Discussion Board GRAD

Discussion Board (DB) Participation Rubric Discussion boards (DBs) are what make an online course a course and not an independent study. DBs are vital to demonstrating that the learner has met the expected course level outcomes. Collaboration between peers and your instructor in the DB is an important aspect of the online learning experience and is expected in the course. Any exceptions to the following DB rubric will be at the instructor’s discretion. The purpose of a DB is to stimulate critical thinking in a scholarly manner. Critical thinking consists of synthesis, creating solutions, application to real world situations, and testing, debating, and defending evidence-based solutions. Critical thinking is not repetition of assigned reading material. Outside research of the literature is a vital part of the DB. Posts need to be substantive. This means that responses such as “I agree” or “great post” do not meet grading rubric requirements. Initial posts for each discussion question (DQ) is due no later than Saturday of the unit week. The initial post must be an answer to the DQ topic, not a comment on other posts. Initial posts for each DB must also include a minimum of three peer-reviewed citations. Citations must include outside sources and no more than one citation from assigned course readings may be used each week. Additionally, comments should also include a citation to support assertions. While the eCollege discussion board tool limits the ability to use APA formatting (e.g., hanging indents), posts must include the required elements of an APA in-text citation and list of references.

Your Discussion Post

What concept was the hardest for you to wrap your head around so far? Explain to your classmates why you are struggling with this particular topic. The intent of this forum is to generate discussion on a variety of topics covered so far in the course, so the more descriptive you are in your troubles, the better your classmates can help you fill the holes in your understanding. You need not pick a topic that is unique to previous posts, but be sure to title your post in a way that your classmates can easily identify your chosen topic.

Your Replies to Other Discussions

Look through your classmates discussions. Is there a topic you can help your fellow students with? Perhaps you found a great resource on the web that enhanced your understanding that you can share, or came up with a good study tool to develop your own understanding, or maybe it is a topic that you came into the class with an strong understanding. Share what you know and help your fellow classmates be successful on the exam!

DO NOT just reply by saying you struggled with the same thing. Your reply must be something that is constructive and helpful to the student that created the post.

To receive full credit, you must:

  • Write in complete sentences that are thoughtful, well written, and free of typos.
  • Address all parts of the forum topic.
  • Use vocabulary presented in the learning materials appropriately.
  • Create a discussion and reply to another discussion by 8:00 pm on Saturday of week 4 (7 days after week 4 module becomes available).

reply to student 1:
Something that I found confusing was during lab two, there was a section where we had to calculate index of dispersion (Id). It was part 3, question 3. In the report procedure it said calculations may not be exact, but if Id = 1, then distribution pattern is random. If Id = n, then distribution pattern is clumped. If Id = 0, then distribution pattern is uniform. My excel calculation came out to be 1.21. Maybe I am used to working down to the exact decimal but at what point would Id not be able to identify with a distribution pattern?
reply to student 2:
I think the hardest concept that we have learned so far for me had to be Lab 3 Paradox of Enrichment. I didn’t think at first this lab would be that difficult so I just went with the flow and started the lab. I should of took more time to read everything before I let the simulation go. After reading my feedback from the teacher I realized I should of took more time and fully explained everything instead of just a couple sentences in each question. I went back to simulation and did it all oven again and took my time and everything made much more sense.

Assignment 8:  Global Pricing Strategy – iPad Pro
Purpose:
Pricing is one of most important marketing mix strategies. A price must be low enough to gain sales, but high enough to guarantee the flow of funds to support activities like R&D, production, and distribution. However, pricing is more complex internationally than domestically. We often see identical products priced differently in international markets. Why is that? Please write an essay about global pricing by answering the following questions.

Instruction:

  1. Use Apple iPad Pro (11-inch, WiFi, 128 GB model) as an example.
  2. Data collection: Compare the prices of this iPad Pro in US and three other different foreign countries of your interest.

 Psychology homework help
Volunteers and political officials in local communities often campaign to improve conditions and provide services to increase the well-being of individuals and families living in those communities. If you are the parent of young children, you might focus on improving the local school or creating safe places where children can play. If you are an individual in later adulthood or a caregiver for an individual in later adulthood, what community resources might be important to you? For this week’s Assignment, you evaluate the resources that your local community provides for its older members.
To prepare for this Assignment, research the resources available in your local community to support the issues and concerns of the older population. Note any gaps in these services and consider what improvements might be made to existing services as well as what services should be added.

Submit a 2.5- to 4-page APA paper that includes the following:

  • A description of the services in your local community that support individuals in later adulthood
  • An evaluation of the effectiveness of the services you identified
  • A description of service gaps you identified
  • An explanation of how to improve existing services
  • A description of services that should be added, and why

Drug Treatments For HIV/AIDS

While HIV/AIDS is still currently incurable, the prognosis for patients with this infectious disease has improved due to advancements in drug treatments. Consider the case of Kristy Aney. Kristy was diagnosed with HIV in 1992 and was told she would survive, at most, 10 more years. Despite unfavorable odds, Kristy is still alive 20 years later. Since her diagnosis, she has witnessed tremendous improvements in HIV/AIDS treatments which have helped patients live longer with fewer side effects. While she acknowledges that these drug treatments have kept her alive, she fears that improvements in drug therapy have led to more people becoming complacent about the disease (Idaho Statesmen, 2012). In fact, the number of people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States is higher than it has ever been (CDC, 2012). This poses the question: Is there a relationship between drug advancements, societal complacency, and infection?
To prepare:

  • Review Chapter 49 of the Arcangelo      and Peterson text, as well as the Krummenacher et al. and Scourfield      articles in the Learning Resources.
  • Reflect on whether or not the      prevalence of HIV cases might be attributed to increased complacency due      to more advanced drug treatment options for HIV/AIDS.
  • Consider how health care      professionals can help to change perceptions and make people more aware of      the realities of the disease.
  • Think about strategies to educate HIV      positive patients on medication adherence, as well as safe practices to      reduce the risk of infecting others.

With these thoughts in mind:
Post an explanation of whether or not you think the prevalence of HIV cases might be attributed to increased complacency due to more advanced drug treatment options. Then, explain how health care professionals can help to change perceptions and increase awareness of the realities of the disease. Finally, describe strategies to educate HIV positive patients on medication adherence, as well as safe practices to reduce the risk of infecting others.

M2-2 Assignment 2: Fieldwork Observation Task

My first potential site for Field Work would be at Kristi House, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization in Miami, Florida, dedicated to healing and eradicating child sexual abuse. Kristi House operates the Orlowitz-Lee Children’s Advocacy Center responsible for sexual abuse cases in all of Miami-Dade County, population 2.6 million
· Address: 1265 NW 12th Ave, Miami, FL 33136
· Phone: (305) 547-6800
My second potential site would be Field Work at The Glory House of Miami is a Christ-centered non-profit organization devoted to healing and restoring the lives of those who have suffered the abuse and exploitation of human trafficking. We are dedicated to serving the rescued survivors. Glory House of Miami (786)505-4681
My third potential site would be Field Work at  Anti-Predator Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to combating human trafficking and sexual predators in the United States through the use of specially trained private investigators. Along with providing investigative and protective services for those victims of these horrific crimes, Anti-Predator Project is also highly dedicated to educating the community about the reality of human trafficking in the United States.   Phone Number 305-796-4859
I have chosen these 3 places because of the kind of support and dedication given to the victims.
arly anyone who has been the victim of a crime has the right to receive the services of a victim advocate. Victims of violent crimes, however, are more likely to seek or need these services. A person might work with an advocate if she has been the victim of one of the following crimes:
· Child Abuse
· Spousal Abuse
· Sexual Assault
· Attempted Murder
· Hate Crimes
· Assault
· Battery
· Domestic Abuse
Dealing with crime victims can often be very stressful and heart wrenching. Therefore, certain characteristics are necessary when looking to start a victim advocate career. Victim advocates should be very understanding and non-judgmental, for instance, as well as excellent communicators. Professionals in this field must also be very trustworthy, as many victims will find it very hard to trust anyone after their ordeals.
Because they often face the details and see the aftermaths of crimes everyday, victim advocates should also be emotionally strong individuals themselves. Although victim advocates should usually work to keep the best interests of the victims in mind, they should also keep their own interests and health in mind as well. They should, for example, know when to stop and recuperate emotionally, in order to keep doing their jobs.

Why Do We Need Victim Advocates?

How would you feel if you were a victim of a crime? Or your parents? Or your children?
As mentioned above, being a victim of a crime is very frightening and confusing. These individuals will often not know which way to turn and may be overwhelmed with all of the “red tape” and procedures needed in order to seek justice.
Victim advocates, however, provide a shoulder to lean on during this time, as well as a map that can be used to navigate the justice system. They can help victims take care of basic needs, as well as help them find justice.

  • Assignment 1: LASA 2—Prevention Strategies
Treatment programs cannot always be 100% effective, and many substance abusers relapse into drug abuse after days, months, or even years of sobriety. With the marginal success of treatment programs, it is even more important that people never start using drugs. As such, prevention strategies are of utmost importance.Case Study Part III
Aaliyah had been taking amphetamines regularly for two months and had been experiencing the physiological, psychological, and toxic effects of chronic amphetamine use. She had started drinking alcohol to help her sleep at night.
One morning she was driving to work and feeling the effects of a hangover from the night before. She was not concentrating on the road, and ran into the back of a car that had stopped in front of her. Luckily, none of the people involved in the accident was seriously injured.
This incident served as a “wake up call” for Aaliyah, and she decided to get help for her problems. However, because she is now using both amphetamines and alcohol, she is not sure what treatment program to enter.
Aaliyah would like to help other people avoid the troubles caused by drugs. She would like to give a presentation at her college to discuss her experiences and give students several prevention options, as well as ways to tell if their friends or loved ones have a drug problem.
Review the case study. Using your module readings and the Argosy University online library resources, research methods of increasing awareness about substance abuse and dependence.
Develop a PowerPoint presentation including the following:

    • Identify and describe two prevention strategies.
    • Explain ways of determining whether loved ones have a problem with drugs using the current DSM characteristics of substance use disorders.
    • Address the effectiveness of current treatment strategies in the United States.
    • Explain polysubstance abuse.
    • Address the possible treatment options and treatment difficulties for someone who is dependent on two substances.
    • Develop an 8–10-slide presentation (complete with speakers notes) in PowerPoint format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Be sure to include a title slide and a list of references. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M5_A1.ppt. By the due date assigned, deliver your assignment to the Submissions Area .
