Discussion Questions/Comments Number 2 (Refer to page 5-6 of the Syllabus)
Due 2.00pm Wednesday, November 11
The articles by Risman (2006) and by Featherstone (2007) provide evidence of how gender roles are socialized and how gender plays a role in the job market. The articles, as you know, are available in the ‘Articles’ section of the Blackboard.
Write two questions and/or comments on the articles. You will therefore in total write four comments/questions – two for each article.
The questions/comments should reflect that you have read the article. They can be something that you found interesting and/or unexpected. The key is to apply analytical thinking using the sociological concepts and theories that we have studied so far. Your analysis should reflect the application of sociological concept/sAn example of the application of sociological concept would be to show how gender is socially constructed even though it is an ascribed characteristic. You can apply other central concepts and theories such as the linkages between objective and subjective reality, theories of structural functionalism and conflict. You can apply one or more concepts or theories. You do not have to discuss several concepts or theories. The key is to discuss a concept or a theory appropriately. You will not score more points if you have mentioned multiple concepts or theories but not done so correctly.
I am not looking for personal anecdotal stories. Personal stories can provide helpful food for thought but cannot be included in professional write-ups.
With respect to the format, you can write the questions or comments listed as question number 1 or comment number 1. However, the question/comment should be a paragraph comprising 4-5 sentences and not just one short sentence. Please proof read the work before submitting. Also, remember to follow the ‘Good Writing Style Tips’ posted in the ‘Course Tools’ section of the Blackboard.
The assignment is due 2.00pm Wednesday November 11, 2020. You are required to submit the assignment using the ‘Safe Assign’ mode. No email or late submissions will be accepted. The instructions for submission via ‘Safe Assign’ are provided in the ‘Course Tools’ section of the Blackboard. Safe Assign helps screen for plagiarism. The ‘Note on Plagiarism’ posted in the ‘Course Tools’ section of the Blackboard should be helpful in understanding what constitutes plagiarism. Also, see ‘Academic misconduct and plagiarism policy’ in the Syllabus (page 7). In order for the assignment to be graded, please make sure that you upload the assignment in a downloadable format and that you have responded to the right assignment. The downloaded format is MS Word or pdf.
The assignment should meet the following requirements;
a) contain a paragraph of 4-5 senetences for each of the four questions/comments
b) appropriate and correct and elaborate application of a sociological concept/theory to each of the four comments/questions
c) follow ‘Good Writing Style Tips’
d) no evidence of plagiarism
Once again, please note that any evidence of plagiarism would disqualify the assignment from receiving a grade. It may impact the final course grade too.
I would encourage you to carefully review the grading rubric provided below.
Grading rubric
A grade – wrote a paragraph of 4-5 sentences for each of the four questions/comments; appropriate and correct and elaborate explanation of the application of a sociological concept/theory in each of to the four questions/comments; followed ‘Good Writing Style Tips’ and no evidence of plagiarism

C grade –wrote a paragraph of 4-5 sentences for all the comments/questions but did not apply a sociological concept/theory in one of the four comments or to any of them or applied them inappropriately in all of them; or did not elaborate them; or wrote only one question/comment; or wrote one question/comment as a paragraph with 4-5 sentences and the other three questions/comments as one or two sentences; did not follow ‘Good Writing Style Tips’ and no evidence of plagiarism
D grade – did not follow two or more of the first three requirements and no evidence of plagiarism
F grade – did not follow two or more of the first three requirements or there is evidence of plagiarism

Holistic Model of Nursing

Question 1

Using the South University Online Library, research the holistic model within the nursing profession.

Based on your research, complete the following tasks:

  • Describe an experience in your clinical practice in which you used nursing clinical judgment based on the holistic model. How did you use the nursing process in that example?

Question 2

Using the South University Online Library, choose two cultures other than your own. Research how illness is viewed in those cultures. Based on your research, respond to the following:

  • How would you go about providing care to patients of these cultures? Make a checklist of points to be kept in mind when caring for patients from these cultures.

WHAT IS THE THEORETICAL BASIS FOR COMMUNITY NURSING?

HITECH Legislation (Transforming Nursing and Healthcare Through Information Technology)

In order for organizations to receive the incentives offered through the HITECH legislation, they must be able to demonstrate that they are using the technology in meaningful ways. The following criteria for meaningful use must be evident to qualify for EHR incentives (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, 2012). The technology must:

  • Improve quality, safety, and efficiency, and reduce health disparities
  • Engage patients and families
  • Improve care coordination
  • Improve population and public health
  • Ensure adequate privacy and security protections for personal health information

For this Discussion you consider the impact of the meaningful use criteria of the HITECH legislation on the adoption of health information technology.

To prepare:

  • Review the Learning Resources on the HITECH legislation and its primary goals.
  • Reflect on the positive and negative impact this legislation has had on your organization or one with which you are familiar.
  • Consider the incentives to encourage the use of EHRs. Focus on the definition of meaningful use and how it is measured.
  • Reflect on how the incentives and meaningful use impact the quality of patient care.
  • Find an article in the Walden Library dealing with one of the criteria to qualify for meaningful use and how it has been successfully met.

Post a description of how HITECH legislation has positively or negatively impacted your organization. Address how its related incentives influence the adoption of health information technology in health care and impact the quality of patient care. Provide a summary of the article you identified and explain how it demonstrates the ability of health information technology to meet the requirements of meaningful use.

CONSIDER THE STRENGTHS AND LIMITATIONS OF HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY.

In recent years, hormone replacement therapy has become a controversial issue. When prescribing therapies, advanced practice nurses must weigh the strengths and limitations of the prescribed supplemental hormones. If advanced practice nurses determine that the limitations outweigh the strengths, then they might suggest alternative treatment options such as herbs or other natural remedies, changes in diet, and increase in exercise.
Consider the following scenario:
As an advanced practice nurse at a      community health clinic, you often treat female (and sometimes male      patients) with hormone deficiencies. One of your patients requests that      you prescribe supplemental hormones. This poses the questions: How will      you determine what kind of treatment to suggest? What patient factors      should you consider? Are supplemental hormones the best option for the      patient, or would they benefit from alternative treatments?
To prepare:
Review Chapter 56 of the Arcangelo      and Peterson text, as well as the Holloway and Makinen and Huhtaniemi      articles in the Learning Resources.
Review the provided scenario and      reflect on whether or not you would support hormone replacement therapy.
Locate and review additional articles      about research on hormone replacement therapy for women and/or men.      Consider the strengths and limitations of hormone replacement therapy.
Based on your research of the      strengths and limitations, again reflect on whether or not you would      support hormone replacement therapy.
Consider whether you would prescribe      supplemental hormones or recommend alternative treatments to patients with      hormone deficiencies.
With these thoughts in mind:
Post a description of the strengths and limitations of hormone replacement therapy. Based on these strengths and limitations, explain why you would or why you would not support hormone replacement therapy. Explain whether you would prescribe supplemental hormones or recommend alternative treatments to patients with hormone deficiencies and why.

You are to implement a Message Authentication Code program in either C/C++ or Python.
See the following steps.
1. Accept a message as keyboard input to your program.
2. Accept a secret key for the sender/recipient as keyboard input to your program.
3. Your hash function H() is simply the checksum. To compute the checksum, you add all the characters of the string in ASCII codes. For example, the checksum of a string “TAMUC” would be 84 + 65 + 77 + 85 + 67 = 378.
Concatenate the secret key of the sender/recipient (from step 2) and the message (from step 1) and compute the checksum of the concatenated string. For ASCII codes, refer to the following website:
http://www.asciitable.com
4. Accept a secret key for the attacker as keyboard input to your program.
5. The attacker modifies the message from step 1. The original message can be modified any way you want.
6. Concatenate the secret key of the attacker (from step 4) and the modified message (from step 5) and compute the checksum of the concatenated string.
7. Concatenate the secret key of the sender/recipient (from step 2) and the modified message (from step 5) and compute the checksum of the concatenated string.
8. Compare the checksum from step 7 and the checksum from step 6. See if they match or not.
9. Compare the checksum from step 3 and the checksum from step 6. See if they match or not.
NOTE: your program should have separate functions for the checksum and the message modification by the attacker.
