to death to address the following:

  • How did that individual adjust to death? How well did the adjustment fit the Kubler-Ross theory?
  • What changes would you make to the Kubler-Ross theory based on your example?

HOW CAN ORGANIZATIONS STAY ABREAST OF CURRENT CHANGES IN REGULATIONS, STANDARDS, SCOPE OF PRACTICE, AND SO ON?

The Influence of Regulatory Agencies in Healthcare
There are many regulatory bodies (both internal and external to an organization) that influence policy, standards and guidelines, and the scope of practice. For this discussion, consider the following:Discuss two regulatory entities that directly influence care delivery on your unit or at your organization. How can organizations stay abreast of current changes in regulations, standards, scope of practice, and so on? How should this information be communicated to the healthcare team?Analyze nursing leadership’s role in maintaining compliance with current standards. How will you apply your knowledge of regulatory agency compliance to your professional practice?Be sure to support your discussion with references to the literature as appropriate.

150 WORDS NO REFERENCE REQUIRED. RESPOND TO THE POST BELOW PEER RESPONSE

150 words no reference required. Respond to the post below peer responseAs students it looks like there are many ways we can be actively involved. We can take part in the AANA Student Writing Contest play in the Anesthesia College Bowl serve on different committees such as 1) education 2) practice public relations and health and wellness 3) the CRNA political action committee and attend the Nurse Anesthesia Annual Congress meetings (which combines networking evidence-based education and the latest technological advances in anesthesia in a new location every year). Something that I really support is the Student Mentoring Program that’s coordinated by the AANA Communications Committee. Every year at the AANA Mid-Year Assembly a group of SRNAs get to spend a day with experienced CRNA leaders. This allows networking which I think is really important for our profession and the primary goal of this program is to mentor and produce future leaders of the AANA . Past CRNAs have worked and lobbied so hard for our profession – we wouldn’t be where we are today if it weren’t for those who have fought and advocated for us.One of our classmates mentioned in DB #3 that since physician anesthesiologists make so much money they are probably able to put a lot more money into the ASA. While that is probably true we should not let that deter us. We could donate to the AANA as much as we can even if it’s $20 and we can have fundraisers to help raise money too. The RISE Above Campaign is seeking to do what we all as students agree on and wish the public were better informed on – to prove the value and worth of CRNAs. This is a three year campaign that aims to raise $1 million to fund Health Services Research that will inform healthcare policy affecting patient care processes and patient/provider interactions (RISE Above). There is a website called The Future of Anesthesia Care Today and it is awesome. It talks about who we are what our education and training is like and why we are the most cost-effective choice when it comes to choosing an anesthesia provider. This website has numerous research studies to back up what they are recommending. It would be nice if we could somehow direct a lot of traffic to this website and maybe distribute it on social media to help with public awareness.Something that interests me personally as far as gaps in the literature goes – I wasn’t able to find any publications or abstracts on CRNAs vs dental anesthesia providers regarding patient safety and outcomes. Ialso couldn’t find much research on neonates and the OB population – I’m sure after starting clinicals next year topics will come to mind that I might want to further explore.I agree with my classmate in that it wouldn’t hurt to have more CRNA research. After looking over the AANA website it looks like much research has been done or is happening currently. But I think we need to think of better ways to help distribute that research especially to the public and to politicians. As politicians and state laws have a direct influence on how we are allowed to practice where we can practice independently and whatnot maybe we can meet with the politicians of all the non opt-out states to see where they get their influences from how they came to their decision and what we can do to convince them that we should be allowed to practice independently (I believe one of our classmates came up with this idea first courtesy of John and I support his idea). Other classmates have mentioned using social media as that is something that is very popular and a good way to help reach millions. Johnson&Johnson has a Discover Nursing Campaign with TV commercials and a website dedicated to achieving a nursing career with information on how to become a nurse NCLEX study tips job interview advice and so much more. It would be nice to have a Discover CRNA Campaign. Maybe as student CRNAs we can volunteer at local high schools and introduce our profession on a career day or go to nursing schools and talk about who we are and what we do. Our research is strong and we have a lot of it but what good is it if we only circulate it amongst ourselves? I really think we should continue to advocate for our profession be active in the AANA and help educate the public on who we are.
