QUESTION
Nursing research and evidence based practice with picot question
Today is week 1 day 2. I need discussion question by Weds. The picot question in this discussion question will be the question for the paper. So I need discussion question complete and the 3 part paper.
Discussion: Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice
In your practice as a nurse, you may use procedures and methods that did not necessarily originate in evidence, but instead were derived from informal and unwritten conventions, traditions, and observations. While these techniques may have merit, practices are constantly being updated and contradicted by information from scholarly research studies and professional guidelines. This new information serves as “evidence” for revising practices to improve outcomes across health care.
Based on this evidence, you can formulate a question. In this Discussion, you consider the use of evidence-based practice in your own organization and formulate a question that you will need to answer for your portfolio project. This is called a PICOT question. You will also investigate strategies for overcoming barriers to implementing evidence-based practice (EBP).
To prepare:
- Consider a recent clinical experience in which you were providing care for a patient.
- Determine the extent to which the care that you provided was based on evidence and research findings or supported only by your organization’s standard procedures. How do you know if the tasks were based on research?
- What questions have you thought about in a particular area of care such as a procedure or policy?
- Review Chapter 2, pages 31–34 on “Asking Well worded Clinical Questions” in Polit & Beck and consult the resource from the Walden Student Center for Success: Clinical Question Anatomy & examples of PICOT questions (found in this week’s Learning Resources). Formulate your background questions and PICOT question.
- Reflect on the barriers that might inhibit the implementation of evidence-based practice in your clinical environment.
- Review the article “Adopting Evidence-Based Practice in Clinical Decision Making” in this week’s Learning Resources. Select one of the barriers described that is evident in your organization and formulate a plan for overcoming this barrier.
By Day 3
Post an evaluation of the use, or lack thereof, of EBP in a recent clinical experience. Identify which aspects of the care delivered, if any, were based on evidence and provide your rationale. List your background questions and PICOT question about this nursing topic. Critique how the policies, procedures, and culture in your organization may hinder or support the adoption of evidence-based practices. Identify the barrier you selected from the article and explain how this barrier could be overcome within your organization.
Course Project: Part 1—Identifying a Researchable Problem
One of the most challenging aspects of EBP is to actually identify the answerable question.
—Karen Sue Davies
Formulating a question that targets the goal of your research is a challenging but essential task. The question plays a crucial role in all other aspects of the research, including the determination of the research design and theoretical perspective to be applied, which data will be collected, and which tools will be used for analysis. It is therefore essential to take the time to ensure that the research question addresses what you actually want to study. Doing so will increase your likelihood of obtaining meaningful results.
In this first component of the Course Project, you formulate questions to address a particular nursing issue or problem. You use the PICOT model—patient/population, intervention/issue, comparison, and outcome—outlined in the Learning Resources to design your questions.
To prepare:
- Review the article, “Formulating the Evidence Based Practice Question: A Review of the Frameworks,” found in the Learning Resources for this week. Focus on the PICOT model for guiding the development of research questions.
- Review the section beginning on page 75 of the course text, titled, “Developing and Refining Research Problems” in the course text, which focuses on analyzing the feasibility of a research problem.
- Reflect on an issue or problem that you have noticed in your nursing practice. Consider the significance of this issue or problem.
- Generate at least five questions that relate to the issue which you have identified. Use the criteria in your course text to select one question that would be most appropriate in terms of significance, feasibility, and interest. Be prepared to explain your rationale.
- Formulate a preliminary PICO question—one that is answerable—based on your analysis. What are the PICO variables (patient/population, intervention/issue, comparison, and outcome) for this question?
Note: Not all of these variables may be appropriate to every question. Be sure to analyze which are and are not relevant to your specific question.
- Using the PICOT variables that you determined for your question, develop a list of at least 10 keywords that could be used when conducting a literature search to investigate current research pertaining to the question.
To complete:
Write a 3- to 4-page paper that includes the following:
- A summary of your area of interest, an identification of the problem that you have selected, and an explanation of the significance of this problem for nursing practice
- The 5 questions you have generated and a description of how you analyzed them for feasibility
- Your preliminary PICOT question and a description of each PICOT variable relevant to your question
- At least 10 possible keywords that could be used when conducting a literature search for your PICOT question and a rationale for your selections
By Day 7
Submit your Project. It will also be a component of your Portfolio Assignment for this course, which is due by Day 7 of Week 10.

2nd part
Course Project: Part 2—Literature Review
This is a continuation of the Course Project presented in Week 2. Before you begin, review the Course Project Overview document located in the Week 2 Resources area.
The literature review is a critical piece in the research process because it helps a researcher determine what is currently known about a topic and identify gaps or further questions. Conducting a thorough literature review can be a time-consuming process, but the effort helps establish the foundation for everything that will follow. For this part of your Course Project, you will conduct a brief literature review to find information on the question you developed in Week 2. This will provide you with experience in searching databases and identifying applicable resources.
To prepare:
- Review the information in Chapter 5 of the course text, focusing on the steps for conducting a literature review and for compiling your findings.
- Using the question you selected in your Week 2 Project (Part 1 of the Course Project), locate 5 or more full-text research articles that are relevant to your PICOT question. Include at least 1 systematic review and 1 integrative review if possible. Use the search tools and techniques mentioned in your readings this week to enhance the comprehensiveness and objectivity of your review. You may gather these articles from any appropriate source, but make sure at least 3 of these articles are available as full-text versions through Walden Library’s databases.
- Read through the articles carefully. Eliminate studies that are not appropriate and add others to your list as needed. Although you may include more, you are expected to include a minimum of five articles. Complete a literature review summary table using the Literature Review Summary Table Templatelocated in this week’s Learning Resources.
- Prepare to summarize and synthesize the literature using the information on writing a literature review found in Chapter 5 of the course text.
To complete:
Write a 3- to 4-page literature review that includes the following:
- A synthesis of what the studies reveal about the current state of knowledge on the question that you developed
- Point out inconsistencies and contradictions in the literature and offer possible explanations for inconsistencies.
- Preliminary conclusions on whether the evidence provides strong support for a change in practice or whether further research is needed to adequately address your inquiry
- Your literature review summary table with all references formatted in correct APA style
Note: Certain aspects of conducting a standard review of literature have not yet been covered in this course. Therefore, while you are invited to critically examine any aspect of the studies (e.g., a study’s design, appropriateness of the theoretic framework, data sampling methods), your conclusion should be considered preliminary. Bear in mind that five studies are typically not enough to reflect the full range of knowledge on a particular question and you are not expected to be familiar enough with research methodology to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of all aspects of the studies.
By Day 7 of Week 5
This part of the Course Project is due. It will also be a component in your Portfolio Assignment in this course, which is due by Day 7 of Week 10.
3rd part
Course Project: Part 3—Translating Evidence Into Practice
In Part 3 of the Course Project, you consider how the evidence you gathered during Part 2 can be translated into nursing practice.
Now that you have located available research on your PICOT question, you will examine what the research indicates about nursing practices. Connecting research evidence and findings to actual decisions and tasks that nurses complete in their daily practice is essentially what evidence-based practice is all about. This final component of the Course Project asks you to translate the evidence and data from your literature review into authentic practices that can be adopted to improve health care outcomes. In addition, you will also consider possible methods and strategies for disseminating evidence-based practices to your colleagues and to the broader health care field.
To prepare:
- Consider Parts 1 and 2 of your Course Project. How does the research address your PICOT question?
- With your PICOT question in mind, identify at least one nursing practice that is supported by the evidence in two or more of the articles from your literature review. Consider what the evidence indicates about how this practice contributes to better outcomes.
- Explore possible consequences of failing to adopt the evidence-based practice that you identified.
- Consider how you would disseminate information about this evidence-based practice throughout your organization or practice setting. How would you communicate the importance of the practice?
To complete:
In a 3- to 4-page paper:
- Restate your PICOT question and its significance to nursing practice.
- Summarize the findings from the articles you selected for your literature review. Describe at least one nursing practice that is supported by the evidence in the articles. Justify your response with specific references to at least 2 of the articles.
- Explain how the evidence-based practice that you identified contributes to better outcomes. In addition, identify potential negative outcomes that could result from failing to use the evidence-based practice.
- Outline the strategy for disseminating the evidence-based practice that you identified throughout your practice setting. Explain how you would communicate the importance of the practice to your colleagues. Describe how you would move from disseminating the information to implementing the evidence-based practice within your organization. How would you address concerns and opposition to the change in practice?
By Day 7 of Week 10
This part of the Course Project is due. It should be combined with the other two components of the Course Project and turned in as your Portfolio Assignment for this course.
Note: In addition, include a 1-page summary of your project.
For this final iteration, you will need to:
- Submit your paper to Grammarly and SafeAssign through the Walden Writing Center. Based on the Grammarly and SafeAssign reports, revise your paper as necessary.
- Reminder: The School of Nursing requires that all papers submitted include a title page, introduction, summary, and references. The School of Nursing Sample Paper provided at the Walden Writing Center provides an example of those required elements (available from the Walden University website found in this week’s Learning Resources). All papers submitted must use this formatting.

Evidenced Base Practice
UncategorizedDetails:
In 500-750 words (not including the title page and reference page), apply a change model to the implementation plan. Include the following:
Rogers’ diffusion of innovation theory is a particularly good theoretical framework to apply to an EBP project. However, students may also choose to use change models, such as Duck’s change curve model or the transtheoretical model of behavioral change. Other conceptual models presented such as a utilization model (Stetler’s model) and EBP models (the Iowa model and ARCC model) can also be used as a framework for applying your evidence-based intervention in clinical practice.
Apply one of the above models and carry your implementation through each of the stages, phases, or steps identified in the chosen model.
In addition, create a conceptual model of the project. Although you will not be submitting the conceptual model you design in Topic 5 with the narrative, the conceptual model should be placed in the appendices for the final paper.
Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
Upon receiving feedback from the instructor, refine “Section E: Change Model” for your final submission. This will be a continuous process throughout the course for each section.

describe a global health problem that can be explored through research, discuss how this health problem is applicable in both the United States and other countries of the world, and critique four research studies that have been done on this topic.
UncategorizedPaper Requirements: Using what you have learned from your assigned reading, please write a review of the literature paper using APA format. This paper will include Appraisal Synopses of four (4) nursing research studies. (You will learn how to do a Research Appraisal Synopsis for your Learning Activities. This is explained in Chapter 16 of your Evidence-Based Nursing third edition textbook, and a completed Sample Appraisal is on pages 401-404). After deciding on a clinical topic that is relevant to global health, you will access the FIU Library and conduct a Literature Review on your topic for Part B of your paper. You will select four studies and complete a Synopsis Appraisal for each study. The research study articles selected for each Synopsis must be of original nursing research studies, not integrative review articles, and the studies must have been published in a peer-reviewed journal. Review Chapter Three on reading research articles before selecting the four studies for this paper. At least TWO of the four research study articles MUST BE written by nurses and published in a peer-reviewed nursing journal. At least ONE of the two nursing research studies must be about nursing in another country (non-USA).
The purpose of the paper is to describe a global health problem that can be explored through research, discuss how this health problem is applicable in both the United States and other countries of the world, and critique four research studies that have been done on this topic.
This is a scholarly paper, written as if it were a “Review of the literature” article published in a nursing journal.
DO NOT use first person voice. The paper should be 6-8 pages (maximum of 8 pages, not counting the title page, abstract page and reference list). You must use a minimum of 4 research articles for your paper. You may use any of the nursing research journals from your weekly assigned websites. The research study articles will be discussed in the text of the paper, properly cited in the paper, and then properly listed on your reference page. APA format for citing in the text and then citing on the reference pare are required. Use what you have learned about research methods, research studies, and how to read a research article, to select your research study articles. Refer back to Chapter 3 – “Starting Point”- and use those criteria to determine if you have correctly selected a research study article. You will receive or lose points on correct selection of a research study article versus a non-research or review article. At least TWO of the four research study articles MUST BE written by nurses and published in a peer-reviewed nursing journal. At least ONE of the two nursing research studies must be about nursing in another country (non-USA).
PART A. The first part of the paper should clearly define the global health problem, and discuss why it is important for nursing (why you have chosen this topic to write about). Also discuss how this problem is viewed in the United States and then how it is viewed in at least one other country. For example, if you discuss elevated blood pressure in adults, you may discuss guidelines for defining hypertension in the United States (reference the article where the guidelines came from, using APA format). Then find an article from another country and discuss how hypertension is described in that country (reference the article using APA format).
PART B. The second part of the paper will include an Appraisal Synopsis for each of the research studies that you have selected on your topic. This part of the paper will inform the reader about what is known about this problem in the United States population and in at least one other country of the world. For example, in the topic of hypertension, you may choose four research study articles done by nurse researchers that looked at such issues as interventions to improve medication adherence, or adherence to a prescribed diet, or the effect of an exercise intervention in reducing elevated blood pressure. Set up your paper using the following format: Use the heading Part B for this section.
Then use the subheading Study #1; Nursing research Study in the USA. Then appraise and critique the article following the components of Synopsis (textbook pages 401-402).Type the study name, author(s), year of publication, journal and pages, using APA format (same format as will be used on your reference page). Then do a Synopsis of the article. Conclude by discussing implications for practice, policy or further research.
Next use the subheading Study #2-Nursing Research Study Non-USA. Follow the same instructions as for Subheading Study #1.
Next use the subheading Study #3 (this can be a nursing research study from USA or non-USA). Follow the same instructions as for Subheading Study #1.
Next use the subheading Study #4 (this can be a nursing research study from USA or non-USA). Follow the same instructions as for Subheading Study #1.
Part C: This is the conclusion of your paper, and summarizes the key points that you have addressed in your paper.
.In your new job as a leader in a nursing department, you want to prepare yourself for any situation that may occur. You take time to review your relevant experiences and some of the lawsthat will affect your actions.
UncategorizedWithin the Discussion Board area, write 300 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your
classmates. You are required to use 1 scholarly resource, in addition to your textbook. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas. In your new job as a leader in a nursing department, you want to prepare yourself for any situation that may occur. Community Teaching Work Plan Proposal
Directions: Develop an educational series proposal for your community using one of the following four topics:
1) Bioterrorism/Disaster
2) Environmental Issues
3) Primary Prevention/Health Promotion
4) Secondary Prevention/Screenings for a Vulnerable Population
Planning Before Teaching:
2 hours
Soaps, pamphlets
150 people
Primary health prevention
Epidemiological Rationale for Topic (statistics related to topic):
Various researches undertaken have discovered that majority of stomach problems affecting individuals are cause by poor sanitation. It is also identified that 50 % of such ailments can be prevented through washing hands. Also, it has been identified that 16% of respiratory infections can also be reduced through hand washing practices. Proper handwashing practices can be undertaken through the use of regular hand washing using sanitizers such as alcohol. This practice as utilized in elementary schools is stated to effectively reduce human infections by 19.8% (WHO, 2014).
Nursing Diagnosis:
Most of the risk factors are associated with human attributes such as:
1. Age
2. Inadequate information
Readiness for Learning: Identify the factors that would indicate the readiness to learn for the target aggregate. Include emotional and experiential readiness to learn.
These project will seek various indications which will show the readiness of the people to learning. Such indications will include;
1. Their readiness to undertaking the lesson
2. Asking the learners questions concerning their hand washing practices and their infection prevention practices.
3. Giving the learners time to present their ideas and ensuring that the correct practice is utilized.
Learning Theory to Be Utilized: Explain how the theory will be applied.
The learning process will involve the use of handouts where the learners will be issued with the materials before the lesson is administered. These handouts will be detailed with the relevant information about the numerous diseases that are caused as a result of poor handwashing practices, best hand washing practices, best detergents to use and the importance of hand washing (Luby et al, 2005). It will also include an explanation of how undertaking the practice wills enhance the fight against infections.
Goal: Healthy People 2020 (HP2020) objective(s) utilized as the goal for the teaching. Include the appropriate objective number and rationale for using the selected HP2020 objective (use at least one objective from one of the 24 focus areas). If an HP2020 objective does not support your teaching, explain how your teaching applies to one of the two overarching HP2020 goals.
. This article enhances two main objectives which include; the prevention and eradication of human infections and secondly it promotes the aspect of human respiratory problems through the enhancement of proper human practices. The prevention measures utilized include routine checkups as well as undertaking early treatment in case one gets infected (US Dept. of Health and Human Services, 2000).
Handwashing is considered one of the first step towards enhancing proper heath practices since it prevents the spread of numerous infections. Various researches have argued that the practice of washing hands is one of the most effective practices which are used in the process of mitigating human infections (Pessoa-Silva et al. (2007). This is due to the fact that healthcare infections cause most of human complications. Therefore, the prevention of such infection will enable the government to save a lot of money which in most cases is used to cater for these infections.
How Does This HP2020 Objective Relate to Alma Ata’s Health for All Global Initiatives (See page 116 in the textbook)?
The Alma-Ata’s declaration of 1978 stated that it is a human right to ensure that a human body should maintain a health which is free from diseases and it should have both physical as well as mental well-being (Van Lerberghe, 2008). Therefore, individuals should ensure that they maintain a healthy life. Also it stated the need for social and economic sectors should enhance their efforts in boosting the health sector (World Health Organization (WHO), 2014). Such efforts are made to bridge the disparity in the health status between the developed and the developing states.
Develop Behavioral Objectives (Including Domains), Content, and Strategies/Methods:
Example – Third-grade students will name one healthy food choice in each of the five food groups by the end of the presentation. (Cognitive Domain)
Example – The Food Pyramid has five food groups which are….
Healthy foods from each group are…. Unhealthy foods containing a lot of sugar or fat are….
(label and describe)
Example – Interactive poster presentation of the Food Pyramid. After an explanation of the poster and each food category, allow students to place pictures of foods on the correct spot on the pyramid. Also, have the class analyze what a child had for lunch by putting names of foods on the poster and discussing what food group still needs to be eaten throughout day.
Creativity: How was creativity applied in the teaching methods/strategies?
The teaching strategy involved the use of pamphlets with different images showing the process of germ contamination.
Planned Evaluation of Objectives (Outcome Evaluation): Describe what you will measure for each objective and how.
Measure the understating of the subject through asking questions on the subject
Observe the way they practically manifest the learned concept through practically involving them in the process
Observe their reaction and expression after the hand washing lesson
Observe the number of questions they raise after the lesson.
Planned Evaluation of Goal: Describe how and when you could evaluate the overall effectiveness of your teaching plan.
Engage them in the hand washing process and observe how they wash their hands and also answer any question that they may raise in the process.
Planned Evaluation of Lesson and Teacher (Process Evaluation):
The lesson was effective despite the low turnout. Those who availed themselves were cooperative and they enhanced effective communication through asking questions which bothered them as the lesson was undertaken. The lesson also attained its objective since the learners were attentive throughout the lesson and then they actively participated in the practical handwashing process where most stated that they will actively convince other community members to utilize hand washing processes as a measure of controlling different infections which affected them.
Barriers: What are potential barriers that may arise during teaching and how will those be handled?
One of the main barriers observed was lack of cooperation form the community members who did not turn up in large numbers. This had an implication that many people do not enhance hand washing practices since they could not be convinced of its relevance (WHO, 2014).
Communication: How will you begin your presentation (hook them in)? How will you end your presentation (go out with a bang)? What nonverbal communication techniques will you employ?
The presentation will involve the acknowledgment of the learners to the lesson and then they will be issued with the pictured pamphlets to gain their attention. Different gestures will be used to explain the different handwashing practices to enhance their understanding. The presentation will end by giving tokens such as handwashing soap to different learners who will answer summative questions correctly.
