A CRITICAL ROLE IN THEORY DEVELOPMENT.

Conceptual Components of TheoryAs with research concepts play a critical role in theory development. Consider for a moment the purpose of theory and its application to nursing practice. At the heart of any theorywhich seeks to describe explain predict or prescribelies the concept or concepts to be explored or addressed. Within the iterative process of theory development concepts must be defined and refined as the relationships between them are identified in order to articulate reality and inform effective practice. To prepare:By Tuesday 6/20/17 post 550 words essay in APA format with 3 references from the list below that include the level one headings as numbered below:1) Discuss the conceptual components of your selected middle range theory as applied to nursing practice. Assume that the low-calorie frozen, microwavable food company from Assignments 1 and 2 wants to expand, and has to make some long-term capital budgeting decisions. The company is currently facing increases in the costs of major ingredients. Use the Internet and Strayer databases to research government policies and regulation. Write a six to eight (6-8) page paper in which you: Outline a plan that managers in the low-calorie, frozen microwaveable food company could follow in anticipation of raising prices when selecting pricing strategies for making their products’ response to a change in price less elastic. Provide a rationale for your response. Examine the major effects that government policies have on production and employment. Predict the potential effects that government policies could have on your company. Determine whether or not government regulation to ensure fairness in the low-calorie, frozen microwavable food industry is needed. Cite the major reasons for government involvement in a market economy. Provide two (2) examples of government involvement in a similar market economy to support your response. Examine the major complexities that would arise under expansion via capital projects. Propose key actions that the company could take in order to prevent or address these complexities. Suggest the substantive manner in which the company could create a convergence between the interests of stockholders and managers. Indicate the most likely impact to profitability of such a convergence. Provide two (2) examples of instances that support your response. Use at least five (5) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia does not qualify as an academic resource. Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements: Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions. Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length. The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are: Propose how differences in demand and elasticity lead managers to develop various pricing strategies. Analyze the economic impact of contracting, governance and organizational form within organizations. Use technology and information resources to research issues in managerial economics and globalization. Write clearly and concisely about managerial economics and globalization using proper writing mechanics.

Getting Started

Mental disorders affect millions of children, adolescents, men, women, and older adults. Research from the National Institute of Mental Health shows that mental disorders are common throughout the United States, affecting tens of millions of people each year, and that, overall, only about half of those affected receive treatment. These mental disorders include:

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Bipolar disorders
  • Depression
  • Eating disorders
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Social phobia

Many individuals receiving care for mental health conditions also have physical ailments that require medical attention. Currently, though, our physical and behavioral health care systems tend to operate independently, without coordination between them, and gaps in care, inappropriate care, and increased costs can result.
Advocacy as a social worker is an important means of raising awareness on integrating physical and mental health care and ensuring that these issues are on the national agenda of our government. Advocacy can lead to improvements in policy, legislation, and service development.
Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:

  • Assess how social welfare and economic policies impact the delivery of and access to social services. (PO 5)
  • Demonstrate character, scholarship, and leadership in becoming a world changer through application to personal life and professional social work practice.
  • Demonstrate Christ-like attitudes, values, worldviews, and ethical and professional behavior within advanced clinical practice. (ILO 1)

Background Information

Imagine you are living in a rural area of your state. The closest doctor is 25 miles away. You have a decent job, but health care for your family is too expensive. You must choose between having health care through your employer or being able to pay your rent, pay for utilities, and buy groceries. Your income is over the limit for Medicaid or the State Child Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). Your eight-year-old has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Without treatment, he is unlikely to pass the third grade.
This is a common scenario in the United States today. It is important to understand how policy can impact the daily lives of clients. With this knowledge, you will be able to advocate for policies and effective service delivery to a broader range of consumers.

Instructions

  1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
  2. Read Chapter 9, “Physical and Mental Health Care Policy,” in your textbook Social Welfare Policy: Responding to a Changing World.
  3. Explore the National Institute of Mental Health website to learn about the prevalence of mental disorders in various populations.
  4. Respond to the following prompts in APA format.  Provide a one paragraph response while citing workshop resources to support your response.
    1. What is the relationship between poverty and health? How does the relationship change in a move from an industrial society to an information society?
    2. Are more Americans uninsured because of the policy choices that our society makes? Explain.
    3. How does America’s physical and mental health care system affect the nation’s economy?
    4. Disease outbreaks in other nations can make it to the United States in a matter of hours. How can people prepare?
  5. Review the rubric that your instructor will use to evaluate your work. Self-assess your initial post and responses using the rubric and make improvements as needed to meet expectations and ensure that your work fulfills all the requirements.

If you talk about a possible poor health outcome, do you believe that outcome will occur? Do you believe eye contact and personal contact should be avoided?

You would have a difficult time practicing as a nurse if you believed these to be true. But they are very real beliefs in some cultures.

Differences in cultural beliefs, subcultures, religion, ethnic customs, dietary customs, language, and a host of other factors contribute to the complex environment that surrounds global healthcare issues. Failure to understand and account for these differences can create a gulf between practitioners and the public they serve.

In this Assignment, you will examine a global health issue and consider the approach to this issue by the United States and by one other country.

To Prepare:

  • Review the World Health Organization’s (WHO) global health agenda and select one global health issue to focus on for this Assignment.
  • Select at least one additional country to compare to the U.S. for this Assignment.
  • Reflect on how the global health issue you selected is approached in the U.S. and in the additional country you selected.
  • Review and download the Global Health Comparison Matrix provided in the Resources.

The Assignment: (1- to 2-page Global Health Comparison Matrix; 1-page Plan for Social Change)

Part 1: Global Health Comparison Matrix

Focusing on the country you selected and the U.S., complete the Global Health Comparison Matrix. Be sure to address the following:

  • Consider the U.S. national/federal health policies that have been adapted for the global health issue you selected from the WHO global health agenda. Compare these policies to the additional country you selected for study.
  • Explain the strengths and weaknesses of each policy.
  • Explain how the social determinants of health may impact the global health issue you selected. Be specific and provide examples.
  • Using the WHO’s Organization’s global health agenda as well as the results of your own research, analyze how each country’s government addresses cost, quality, and access to the global health issue selected.
  • Explain how the health policy you selected might impact the health of the global population. Be specific and provide examples.
  • Explain how the health policy you selected might impact the role of the nurse in each country.
  • Explain how global health issues impact local healthcare organizations and policies in both countries. Be specific and provide examples.

Part 2: A Plan for Social Change

Reflect on the global health policy comparison and analysis you conducted in Part 1 of the Assignment and the impact that global health issues may have on the world, the U.S., your community, as well as your practice as a nurse leader.

In a 1-page response, create a plan for social change that incorporates a global perspective or lens into your local practice and role as a nurse leader.

  • Explain how you would advocate for the incorporation of a global perspective or lens into your local practice and role as a nurse leader.
  • Explain how the incorporation of a global perspective or lens might impact your local practice and role as a nurse leader.
  • Explain how the incorporation of a global perspective or lens into your local practice as a nurse leader represents and contributes to social change. Be specific and provide examples.

Task: Students will select an organization that has a homeland security mission. Remember this is an organization not a subject/topic or mission.
This assignment consists of conducting detailed research and analysis on a specific organization that has a homeland security mission and writing a strategic plan for that organization; taking it from where it is today to where it needs to be in three to five years from now. Remember, this is not an Emergency Operations Plan, nor an Emergency Response Plan, nor an Incident Action Plan. It is a strategic planning document designed to frame a long-range planning effort for the organization’s success. You basically want to plan on how to take the organization from where it is today to where it should be 3-5 years from now.
The Strategic Plan Project for this course requires students to apply the knowledge and concepts learned to a real-world work environment to develop a strategic plan for a homeland security organization.
During this course, students will learn how strategic planning enables homeland security organizations to establish strategy, make decisions, allocate resources, and manage programs safely, effectively, and efficiently. Students will examine the basic strategic planning requirements that all homeland security organizations must complete: prepare to plan; establish mission, vision, and core values; assess the situation; develop goals, strategies, initiatives, work plans, and objectives; and complete the written plan.
There are three graded components to the project. Students will be provided with a sample Strategic Plan and must use that sample plan EXACTLY as a template when submitting their assignments. Failure to use the provided Sample Strategic Plan as a template will result in that assignment being returned without being graded. The late policy will apply after that. Students must submit the following project items for grading:
Chapter 1: Introduction
The Introduction must contain the following items:
Cover Page
Working Table of Contents
Body of Chapter (5 pages of narrative) comprising:
the background
the statement of the problem
operational definitions
the significance of the study
Chapter Summary
References Page
The body of this chapter requires five full (5) pages of narrative, which does not include photographs, bulleted lists, or other inserts.
Research must be conducted for this introduction (see Research below under “All Chapters Information”). The research must be cited using APA format, with accompanying References listed on a References page at the end.
