Policy Position PowerPoint Presentation

Overview

Select one of the following topics for this assignment:

  • What are globalization’s effects on wages and inequality, on social safety nets, on production, and on innovation?
  • How does globalization affect relations between developed countries and developing countries?
  • How does globalization affect democracy?

Be sure that your selected topic has a clear division of opinion and is arguable with facts and inductive reasoning. Use the Internet or Strayer databases to conduct research on your topic. Look for informative resources, as well as statistical ones.
The purpose of a policy position presentation is to generate support for an issue. It describes a position on an issue and the rationale for that position. In writing about this issue, you must examine your opinion of the issue critically. Prior to creating your policy position presentation, define and limit your issue carefully. Use the Internet or Strayer databases to research your issue thoroughly. Consider feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and political or social climate when evaluating possible solutions and courses of action.

Instructions

Include the following sections in your policy position presentation:

  • Introduction (identification of the issue and statement of the position).
  • Body (supporting research and presentation of both sides of the issue).
  • Conclusion (summarize the main issue and suggest policy actions or alternatives).

Create a 7–10 slide presentation in which you do the following:

  1. Provide a brief overview of your selected issue.
  2. Use statistical evidence to support your position, and validate your position with peer-reviewed references.
  3. Examine the major strengths and major weaknesses of each issue.
  4. Identify the stakeholders.
  5. Evaluate the effectiveness of two possible solutions and suggest two courses of action.
  6. Supply a narrative in the Notes section of each information slide describing what you would say if you were presenting in person.
  7. Provide at least three reliable, relevant, peer-reviewed references that support the presentation’s claims.

This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

Q2

Discussion 5.2: Nursing Home Compare

Go to the Medicare.gov website (http://www.medicare.gov/) and search under the Quality Care Finder for Nursing Home Compare – type in your zip code (76549)Detail the results you found for 5 nursing facilities in your area and how they compared based on the overall rating, health inspections, staffing, and quality measures. Do you believe this an accurate snapshot comparing facilities in your area? Would this information impact where you might place a loved one if he/she needed skilled nursing care? How do you think this tool would impact quality improvement within nursing facilities?

In 5- to 7-pages, discuss the following:

1.The impact of changing legal and regulatory environments on public health practice. Consider specific changes to health policy and law in recent years and explore how such changes will impact the practice of public health. Be sure to assess impacts to health status, financial implications, ethics, sustainability, etc.

2.The advantages and disadvantages of collaboration among public health organizations. Consider how working with individuals from different backgrounds may prove valuable, while simultaneously challenging; approximately three to five pros and three to five cons should be discussed.

 3. The perspectives on the benefits, costs, and burdens of public health programs. Consider current views (patient, provider, government, etc.) of public health and its worth to the healthcare system. Comment on the difference in cost (monetary and otherwise) and benefits associated with healthcare systems that promote  prevention.

NOTE: Your paper should incorporate published evidence to support your discussion of ethics and law in public health, multidisciplinary strategies in public health, and perceptions of public health initiatives.

Reflect on the concepts of informatics and knowledge work as presented in the Resources. Consider a hypothetical scenario based on your own healthcare practice or organization that would require or benefit from the access/collection and application of data. Your scenario may involve a patient, staff, or management problem or gap.

1. In this Discussion, you will consider a scenario that would benefit from access to data and how such access could facilitate both problem-solving and knowledge formation.

To Prepare:

Reflect on the concepts of informatics and knowledge work as presented in the Resources.

Consider a hypothetical scenario based on your own healthcare practice or organization that would require or benefit from the access/collection and application of data. Your scenario may involve a patient, staff, or management problem or gap.

Part 2:

Assignment: The Nurse Leader as Knowledge Worker

The term “knowledge worker” was first coined by management consultant and author Peter Drucker in his book, The Landmarks of Tomorrow (1959). Drucker defined knowledge workers as high-level workers who apply theoretical and analytical knowledge, acquired through formal training, to develop products and services. Does this sound familiar?

Nurses are very much knowledge workers. What has changed since Drucker’s time are the ways that knowledge can be acquired. The volume of data that can now be generated and the tools used to access this data have evolved significantly in recent years and helped healthcare professionals (among many others) to assume the role of knowledge worker in new and powerful ways.

In this Assignment, you will consider the evolving role of the nurse leader and how this evolution has led nurse leaders to assume the role of knowledge worker. You will prepare a presentation with an info graphic to educate others on the role of nurse as knowledge worker.

Reference: Drucker, P. (1959). The landmarks of tomorrow. New York, NY: HarperCollins Publishers.

To Prepare:

Review the concepts of informatics as presented in the Resources.

Reflect on the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.

Consider how knowledge may be informed by data that is collected/accessed.

The Assignment:

Explain the concept of a knowledge worker.

Define and explain nursing informatics and highlight the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.

Develop a simple infographic to help explain these concepts.

NOTE: For guidance on infographics, including how to create one in PowerPoint, see “How to Make an Infographic in PowerPoint” as presented in the Resources.

Present the hypothetical scenario you originally shared in the Discussion Forum. Include your examination of the data that you could use, how the data might be accessed/collected, and what knowledge might be derived from that data. Be sure to incorporate feedback received from your colleagues’ replies.

Some of the revisions requires:
1. APA Horizontal List – In running text, a series of items is designated by letters in parentheses: (a) first item, (b) second item, and (c) third item. the following three principles will be adhered to (a) respect for persons, (b) the respect for justice, and (c) the respect for beneficence.
2. Citations where needed and if appropriate.
3. On page 5: “You have to connect this sentence with the previous one.  Indicate how the digitization relates to gathering data.  If that comes in the following sentences, perhaps rearrange the order of the sentences so readers are not confused.”
4. I am not sure how to address this question/comment “Should these two, last sentences be in the opposing argument, or the rebuttal?” on Pg 6
5. On Pg 10. I am not sure how to address the comment/feedback “Confused – already wrote lastly. Now I’m not sure of the order or to what thirdly is referring to.”
6. On Pg. 11, can you help fix his concern “Confused – Does this relate to the “Thirdly” in the previous paragraph? I think additional / different headings relating to your Intro will help guide the reader as to the layout of this section, as well as the flow.”
7. “Let’s stop here.  You should apply the preceding notes to the opposing section, but I’d like to see a revision of the Pro position section before moving forward.
Look at your headings to help guide the reader.  This will reduce redundancy as well, as each sub-topic will have its specific place in the section.”
