We are working toward the final paper in week 9. This week we will compile the research for that final paper in what is called an annotated bibliography.
For this assignment, submit an annotated bibliography in APA format.
Your final Annotated Bibliography will have 7 sources listed.  Of those,

  • at least 3 will be academic journal article sources, retrieved from the school or a public library
  • at least 2 will be book-length, either physical books or ebooks from the Library or online
  • at least 2 will be an online media source, such as a YouTube video, podcast, or interactive presentation

Submit this assignment with a cover page in APA format, double spaced, 12 pt. times new roman. The reference for each annotation should be in APA format. The annotations for each reference should be at least 150 words.
An annotated bibliography provides specific information about each source you have used. As a researcher, you have become an expert on your topic and have the ability both to explain the content and to assess the usefulness of your sources for those not in the know. Think of your paper as part of a conversation with others interested in the same things you are; the annotated bibliography allows you to tell readers what to check out, what might be worth checking out in some situations, and what might not be worth spending the time on. It’s kind of like providing a list of good movies for your classmates to watch and then going over the list with them, telling them why this movie is better than that one or why one student in your class might like a particular movie better than another student would. You want to give your audience enough information to understand basically what the movies are about and to make an informed decision about where to spend their money based on their interests” (“Annotated Bibliography”).

Based on the feedback you received on your submission from last week, submit a revised draft of your paper with this additional information:

  1. Five additional references that could be used for your research paper and include a 1-2 sentence description for each of the five additional references, explaining how they fit with the research topic and the research question proposed. Make sure that these references come from scholarly sources using Argosy’s library resources.
  2. A  very detailed outline of what you would like to cover in the intro/lit review of your paper. Write it as an outline and think about what you want each paragraph or section to cover. Paste your references into each section where the information from that article applies to the topic. Below is an example of the outline although the references have not been pasted in yet:
    1. Introduction or Statement of the Problem (e.g. Predictors of Depression in Men)
      1. Research question (E.g. What factors predict depression in men? For example, age, marital status, family history, stressors).
      2. Why is it important/implications  (E.g. xx% of men are depressed; less likely to seek treatment; if we can identify who is at risk, may be able to direct them to treatment sooner)
      3. Revised hypothesis based on feedback from the instructor
    2. Review of the Literature (the following is an example for above topic):
      1. Brief description of depression, symptoms, and any unique symptoms for men (Cite articles from which you will obtain this information).
      2. How widespread is it? Stats on depression in general but also stats on depression in men (Cite articles from which you will obtain this information).
      3. List factors that put men at risk for depression (Cite articles).
        1. Difficulty communicating distress or sadness (Cite articles).
        2. Job/work pressures (Cite articles).
      4. Demographic characteristics (Cite articles).
        1. Relationship between age and depression (Cite articles).
        2. Relationship between marital status and depression (Cite articles).
  3. A 1-2 page description of the sample you would like to use for your study, that provides the answer to the following questions:
    1. What sampling technique would you use?
    2. Does the sample generalize to the population? Explain why or why not.
    3. What inclusion criteria would be used? What exclusion criteria would be used, if any?
    4. What ethical issues might be encountered when collecting your information from this sample?
  4. Be sure to also submit all your ten references (the five from last week and the five new ones you added) in an APA-style reference page. Be sure to also include an APA-style title page with your submission. Your paper should be at least 2-3 pages long. Make sure you write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

There are 7 questions. 1 answer page per question and 3 references per answer.

Assignment 1: Business Models
Due Week 3 and worth 100 points
What is the best business model for the small business or startup you have chosen? In one page, outline at least three different business models and then select the best model for your business. Then, give a short statement explaining why this is the best model. Remember, you will take feedback from all submitted portions of your plan, revise, and then submit the final business plan in Week 9.
Write a one (1) page outline in which you:
Briefly describe three different business models.
Select the best business model for your business.
Create a short statement explaining why the business model you have chosen is the best model for your business. Give at least three supporting facts for your choice.
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
This course requires use of new Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different than other Strayer University courses. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for details.
Typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, your name, your professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.

Use the following Case Scenario, Subjective Data, and Objective Data to answer the Critical Thinking Questions.
Case Scenario
Mrs. J. is a 63-year-old woman who has a history of hypertension, chronic heart failure, and sleep apnea. She has been smoking two packs of cigarettes a day for 40 years and has refused to quit. Three days ago, she had an onset of flu with fever, pharyngitis, and malaise. She has not taken her antihypertensive medications or her medications to control her heart failure for 4 days. Today, she has been admitted to the hospital ICU with acute decompensated heart failure.
Subjective Data

Is very anxious and asks whether she is going to die.
Denies pain but says she feels like she cannot get enough air.
Says her heart feels like it is “running away.”
Reports that she is so exhausted she cannot eat or drink by herself.

Objective Data

Height 175 cm; Weight 95.5 kg
Vital signs: T 37.6 C, HR 118 and irregular, RR 34, BP 90/58
Cardiovascular: Distant S1, S2, S3 present; PMI at sixth ICS and faint; all peripheral pulses are 1+; bilateral jugular vein distention; initial cardiac monitoring indicates a ventricular rate of 132 and atrial fibrillation
Respiratory: Pulmonary crackles; decreased breath sounds right lower lobe; coughing frothy blood-tinged sputum; SpO2 82%
Gastrointestinal: BS present: hepatomegaly 4 cm below costal margin

Critical Thinking Questions
What nursing interventions are appropriate for Mrs. J. at the time of her admission? Drug therapy is started for Mrs. J. to control her symptoms. What is the rationale for the administration of each of the following medications?

IV furosemide (Lasix)
Enalapril (Vasotec)
Metoprolol (Lopressor)
IV morphine sulphate (Morphine)

Describe four cardiovascular conditions that may lead to heart failure and what can be done in the form of medical/nursing interventions to prevent the development of heart failure in each condition.
Taking into consideration the fact that most mature adults take at least six prescription medications, discuss four nursing interventions that can help prevent problems caused by multiple drug interactions in older patients. Provide rationale for each of the interventions you recommend.

HOW WOULD YOU DECIDE THE BEST WAY TO HONOR A PATIENT’S AUTONOMY IN A NURSING HOME AND WHAT WILL YOU DECIDE?

Scenario 1
The rising number of uninsured patients has led to an increased reliance on the hospital emergency room for routine nonemergency care.  EMTALA ensures patients’ access to the emergency room of any hospital, regardless of patients’ insurance status or their ability to pay.  Using the South University Online library or the Internet, read about EMTALA.  You can search for this act by using the keyword, “EMTALA” and respond to the following question:

  • How do the law and the medical profession’s code of ethics impact those individuals who seek care from emergency departments for reasons other than those that are truly emergencies?

Scenario 2
Autonomy is one of the most important ethical principles discussed in long-term care.  Often, autonomy is in danger of being sacrificed when a patient is in need of a higher level of care.  Imagine you are part of the staff at the local nursing home.  The administrator has asked you and a group of other employees to discuss the principle of autonomy and how it can be aplied to the nursing home setting.  As a staff member, answer the following questions:

  • How would you decide the best way to honor a patient’s autonomy in a nursing home and what will you deide?
  • How would you handle differences of opinion in the group as you try to come to a consensus on the best way to preserve autonomy?

Discussion
What is the difference between clinical significance and statistical significance? How might these concepts be applied to program evaluation? Give an example of an instance in which you might be torn between two types of significance in the reported results of research. What are some other types of statistical evaluations that help to sort out the true significance of clinical research findings? Provide at least two scholarly references for your discussion and justifications.
This discussion question meets the following CACREP Standards:
2.F.8.f. Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed research methods.
2.F.8.g. Designs used in research and program evaluation.

PICOT Question and Nursing Theory Applied to Research
In NR 500, you developed a PICOT question. Select a nursing theory that you find useful in nursing practice. Discuss each of the following selected elements of the PICOT format by applying your selected nursing theory to the element. Be sure to include a scholarly reference.

Intervention: Does your selected nursing theory identify a possible intervention? If not, how is your selected intervention consist with your selected nursing theory?
Outcome: How would the outcome of your PICOT study contribute to your selected nursing theory? Would it add new information? Would it confirm some part of the theory?

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read the Cohen, et al. (2013) and Wu, et al. (2007) articles and review the Evaluating Mental Health Patients and HumanMetrics Jung Typology Test websites.

For this discussion, you will be taking on the role of the intake counselor at a mental health facility. In this role, you will facilitate the evaluation of a client based on clinical personality assessments, mental status exam, and observations of the client to make recommendations to the treatment team consisting of the clinical psychologist, counselors, and case manager for the client. Carefully review Week Two Counseling-Based Personality Assessment Scenario .

In your initial post, examine the personality assessment instrument used in the scenario and research a peer-reviewed article in the Ashford University Library on this personality assessment. Using the required articles and websites as well as your researched article to support your statements, describe the standard use of this personality assessment. Based on the scenario, evaluate the reliability, validity, and cultural considerations inherent to the personality assessment used and comment on the relevance of these elements within the scenario. Analyze and describe some of the potential ethical issues which might arise from the use of this personality assessment in the given scenario. Provide information from your research regarding the use of the personality measure, and assess the value of other possible instruments that could be added to create a more complete assessment of the client in the scenario.
