Journal response. In Weeks 3-7 you were directed to keep a professional work journal (Please refer to Week 2 for a review of instructions). Now you will review your work journal entries and arrange some of them into an essay. The essay will reflect upon those five (5) weeks of experiences recorded in your journal and what you have learned.  Include how they may have furthered your career or caused you to rethink your career goals.  Your essay should include your experiences, observations, and the key concepts based on the internship and business course experience. The CLA 1 assignment will be a Turnitin paper of 4 to 6 pages.
Your paper should be formatted in APA style. Include at least two (2) peer-reviewed sources related to course material taken in your academic program and scholarly journals.
Reminder About Journaling: Whether you want to be able to look back at where you started, set a future state for yourself and seek a new path, or just deal with present issues, journaling helps you do that in a reflective way. You need not write every day. Journaling gives you a place to better understand yourself, to plan your goals, and to follow-up on goals. One pitfall of journaling is that it can become part of a log of your feelings for any one day and you want to avoid these types of emotional responses.

Evidence-Based Practice Project Paper on Diabetes

As a team, consider the following scenario:

On Dec. 7, 2000, the Cincinnati Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) office heard through media and police reports that there were two deaths at a nursing home in Ohio. OSHA determined that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should take a lead role in performing an investigation.

Because the nursing home had many residents who had unhealthy respiratory systems, the nursing home routinely ordered and received tanks that contained pure oxygen. During one delivery, the supplier mistakenly delivered one tank of pure nitrogen in addition to the three tanks of pure oxygen that had been ordered. The nitrogen tank had both an oxygen and nitrogen label. An employee at the nursing home connected the nitrogen tank to the nursing home’s oxygen delivery system. This event caused two nursing home residents to die, and three additional nursing home residents were admitted to hospitals in critical condition. Within the following month, two of these three additional residents also died, bringing the total death toll to four. (Based on accident #837914 www.osha.gov)

Write a 200-word paper in which your team compares the Normal Accident Theory to the Culture of Safety model. Include the following in your paper:

  • Explain what factors can play a role in organizational accidents similar to the one highlighted in the scenario.
  • How do organizational processes give rise to potential failures?
  • How can certain conditions influence errors and violations within the workplace (e.g., operating room, pharmacy, intensive care unit)?
  • What are the errors and violations committed by “sharp end” individuals?
  • How does the breaching of defenses or safeguards affect these accidents?

Personal Leadership Training Plan: Final

In Units II, IV, V, and VI, you designed PowerPoint presentations on different elements of your Personal Leadership Training Plan. Now, you will put all of the sections together into one PowerPoint presentation. Make revisions to your previous sections based upon your feedback from your instructor. Additionally, you will add a description of a company or leader you admire and what you can learn from this company or leader.

Start by reviewing your instructor’s feedback from Units II, IV, V, and VI, and then meet the following criteria:

  • Combine all PowerPoints into one presentation, and make revisions based on your instructor’s feedback and new knowledge.
  • Add introduction and conclusion slides (two slides).
  • Select either a leader or company you admire that experienced a major change in organizational culture.
  • Explain that change and the circumstances surrounding that change (seven slides minimum).
  • Explain how you can learn from this change (two slides minimum).

You are required to use at least one outside source for this assignment. All sources used must be cited and referenced according to APA format. You are not required to add additional slides to the portions submitted in previous units (unless otherwise instructed by your professor).

Resources

The following resource(s) may help you with this assignment.

Based on the population you identified for your Underserved Population Research Paper and your Mursion client,  create a proposed agency that would be a recommendation to support their needs. Prepare a 5-page case presentation to include the following elements.  Make sure to address each prompt.  Submission should be in full APA formatting.
•        An overview of the agency
•        Background information on the client (psychosocial history)
•        Treatment plan – goals and objectives
One contact note
•        Services provided by your agency
•        Services provided by other agencies
•        A detailed explanation of client contacts and interventions used
•        An assessment of your abilities to work with this client
•        Ethical/professional issues that relate to the case.
A reflective summary of abilities as a human services professional
  1.     Definitions of the quality of medical care are no longer left to clinicians who decide for themselves what technical performance constitutes “good care.”  Name one (1) other dimension of quality care and why is it important?
  2.            What is the primary method of continuous quality improvement (CQI) in health care, and what is its underlying premise?
  3.            Since an ever-increasing amount of research is funded by commercial companies, what is your opinion on a requirement for authors of scientific studies who receive income from these companies to disclose funding sources in their scientific publications?

Future of Health Care Questions:

  1.            Today’s not-for-profit hospitals and health systems are commonly multi-billion dollar tax-exempt organizations. What is your position on the new federal scrutiny upon, and reporting requirements for justifying the charitable missions of not-for-profit hospitals and health systems?
  2.            In 1999, the Institute of medicine report, To Err is Human, generated a brief flurry of concerns about avoidable hospital deaths.  While progress has been made in addressing system errors and deficiencies, it remains inconsistent across the nation’s hospitals.  Fourteen years after this report, is it time for the professions, payers and the public to demand corrections of system problems in an accountable, transparent and publicly disclosed manner?  What form can or should these demands take?
