3] Is Wikipedia a reliable source for college papers – and why or why not?

4] What does it mean if a source of information you are using is “peer reviewed”, and why is this good?

5] Why might you want to question the reliabillity of a source that is self-published?

11] I am worried about how much red meat my husband eats. He goes to a website for the National Beef Counciland tells me not to worry because the website clearly states that eating red meat is great for one’s health. Should I be convinced – and why or why not?

Peer response: need 1 reference with in text citation, minimum 100 words for each

Education in family planning, promoting rights to birth control is what nurse activist Margaret Sanger devoted her entire life to. Her devotion caused her to be jailed for distributing contraceptives to immigrant women from a clinic (Nickitas, Middaugh & Aries, 2014). Margaret Sanger was a nurse that worked in poverty stricken neighborhoods where she could provide education to woman regarding their rights to birth control, family planning and the importance of using contraceptives to decrease unwanted pregnancies. She had many people working with her to help spread the word for woman’s rights. The Arkansas Nurses association held a convention to help nurses gain awareness for education, gain knowledge on nursing theory and help promote professional growth and development (Arkansas Nurses Association, 2014).

The policy can change when it passes through legislation and decided by the elected officials enact it into law. Nurses can help improve the decision-making process by working outside the government by forming coalitions to influence the decision-making process (Nickitas, Middaugh & Aries, 2014). Nurses should advocate for patients by using their critical thinking skills when trying to influence within the organization.

A policy that need advocating for is nursing staff shortages. Patients seem to be more critical when being admitted to the hospital. With short staff it becomes difficult to care for patients the way they deserve. Patients have rights when it comes to receiving care, receiving quality effective care is important to positive health outcomes. Patient safety is compromised with every shift that is short staffed. Many errors occur when nurses must work shorthanded (Westrick, 2014).

When trying to influence policy changes or making policies it is important to understand the interest groups, their influence, and the stakeholders involved (Mund, 2012). The policy framework is the identification of the problem and the causes of the problem (Weston, Brewer, & Peterson, 2012). When an idea is thought for the problem then it is added to an agenda. Elected officials then decide on policies through a legislative process (Nickitas, Middaugh, & Aries, 2016). Then the policy can be implemented as an extension of the policy creation and process.

Nurse Sanger did not want any more women dying from illegal abortions. She started to organize protests to bring attention to the issue and health care inequality women were receiving (Nickitas, Middaugh, & Aries, 2016). This was challenging given the time in history this was taking place. Given the time in history she would have to make compelling arguments for women and birth control (Nickitas, Middaugh, & Aries, 2016). A turning point was when Nurse Sager was arrested in 1917 for distributing contraceptives to immigrant women from a clinic while demanding for services for the poor that are given to the middle class (Nickitas, Middaugh, & Aries, 2016). Her intentions were to shed more light on reproductive services and women’s rights. It worked, physicians were able to prescribe contraceptives and freestanding facilities were built (Nickitas, Middaugh, & Aries, 2016). In 1936 Nurse Sanger won a federal court decision allowing physicians to import contraceptives using the federal mail system (Nickitas, Middaugh, & Aries, 2016). She continued to shape public health initiatives. She lobbied men, women, organizations, and businesses for public health and birth control (Nickitas, Middaugh, & Aries, 2016). She spread her word through writing books and giving lectures across the world. She lobbied at the state legislators for women’s health clinics (Nickitas, Middaugh, & Aries, 2016). She coined the terms birth control and family planning. In 1952 she expanded to London and founded the International Planned Parenthood Federation (Nickitas, Middaugh, & Aries, 2016). Before her death she was able to see many achievements for family planning.

  • What were the cultural dilemmas for the nurse, patient, or family?
  • How can the nurse assist the patient or family in making decisions about medical care?

Please separate each questions answer so: Question 1: answer and references, Question 2: answer and references

250-300 WORDS 2 SCHOLARLY REFERENCES (PREFER NURSING JOURNALS-ALL WITHIN 5 YEARS) EACH QUESTION. APA FORMAT, INTEXT CITATIONS ARE REQUIRED-REFERENCES MUST MATCH IN TEXT CITATIONS AND VICE-VERSA!! The bulk of a posting or assignment needs to be original thought (at least 75%) supported by a reference.

Question 1:

After reviewing the resources in the Weekly Guide/Week 2, identify a clinical problem within the nurse’s practice setting related to patient care. Develop a research question utilizing the PICO format (SEE ATTACHED). Determine how the research question could guide the nurse’s search of the literature to address the issue to implement a change in practice. Explain the benefits to interprofessional research collaboration to improve patient health outcomes.

Capstone Project Milestone 1:

Practice Issue and Evidence Summary Guidelines

Purpose

Clear identification of the practice issue is the first step in evidence-based nursing. Next, the evidence is reviewed to determine the best intervention to change practice outcomes. Completion of the milestone will include identification of the practice issue using the ACE Star model of Knowledge Transformation and a review of the evidence that will support an intervention that will change outcomes. The evidence summary will be conducted through the ‘breaking down’ of a systematic review on your topic for your change project.

Course Outcomes

This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:

• CO4: Develops and outlines a scientific, systematic decision-making process to integrate critical thinking with clinical judgment to assure safe and effective outcomes. (PO #4)

• CO8: Selects evidence for best practice when planning professional nursing care for individuals, families, aggregates, and communities. (PO #8)

Due Dates

Milestone #1 consists of the completion of two worksheets (Practice Issue Worksheet) and (Evidence Summary Worksheet). Submit the completed worksheets to the Dropbox by Sunday, 11:59 p.m. MT at the end of Week 3.

Points

Milestone #1 is worth 175 points (75 points for the Practice Issue and 100 points for the Evidence Summary).

Clinical question

“The thoughtful development of a well-structured EBP question is important because the question drives the strategies used to search for evidence”. (Dearholt & Dang, 2012, p.64). My question is: Will Congestive Heart Failure patients discharged from the hospital increase the chance of not being readmitted within 30 days with follow up care that includes post discharge telephone calls for support?

P- (Patient, Population)-Congestive Heart Failure Patients

I-(Intervention)-Follow up phone call at 48 and 72 hours post discharge

C-(Comparison with current practice)-No follow up telephone calls for support.

O-(Desired outcome)-Reduce the number of Readmissions

Review the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report: “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health,” focusing on the following sections: Transforming Practice, Transforming Education, and Transforming Leadership.

Write a paper of 750-1,000 words about the impact on nursing of the 2010 IOM report on the Future of Nursing. In your paper, include:

  1. The impact of the IOM report on nursing education.
  2. The impact of the IOM report on nursing practice, particularly in primary care, and how you would change your practice to meet the goals of the IOM report.
  3. The impact of the IOM report on the nurse’s role as a leader.

Cite a minimum of three references.

Option 1: Integration of Healthcare Integration of health service organisation and delivery is being seen as part of the solution to sustaining health systems the world over. Integrated care involves the provision of seamless, effective and efficient care that reflects the whole of a person’s health needs; from prevention through to end of life, across both physical and mental health, and in partnership with the individual, carers and families. An integration activity or initiative may involve a part or several parts of this continuum.Integration activities, in services and systems, focuses on an individual’s needs, communication and connection and activities between health care providers across the care system continuum – hospitals; community health; aged and social care; primary care etc., with importance and recognition given to access and equity and services proximal to communities. In this iBrief exercise we are interested in a broad concept of integrated health services and system (as opposed to specific service integration (e.g. medication management in the community); health management approaches (e.g. behavioural and mental health in children) etc.).For this iBrief task, you are asked to develop a brief for the Board of an area health service organisation that sets out three key aspects associated with integration of health services or systems: the contemporary understanding or definition of what integrated care means; an understanding and use of structural models or frameworks that are used to support thinking and planning around integration; and what are some key principles or issues in relation to successfully integrating healthcare systems which might be considered or used by the Board to assist with integration planning and activities.Option 2: Outcomes Funding Mechanisms At a recent presentation, the Director General for Health set out that there needs to be a renewed focus and understanding on the future of clinical outcomes funding mechanisms. Health organisations and facilities (in all three sectors: public, private and NGO) may receive funding based on single or multiple criteria such as activity, service type, case mix etc. In this brief you are asked to prepare an overview defining and describing clinical outcomes funding models or approaches; where fully or in part, clinical outcomes are used at present nationally and internationally; and what are the key system, service settings, research and operational issues that need to be considered around implementing funding or payment allocations using clinical outcomes as a driver in those funding mechanisms.Option 3: Technology and Procurement Strategies In health services the term ‘technology’ can refer to a range of things including biomedical equipment; drug and pharma therapies; models of care; medical and surgical procedures etc. A significant part of the costs and health economics of health system is major capital technology – technology that has high individual unit cost; has a long lifecycle; generally refers to plant and equipment used in health service delivery. In this brief you should research and summarise an agreed understanding of what is major capital technology and what are the optimal health technology management strategies used throughout the world. From your research develop an effective planning, procurement and management outline (or approach) for optimal management of major capital technology in health organisations and health services.
