Critique a Research Article

A critique is a method of displaying a logical and organized analysis of a written or oral piece. Critique can provide the readers with both positive and negative outcomes depending on the author. The purpose of this assignment is for the student to perform a critique on a research article that deals with today’s health issues. In this paper the student must be diligent at what the author are claiming, taking into account the research methods being utilized and look for pros and cons of the researcher’s outcomes.

The assignment must be a minimal of five pages, excluding title page and references. The assignment must be strictly following APA guidelines, points will be deducted if otherwise. Do not use first person throughout the paper until the section called evaluate the paper.  It will be divided in the following manner:

Title page: Give the name of the article, the authors name(s) and your name. Following APPA

                Introduction:

·         Provide an overview of the author’s research problem, research questions and main point including how the author supports his or her point.

·         Explain what the author initial          objectives (hypothesis) and results including the process he or she used to arrive at such conclusion.

Evaluate the Research Methods: in paragraph form answer the following:

·         Does the author provide a literature review?

·         Is the research current and relevant to today existing health issues?

·         Describe the research type utilized?– experimental, non-experimental, quasi experimental, etc.

·         Evaluate the sample (size, composition, or in the way the sample was selected in relation to the purpose of the study? Was the sample appropriate for the research or was it bias?

·          How practicaldoes this work seem to you? How does the author suggest research results could be applied and how do youbelieve they could be applied?

·          Could the study have been improved in your opinion? If so provide how you think it could have improved.

·          Is the writing in the article clear straightforward?

·          Can further research be conducted on this subject? Explain

Conclusion: In your conclusion, try to synthesize the pieces of your critique to emphasize your own main points about the author’s work, relating the researcher’s work to your own knowledge or to topics being discussed in your course.

Reference Page: APA style, see rubric below

Name two different methods for evaluating evidence. Compare and contrast these two methods.

Grant proposal in Public Health economics

Proposals must include a plan for determining the degree to which objectives are met and methods are followed. This section is extremely important as funders pay particular attention to evaluation methods, since they need help determining whether a proposed project represents an intelligent investment for them. The evaluation section should meet the following criteria:

  • Presents a plan for evaluating accomplishment of objectives
  • Presents a plan for evaluating and modifying methods over the course of the program
  • Explains who will be doing the evaluation and how they were chosen
  • Clearly states evaluation criteria
  • Describes how data will be gathered
  • Explains any test instruments or questionnaires to be used
  • Describes the process of data analysis
  • Shows how evaluation will be used for program improvements
  • Describes any evaluation reports to be produced

For this Discussion, keep these evaluation criteria in mind as you review the two grant applications listed in the Learning Resources. Two applications were submitted. Only one can receive the grant funds. Based on the information you have available, and using the evaluation rubric for each grant application, determine which one of the grants you believe should receive funding.

With these thoughts in mind:

Give three reasons why you selected the grant that you choose to fund and two reasons why you chose not to fund the other grant.  Then, briefly explain two grant-writing strategies that you might recommend to improve the unsuccessful proposal.

Question Description

Objective 4: Describe the focus and foundational research of social psychology.

Social psychology is a very interesting field; it is full of applicable and fascinating research that looks at you (and everyone else) from a slightly different perspective. Most students are spell bound by this research and application (as was the world during it’s time of release). For Christians, it’s an outstanding perspective to understanding the events leading us through Holy Week and to the cross. It also helps us understand the inspirational parable of the Good Samaritan. Consider this as you watch video clips for this assignment.

Learning Activity #6: Psychology Term Paper

  • Read Chapter 12 in your textbook.
  • Watch the following videos:
  • Soloman Asch’s conformity study (explained by Philip Zombardo)
  • Milgram’s Obedience Study (allow the Nazi concentration horrors portrayed to bring you understanding and compassion for those who suffered). This is hosted by Milgram himself and contains foreign subtitles, but is in English: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOYLCy5PVgM
  • Zimbaros’s TED talk on the Psychology of Evil:
  • This explains the bystander effect hosted by Zimbardo as well as the application of being an agent of social change: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wW2xszD-zBM
  • Write a five to seven-page double spaced (1250-1750 word) paper not including title page and reference page (no abstract require) that addresses the following:
  • Formatting, including the title and reference pages is to be APA compliant. Use the 6thedition APA template under course documents on the course home page and consult the Paper Writing rubric in your course syllabus. For additional help, access the OWL Purdue APA website, including a sample paper.
  • What is the perspective of social psychology in regards to an individual’s behavior? Discuss the three main areas in about one page (250 words).
  • Discuss the power of group influence, highlighting the research done by Asch and Milgram, in about one page (250 words).
  • Discuss in about one page (250 words), the power of roles and prejudices as seen by social psychologists, highlighting the study done by Zimbardo.
  • Discuss de-individuation, bystander intervention, and altruism in about one page (250 words). Relate these concepts to their presence online, particularly on social media.
  • Describe through the eyes of Social psychology, the events of Holy Week and the Parable of the Good Samaritan in about one page (250 words).
  • Finally, in about half a page (125 words) reflect on the topics discussed Chapter 12 and the video clips. Did anything provoke a strong reaction or epiphany? Focus on how you will apply this information to your everyday life.
  • In addition to your textbook, include two or three additional sources from the Internet. Only use websites that end in .org, .edu. or .gov so you know you are getting trust-worthy information.

Option #1: The Role and Impact of the Health Insurance Market (Paper)

Over the years, the health insurance market has become more competitive and as a result consumers “…have been offered a greater choice in benefits, cost-sharing arrangements, premiums to match their own experience, and types of insurance products” (Feldstein, 2012, p. 242).

For this assignment, prepare an economic analysis brief that describes the role and impact of the health insurance market in the U.S. healthcare industry to demonstrate an understanding of Module 4. Discuss and synthesize key elements from at least two recent scholarly articles (found in the CSU-Global Library) that address one of the following points:

  • Determine the performance of the health insurance industry.
  • Apply economic models, theories, or assumptions.
  • Offer objective methods for attempting to predict future market behavior in response to events, trends, and cycles.
  • Assess economic policy recommendations for healthcare stakeholders.

Your analysis should be thoughtful and thorough, well written, and formatted accordingly:

  • Title page
  • Introduction – What is the topic, why is it important, and what are the objectives of your brief?
  • Body – What are the key elements of the scholarly articles that support the objectives of your brief? What economic models or concepts apply?
  • Conclusion – What are the future implications, policy recommendations, etc.?
  • Reference page

Your paper should be 3 to 4 pages in length

Discussion: The Systems Development Life Cycle and the Nurse Informaticist

The systems development life cycle (SDLC) is a model for planning and implementing change within an organization. It is important for many individuals to be represented in the process, especially the end users of the system or the employees who must live with the change. As informatics become more and more widespread throughout the health care field, collaboration between information technology (IT) professionals and health care practitioners is becoming increasingly important. The nurse informaticist is able to combine the perspective of the information technology side with the clinical nursing perspective.

While the titles and specific responsibilities of nurse informaticists vary across organizations and practice settings, the fundamental purpose of the role remains the same. Nurse informaticists synthesize their knowledge of how technology can improve health care with an understanding of clinical practice and workflow. This is why nurse informaticists can be instrumental in facilitating the SDLC for informatics in health care. For this Discussion, you examine the relationship between the nurse informaticist and the use of the SDLC.

To prepare:

  • Review the information in this week’s Learning Resources on the SDLC and the role of the nurse informaticist. Reflect on Chapter 1 of the Dennis, Wixom, and Roth course text and consider how the information about the systems analyst role translates into nursing and health care.
  • Consider a recent change in your organization related to the implementation of a new technology or system. How was this change handled? What was the general SDLC process? Who was involved, and what were the outcomes?
  • Identify whether your organization (or one with which you are familiar) has a formal title or position for the nurse informaticist. This position may be called by a different name, such as nurse informatics specialist or informatics analyst, so be sure to review the position description.
  • If your organization has a position for the nurse informaticist, what are the responsibilities of that position? If your organization does not have such a position, conduct research in the Walden Library and at credible online sources on the role of the nurse informaticist.
  • Reflect on the role of the nurse informaticist in the overall health care field. How is this position connected to the SDLC? Assess the benefits of having this specialized position within health care organizations and involving the nurse informaticist in the SDLC.  Post by tomorrow 8/30/16 550 words in APA format with a minimum of 3 references from the list provided under Required Readings. Apply the level 1 headings as numbered below:1) A description of how the systems development life cycle is utilized in your organization (Hospital), or in one with which you are familiar, and assess its effectiveness. 2)  Assess the role of the nurse informaticist in your organization. If the nurse informaticist is not a current position within your organization, provide a description of the generally accepted role of the nurse informaticist based on this week’s Learning Resources and your own research. 3)  Explain why it is important for the nurse informaticist to be involved in the SDLC process and the overall organizational benefits of having such involvement.    Required Readings Dennis, A., Wixom, B. For this assessment you will need to choose an illness or health need for which there is an increasing burden of disease when compared to several generations ago (such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, dementia, chronic pain, cancer).
Explore the nature and extent of the health need’s impact upon the Australian health care system, health economy and nursing (has this lead to specialist nurses? Or a new type of nurse? Has the nursing role changed in this area over the last 100 years?). Consider changes to health care delivery or health care policy which have met the impact of the increasing need, and the influence this has had on society.
Examine the role of nurses with the key role for providing interventions for those with your chosen health need, and discuss their key competencies with reference to the NMBA Standards for Practice for registered nurses. Explore professional organisations available to support registered nurses in their practice, and how their practice/role differs from other members of the health care team in supporting people with your chosen health care need.
Finally, elaborate on your paper by discussing your expectations for how this area of nursing will look in 2050. Consider factors such as the predicted nursing shortage in Australia, the aging population, predicted number of people with your chosen health condition (and their disease burden) and social and political factors.
In-text appropriate academic references are required throughout the work. A list of references in APA format is required at the conclusion of the essay (minimum 8 references).
