I watched the recording of the “New Learner Orientation” this week. I had previous knowledge of the required 2,000 supervision hours, but have not completed a plan for acquiring them. Currently, I have two options I am considering. One get a virtual supervisor to gain hours while teaching in a preschool classroom for children with disabilities or two work for an ABA clinic as an RBT to gain supervision hours. I have previously liked the option of gaining hours within an ABA clinic, as I would gain experience in a non-classroom setting. This experience is important to me because I am not quiet sure I want to remain in the school system as a classroom teacher or BCBA. However, being a classroom teacher with a family does not leave me with a lot of downtime to take on a part-time job working ABA. I do not intend to acquire supervision hours until summer of 2021; allowing me the time to get my RBT certification and take on a part-time job. Ideally having a supervisor through an ABA clinic and a virtual supervisor to acquire hours while teaching would be the best-case scenario. I was unaware that multiple supervisors were allowed until watching the “New Learner Orientation” recording. To accrue unrestricted fieldwork hours I can collect data, complete functional behavior assessments, and train staff on behavior programs. All activities I am currently responsible for within my classroom. A second key take away is creating an account even though I am not currently completing hours. Last, Julianne Lasley explained the fieldwork tracker provided through the BACB website is not turned in monthly. It is used to track our hours and we would only need to show it if the BACB requested them.
Currently the biggest barrier I am facing involves time; how do I teach and take care of a child while gaining fieldwork hours? I am also reevaluating my overall goal for obtaining my BCBA. As I work with more pre-school age students and families, I find myself very interested in parent and community training. Especially giving parents the skills to set up a routine and expectations within a home environment that accommodates all members of the family. I am also interested in further educating my community members and businesses; especially daycares. It is unfortunate and heartbreaking when parents share experiences that involve their child being kicked out of a program. Overall, I will remain in the classroom setting for three more years while my son is in elementary school and I am completing my degree.

I did attend the new learner orientation and I learned a great deal. I plan on doing my field work at a local organization called Beyond Expectations. Once I start my hours hopefully in January, I will then get in contact with somebody who is certified to help me obtain my hours.I will get as many hours in a month as I can I do have a full-time jobso it will be all my days off but I will do everything I can to make sure that I have all my hours in time for me to take the exam when the time comes. I chose this location because of the values that they have and the standards that they hold not only for themselves but for their clients as well they also do work with children and adults with autism which is helpful to me because my wife has autism and we will go through them when we do get her officially tested. Based on the new learner orientation one of the ways that you can incur unrestricted Field hours is to be supervised by somebody that is not certified to supervise so I will make sure that whoever is supervising me has taken the required courses necessary to be certified to be a supervisor so that I will not incur any unrestricted hours.
there are many things that I learned during the new learner orientation. The first thing that stood out to me was not only does Capella have resources but the board certified behavior analyst site has a number of resources as well that I can utilize and will utilize when I do my field work as well as when I am working in the field. The second thing that I learned was there’s a right way to get hours and a wrong way to get hours and to make sure that whoever is supervising me is certified so that I do not have to repeat any hours. The third thing that I took away from the new learner orientation was it I just need to have my hours completed by the time I’m ready to take exam not necessarily the end of my program. This is a weight lifted off my shoulders for me because I do have a full-time job and more than likely will not be working full-time in the field of ABA until after I’ve taken the exam and passed.
The only barrier that I can foresee is me having difficulty with the test for certification. I am a horrible test taker I have severe test anxiety and have had test anxiety for years I do my best to focus on the test but a lot of times my nerves get the better of me which has resulted in me failing first attempts.

Discussion Post -Integration of Evidence-Based Practice Into Professional Nursing Practice

As the professional nurse, you realize that your nursing care area often sees patients with the same particularly challenging nursing care issue (not medical care issue). Include all of the following in your answer to this discussion.

  • Identify the nursing care issue or problem and justify why it is a nursing care issue in need of implementation of evidence. Remember, this should not be a medical issue.
  • Explain how you would search CINAHL for evidence on this topic (including search terms you would use) and how you would critically appraise the evidence found in your search. Note: You do not need to perform the search or provide an article for this discussion, but you may do so if you like.

Mini-Case –  Transfer of Training
Read the following mini case and answer the questions that follow:
Organizational Profile
Southern Credit Union operates in more than 10 medium-sized cities in a southeastern state. As a credit union, Southern is owned by their members who save and borrow money through the institution. A portion of the union’s profits is returned to members in various ways, including lower interest rates, lower fees and higher dividends on savings accounts.  Southern’s front-line tellers provide routine banking services inside the credit union and at drive-through locations. Most front-line tellers are women, although the position has become more diversified recently. The New Accounts Department meets potential members to discuss the features of Southern’s savings and checking accounts. The Mortgage Services Department provides mortgage options for home loans. The Investment Services Department has financial advisors who meet with members to discuss alternative investment strategies and options for growing their money. Credit union members are a diverse group in terms of racial demographics, age and gender.
Key Issues
The president of Southern Credit Union, Tom Jenkins, is relatively new; in fact, there have been three different presidents over the last six years. Not surprisingly, camaraderie has been lacking among managers, employees and the ever-changing leadership team. After meeting with the board of directors and in anticipation of an upcoming audit from the National Credit Union Administration, Jenkins decides that Southern needs to revisit its sexual harassment policy and procedures and determine when the last training session was held.  Jenkins meets with the HR director, Pamela Sanchez, and the training analyst, Heather Blackburn. They decide the sexual harassment policy is sufficient but realize that there has been no sexual harassment training in four years. Blackburn, who has been focusing on customer service training, is told by Jenkins to “make this happen by the end of next month.”
Training Staff
Heather Blackburn has been a training analyst for only five months. She graduated with a B.A. in communications 15 years ago; after graduation she worked as a bank teller at a regional bank. She moved to Southern Credit Union as a bank teller because the pay was higher and the credit union had a good regional reputation. Blackburn was a bank teller at Southern for eight years, then applied for an internal transfer to the training job because she liked working with people and thought the job would be interesting. She joined the local American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) chapter last month to learn about the training profession in general and specific training methods. She reports to the HR director, Pamela Sanchez.
Activities to Enhance Learning
Design of the Sexual Harassment Training
Jenkins’ request doesn’t give Blackburn much time to develop and conduct the sexual harassment training. She decides to train first-line supervisors, since they are most closely involved in the front-line employee interactions. She doesn’t have time to meet with anyone to get this training designed, so she sketches out a two-hour lecture. She wants to cover Southern’s sexual harassment policy, the complaint procedure, and some recent court cases (gathered from the Employment Law Information Network) as examples of quid pro quo versus hostile work environment harassment. She creates handouts for trainees and schedules training off-site for 50 Southern supervisors to minimize distractions from their branch locations.  Three days before the training, Blackburn has all her lecture notes (in PowerPoint) prepared, handouts copied and the training room ready. She e-mails first-line supervisors about the mandatory training, tells them about the objectives of the training and gives them directions to the off-site training location.
The Training
As the supervisors enter the training room, they seem confused about the late notification of this training. As they talk among themselves, they wonder if one of the employees filed a sexual harassment complaint. Blackburn covers all the material she has prepared. She doesn’t get a chance to ask for questions at the end of the session, but tells the supervisors to e-mail her with any questions they have about the material and reinforces her willingness to ensure they understood the information. Blackburn feels good about her organization and preparedness, and feels like the two-hour lecture was successful. The supervisors leave quickly to get back to their branch locations; some have several hours to drive and much to handle when they return to their jobs.
Report on the Training
Blackburn happily reports back to Jenkins and Sanchez with her perceptions of how the first-line supervisor training went.  Blackburn reiterates how she met Jenkins’ deadline, recounts the process she used to develop the training, and shows them the training materials and handouts. Blackburn plans to e-mail the supervisors in six weeks to remind them of key learning points and to see if they have any questions about the sexual harassment concepts, once they consider their own workplace situations. She will also ask them to rate their satisfaction with the training via a short e-mail survey.  Jenkins is satisfied because he can tell the audit team that the training took place. The HR director, though, is quiet during the meeting; she wonders whether this effort was well executed and is concerned about the ultimate effectiveness of the training.

Discussion Questions to Accompany Mini-Case
Question: How was transfer supported or not supported in this organization before training?
Question: How was transfer supported or not supported in this organization during training?

The Dynamics of Public Policy in America

Public policy is a goal-oriented course of action that the government follows in dealing with a problem or issue in the country. Public policies are based on law, but many people other than legislators set them. Individuals, groups, and even government agencies all play a part in the policy-making process, and they can bring about some positive, some negative, and often unintended impacts and outcomes.

How you would define sustainability?click here for more information on this paper

Sustainability can be defined as being capable of being continued with minimal long-term effect on the environment. This idea of longevity is often broken down into the “three pillars” of social, environmental and economic sustainability. Sustainability can impact all the areas of operation within a company including manufacturing, distribution, development, and support functions. All entities including employees, supply chain partners, customers, investors and stakeholders involved in a company’s operations should understand the importance of achieving and establishing sustainability. Creating a successful sustainability and implementation strategy is an important factor to a company’s financial success. Sustainability is about looking after things now, so our future generations can enjoy it later. Sustainability is also concerned with relationships and how the different aspects of the earth system unite in order to best work together.

Your personal views on sustainability.

An increased growth of industrial activities in the past has led to natural resources being depleted at a rate that is faster than the rate of restoration. There is also a growing recognition that the effects of climate change will continue to drive up the cost and the demand for health services around the world. Rising temperatures will increase the need for the use of air conditioning; rising sea levels will put coastal hospitals at risk of flooding; changing weather patterns and damaging natural disasters will increase demands for services.  If this trend continues, most of the admired companies will be forced to close. Growth of businesses will always be dependent on the resources available. And if there are no resources, there really will be no business to do anywhere. Sustainability is crucial for financial success, and if not followed correctly could cause legal trouble, impact stock prices, impact sales and ability to continue to produce products, and even the ultimate downfall of a corporation. Companies that do implement sustainability into their operations have to continue to improve their processes and practices to grow in their “do good” commitments.

How you think sustainability fits within health care?

Climate change, loss of biodiversity, material inequality, overpopulation, and resource depletion all have an impact on how health care organizations are managed and organized. These issues have led to numerous health care crises such as increased chronic disease diagnoses, increasing costs to provide health care, increased carbon use, and, in some cases, a lack of compassion. From an economical stand point the organization is tapping into a booming market (going green market) that will translate into profits. People are leaning towards products for the mere fact that an organization is doing its part to preserve the environment, which also makes them feel socially responsible by purchasing these products. From a social standpoint, the organization is providing a positive influence for other companies as well as consumers to follow suit in terms of being sustainable. Applying sustainability into any health care organization can save money, improve health outcomes, decrease carbon use and improve our environment. As a result of environmental changes, the health sector is facing an unprecedented scale of change that will require public, private and non-governmental organizations to come together to identify and develop innovative solutions in order to make available resources work harder towards creating a sustainable model of health.
