The table should be single spaced and a maximum of three (3) pages. Also include a cover page and a reference page in APA Format (these do not count toward the page limit). Reference the bolded formatting instructions in the Class Guidelines area of the syllabus.  The topics is as follows

Disadvantaged children often do not have health insurance and do not receive the preventive care (such as vaccines and well-baby check-ups) that can help avoid long-term health problems

Health Problem:Describe and provide details about the health problem.  Indicate in detail who is most impacted by this health problem. This section must include how the problem impacts patients, health care providers and/or professionals, health organizations, and government. Note the human and financial costs. Use in-text citations for all statistical references.
Healthy People 2020:Summarize the health problem as recognized by Healthy People 2020. Note how the health problem you identified fits within the Healthy People 2020 framework. Use in-text citations as needed. If the issue is not identified in Healthy People 2020, research and assess if another governmental document identifies and describes the problem. If yes, indicate the source. Hypothesize about why this specific societal health problem might have been excluded from Healthy People 2020.
Official Title and Citation of the Legislation:Indicate the government’s response to the health problem you selected. Select one piece of legislation. In this section, include the title, bill number or citation from the statute.
Status:As of the date of submission, what is the status of the legislation in the health policy cycle?

Resources for Updates:What resource would a health organization use to check for updates on this policy or legislation?

Figure 1.1 in the course text illustrates how various functional plans for a healthcare organization support the overall strategic plan.

Figure 1.1: Relationship of overall strategic plan to business unit plans. Adapted from Strategic Planning and Marketing in Healthcare Organizations by R. Stevens and L. S. Silver, 2015, section 1.2: “The Importance of Strategic Planning and Marketing – Strategic Planning Process Overview.” Copyright 2015 by Bridgepoint Education, Inc.

The healthcare delivery system is often described as a service-driven industry. Therefore, it is vitally important for healthcare organizations to define the services that they are providing; however, it is equally important to determine the demographics or customer base that requires the specific service.

The strategic planning process supports the healthcare organization by prioritizing objectives and detailing the actions needed to fulfil the goals of the business plan. Specific actions are unique and depend on the healthcare organization’s services, goals, and mission. Not all objectives outlined in the strategic plan require marketing plans (e.g., purchasing land, equipment, and buildings). Other objectives may require a marketing plan (e.g., providing physical therapy targeted toward a specific demographic).

To prepare for this discussion, read Chapters 1 and 2 of the course text. You may also want to review the recommended article by Yang (2010). Then read the scenario below and construct your initial post based on the directives that follow.

Scenario
The marketing director for Happy Valley long-term care center looks at the organization’s strategic plan to differentiate marketable objectives from non-marketable objectives. Objectives found in the healthcare organization’s strategic plan include the following:

Purchasing medical equipment
Purchasing more land
Acquiring financial capital
Acquiring physical resources
Providing elder day care to Alzheimer’s patients
Providing physical therapy
Providing social activities such as bingo
Promoting product awareness such as: marketing in a manor to improve the public’s perception of the HCO’s product or service
Providing shuttle service to medical appointments
Increasing sales
Creating a brand
Establishing the organization as a leader in the long-term care industry

Initial Post: Based on the Happy Valley scenario detailed above and the information presented in Chapters 1 and 2 of the course text, construct an initial post in which you

Differentiate between the organization’s stated objectives as to whether they are marketable or non-marketable objectives.
Select the marketable objectives (i.e., those you would recommend developing in a marketing plan), and explain why you consider those objectives marketable.
Explain why the marketing plan objectives should be in line with the objectives in the healthcare organization’s strategic plan.

Be sure to provide concrete examples from the text and from your own research. Each source should be cited and referenced according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..

Guided Response:  Respond to at least two of your classmates’ initial posts. You are encouraged to post your required replies early in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion. Choose one or two specific marketing objectives outlined by your fellow learners and describe the possible positive impact for the organization’s strategic plan. Be sure to support each peer response by citing and referencing at least one scholarly source to validate your assertions. Mountain Standard Time (MST) on Day 7 of the week and respond to anyone who replies to your initial post.

Ashford General Hospital Proposal

Ashford General Hospital is a 263-bed regional hospital located in California, serving its community for more than 50 years. The hospital maintains the only 24-hour emergency department in the area and an “extended hours” urgent care clinic. Similar to other hospitals in the United States, Ashford General Hospital is encountering a nursing shortage. Sixty-eight percent of the nursing staff is over the age of 45, facing retirement. The retention rate on nurses is 61%, compared to 65% nationwide.  Many of the nursing staff find the work too physically demanding and have a feeling of emotional burn-out as well.   In the past two years, the hospital has used both per diem nurses and traveling nurses who sign short-term contracts to fill individual shifts and accommodate short-term staffing needs arising from staff vacations or medical leaves.  This has not only driven up personnel costs but also resulted in lower scores on patient satisfaction surveys. Ashford General Hospital faces significant challenges in nurse staffing ahead as it grapples with these issues, and the hospital board is very concerned. They know there must be some changes made in order to prevent a major financial and human resources crisis in the future. As the newly hired CEO, you are asked to present a proposal in the next board meeting.

For this written assignment, select one recent (within the last two years) evidence-based article from a peer reviewed nursing journal that describes a “best practice” in an area of nursing you are interested in. For example, if you would like to be a pediatric nurse, select an article that discusses a best practice in pediatric care.

Cite the article and provide a brief overview of how the results or findings were obtained. Then describe the “best practice.” Conclude your discussion by explaining whether you thought the research findings supported the conclusions and the best practice.

This assignment must be no more than 3 pages long. It should include all of the required elements. Use APA Editorial format and attach a copy of the article

Prepare two educational handouts (two pages each), one for community members and patients and one for health care providers, that provide information about common bacteria or viruses and how to reduce the risk of infection.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

Preparation

Search the Capella library and the Internet for scholarly and professional peer-reviewed articles on food-borne illness or virus prevention. You will need at least three articles to use as support for your work on this assessment. In addition, look for statistics on cases of food-borne illness or influenza in your community. Sites such as the CDC, WHO, and state or public health departments provide the most current and reliable data.

Directions

Your employer is hosting a Healthy Mind and Body Fair in your community. Your manager has asked for your help in creating educational materials about food-borne illnesses like E.coli or viruses such as influenza. The goal is to provide information about how to reduce the risk of infection. You have been asked to create two informational handouts on the same topic:1.One handout is for participants (community members, patients) that raises awareness about the transmission of common bacteria or viruses and how to prevent the spread of these common infections. Consider health literacy levels when preparing the handout for non-medical populations.2.The second handout is directed at allied health care providers. This material should provide a higher level of information and detail about the subject.

Each handout should cover the following:•Provide information about the illness and transmission.•Provide recent statistics of cases in the community, with sources noted.•Describe the scope of illness (symptoms, severity, adverse outcomes).•Describe both treatment and prevention options, with an emphasis on prevention. •Relay any new research or treatment modalities.•Include information your readers will want to refer to in the future. This includes Web sites or tips for finding additional information or additional resources.

Consider the reader when creating your handouts, and be creative!

Format the handouts as follows:•Break up content into short paragraphs.•Use bullet points and lists whenever possible.•Use sub-headings to isolate different topics within the documents.•Remember, say no more than what is necessary; the urge to say too much can ruin a good handout.

Additional Requirements

Each handout should meet the following criteria:•Contain 500 words (2 pages).•Must be readable, concise, with a logical ordering of ideas.•Include a minimum of three references. (These must be recent, from within the past five years.) The same resources can be used for both handouts.•Provide adequate documentation of ideas and appropriate APA citation of relevant literature.•Assignment submission should include one complete document, prepared as follows: ◦Title page for the participant handout.◦Participant handout.◦Reference page for the participant handout.◦Title page for the allied health care provider handout.◦Allied health care provider handout.◦Reference page for the provider handout.

•Be double spaced in Times New Roman font, 12 point.

# 4 Final Paper/Presentation:The purpose of this assignment is to develop skills for systematically evaluating evidence by researching and analyzing a timely topic in professional nursing. The emphasis of this assignment is on finding accurate, reliable sources, evaluating the sources, and summarizing the findings on how the evidence can inform nursing practice. The final paper/presentation grade is worth 35% of the average of the course final grade. There are three components to this grade worth 35%.

#1 Submission of the topic on 3/6/17 (worth 20%)

#2 Final written paper (worth 40%)

#3 Video Presentation (worth 40%)

The student will receive one final grade that represents all of these assignments.

To begin this assignment, student(s) will select a topic that you find fascinating and want to know more about. The topic or issue should come from areas of nursing research. These websites can help to provide you with timely research topics in nursing:

· National Institute for Nursing Research http://www.ninr.nih.gov/researchandfunding/researchhighlights

· National League for Nursing

http://www.nln.org/professional-development-programs/research/research-priorities-in-nursing-education

· American Nurses Association

http://www.nursingworld.org/MainMenuCategories/ANAMarketplace/ANAPeriodicals/OJIN/JournalTopics

The purpose of the paper is to critically appraise and assess the evidence on a topic that interests you. This is not an assignment where you only summarize the authors’ conclusions. It is a synthesis of the information presented that leads to your conclusion about the topic.

The paper should include at least six peer-reviewed primary research articles from either nursing, biomedical, and/or humanities literature. All references should be recent (i.e., within the past ten years). To help you become familiar with the range of knowledge available in different kinds of nursing journals, try to include references from a general nursing journal, a clinical specialty nursing journal, and a research nursing journal.

The paper should mimic a standard research study and include the following headings. The question(s) in the parenthesis following each heading in the below list is provided as an aid to help guide your writing. The break down for length of each section is only a suggestion.

· IntroductionIntroduce your group topic and its significance (1/2 page)

· BackgroundWhat do we currently know about your topic? (1/2 page)

· Methods How did you search for the studies? What was the inclusion criteria? (1/2 page)

· AnalysisWhat are the purposes of the studies? Are key concepts clearly defined? What are the study designs? What are the samples? What are the outcomes studied? How are the studies similar and/or different and possible reasons why? What are the strengths and the weaknesses of the studies? (1 page for each article)

· Results Based on your analysis, is there strong and convincing evidence regarding your topic? (1/2 page)

· Discussion What do you conclude about this topic? What are the next steps for nursing? (1/2 page)

Paper length can range from 8 to 10 pages excluding title page, abstract, and references.

Question Description

you must complete 4 separate papers. Select the papers from the current peer-reviewed original research literature (nothing before 2016 is acceptable) that uses gene transfer and expression as its major goal (it can be the only goal but doesn’t have to be) in journals like Science, Nature, Cell, Molecular and Cellular Biology, etc. Trade magazines, like BioTechniques, are NOT acceptable for this.

Written paper must include

1. Overall scientific goal(s)

2. Gene being transferred, how and why

3. Vector specifics (such as plasmid, regulatory cassettes, etc)

4. Recipient specifics (what cells and why)

5. Detection of transfer/expression

6. Your suggestions for improvement, or why their approach was the best one for

the goals. (You can’t just say they did a good job. Look critically)

7. Include a photocopy of your selected paper (IT WILL NOT BE RETURNED)Written papers must be word processed and no more than 2 double-spaced pages. Figures or tables may be included as additional pages, but you can also just refer to them in your narrative since a photocopy of the paper will be included. No handwritten assignments will be accepted.
