Assignment #11–preparing for Essay #3
hey all, unlike our first 2 papers where you answered questions that you were given, for this next essay, you are going to have a lot more freedom.
First off, I am not even sure we should call it “essay” #3, because even though we will be doing a lot of writing, and even though you will still be expected to build phat paras, and bring in quotes, the FORMAT that you may be writing might not look like an essay. (Those of you who have attended zoom calls already this week know what I am talking about….)
To prepare for Essay/Project #3, we are having YOU brainstorm some ideas about what you think you might like to do. We have been discussing ideas in the zoom classes, and now it is time for you to take it further.
You will be answering these questions in order to develop your possible essay/project. Once you. turn this in, I will be working with you next week to make sure that your essay/project will work. Here are the questions. Please be as thorough and detailed as possible. Don’t simply say “I want to do a project about the Homeless.” That is of course much too general.
The general topic areas that we are exploring is: Politics (this can be local or national) / Community engagement / Climate and Environment …. Of course you dont need to have your idea hit ALL these areas…. one area is enough.
here are the questions:

  1. Please describe in detail, what exactly is your project proposal about ?
  2. What need is being filled, or what problem is being addressed by your project?
  3. Who is the audience for your project?
  4. How will people interact with your project?
  5. What format would your writing take? (web page… brochure…letter…Zine….etc.)
  6. Anything else you would like to add or say about your project?
3. Mr. Jones has approximately 300 dairy cattle that he milks twice a day. Every morning at 9 a.m., the wholesaler stops on his route with his tanker truck and picks up Mr. Jones’ milk. The milk is then taken to the processing plant, where it is combined with hundreds of other dairy farmers’ milk from around the area. Most of the milk is processed and put into bottles or cartons and shipped to local stores. Some of the milk is used to produce other dairy products.

4. Elvira College has an enrollment of 1,000 students and is located in a small Midwestern town named Johnsonville. Johnsonville has a total population of 2,500 people. The nearest town is 20 miles away. Most of the residents shop locally, but they travel about once a month to the larger city and pick up the large-ticket items. Johnsonville has one fairly good-size supply store named Jameson’s Grocery. The only other place in town where you might buy supplies is at the gas station/convenience store located on the edge of town. What competitive situation is Jameson’s Grocery experiencing?

5. Iowa farmers can choose from five different manufacturers of farm implement equipment. Two of these manufacturers account for more than 80 percent of all the farm equipment sold in Iowa. These two manufacturers produce very similar equipment. Whenever one manufacturer has a sale, offers rebates, or offers special financing, the other manufacturer quickly follows with a similar program.
Competitive Situation:
Explanation:

Supporting your proposal with research is a good way to ensure an effective program and a competitive proposal. You can incorporate research into your background information and description of the current situation. You might also find similar programs or studies that show that such efforts have been effective in the past. Demographics for the community with which you are working help to clarify the community need and the people who would be served by the project. Write a post that answers the following questions:

  1. What is your main research question? What are some secondary questions you need to explore through research? (Tip: Focus on the community need.)
  2. What information do you need to know about the broad topic of your research? Think big–does this community need exist on a national or global level?
  3. What information do you need to know about the local community? Think very specifically about the area you are serving.
  4. What SPECIFIC sources will be useful to find the information you need? (don’t just say “websites” or “the library”–Which websites, databases, or journals are likely to have the information you need?)

To prepare for this activity, review the document titled “Research Methods” and explore the Library Research Guide for our course.

Directions: Be sure to make an electronic copy of your answer before submitting it to Ashworth College for grading. Unless otherwise stated, answer in complete sentences, and be sure to use correct English spelling and grammar. Sources must be cited in APA format. Your response should be four (4) pages in length; refer to the “Assignment Format” page for specific format requirements.
In your course, turn to Lesson 4. Skim through it to refresh your memory. Next, carefully study and review the section titled, “Ecological Challenges Facing Humanity.” Skim through that and then focus on the topic of deforestation.
Using your own words, write a short descriptive essay that defines and explains selected environmental impacts of deforestation. As you write, imagine you are talking to a friend who has no knowledge of this topic. In short, write the way you speak, using a conversational tone. Also, try to alternate short sentences and longer sentences to make your writing more readable.
Be sure to create a title and cite yourself as the author. For example:
Environmental Impacts of Deforestation
Jennifer Croft
Your essay should include five paragraphs, as follows:

  • Paragraph 1 is your lead paragraph. It will contain an overview of what you have to say about these three topics: disruption of the carbon cycle, disruption of the hydrologic (water) cycle, and the reduction of species diversity.
  • Paragraphs 2, 3, and 4, are your body paragraphs.
    • Paragraph 2 should describe how deforestation disrupts the carbon cycle.
    • In paragraph 3, you’ll write about how deforestation disrupts the hydrologic (water) cycle.
    • In paragraph 4, you’ll explain how deforestation is related to declining species diversity.
  • Paragraph 5 is your conclusion paragraph. Here, you can describe how you feel about the three effects of deforestation discussed, and what we might do about it.

It’s permissible to use direct quotes from your reading, but don’t use too many. One to three such quotes should be your limit. Be sure to put a direct quote in quotation marks. For example: According to Smith, “Carbon dioxide is both our friend and our enemy.”

Reflective Paper:Word limit: 1000 words
Guideline for reflective journal Reflection and reflective practice are widely used in the nursing literature and this method can bridge the gap between theory and practice and of developing and articulating tacit knowledge (Hillerik, 2012). Reflection in practice is the process that involves recalling thought and memories to make sense of a significant event, so that necessary changes to teaching practice are identified and recommended (Bagay, 2012; Coutts, 2014). The purpose of this reflective journal is to provide students with the opportunity to do personal reflection on the issues related to current nursing knowledge and practice learnt in this course. Critical analyses with logical arguments in the reflective paper are crucial. The paper documents the students’ reflective thinking and learning that has taken place, and the feelings they have experienced in the entire learning process. The objective is to allow students to be able to reflect on the learning experience of issues related to nursing knowledge and practice from the course as well as the group project.

Written report should be typed on A-4 size paper, double line spacing, 12 font size and single sided page. Referencing style should be referred to APA system (American Psychological Association).

CriteriaMark Quality of the Content & Analysis:-Able to describe the learning experience of contemporary issues related to nursing knowledge and practice from the course and the group project. / 20-Able to share the major thoughts, perceptions, and feelings that related to this learning experience. / 20-Demonstrates understanding of the related concepts / theories / domains of contemporary nursing issues. / 20-Able to reflect the learning that has taken place. / 20-Structure of the Reflective Journal Components and content of the journal are written literally and logically. / 10-Utilization of Information Utilizes evidence-based literature which is appropriate to the content.Appropriate APA referencing is used. / 10Total / 100

You have been reflecting on changes you have undergone since beginning this program in each of your Journal entries in this course. Now you will synthesize those reflections, plus any other insights into a paper articulating your RN to BSN educational journey. You will use your module Journal entries as well as examples from other RN BSN courses to construct the Synthesis paper.

Objectives
Synthesis Paper in a reflective activity comprised of your experience in the RN BSN program.
You will address your experiences before the RN BSN program, you as a lifelong learner, you in the continuum of novice to expert in the professional nursing role, an account of your role transition to a professional nurse, and an evaluation of the program.
The Synthesis Paper will reflect your understanding and use of APA format and scholarly writing.

The following rubric will be used to grade the Synthesis Paper. The paper has 6 sections:
Introduction
Before RN-BSN Program
Lifelong Learning
Novice to Expert
Synthesis of Role Transition to Professional Nursing
Evaluation
The paper must have title page, reference page, plus no more than 4 pages that address the 6 sections of the paper outlined in the grading rubric. So with the title page, 4 pages for the body of the paper, and the reference page, the Synthesis Paper must not be more than 6 total pages using 12-point Times Roman font.
The first 2 grading criteria noted in the rubric below apply to all sections of the paper. APA format, scholarly writing, grammar and spelling are graded in each section. Use Spell Check and Grammar Check!
In-text citations are required to support each section when you discuss the RN BSN courses or the program.
