Question Description

Assessment Instructions

PREPARATION

Suppose your organization is concerned about a number of health issues that have either affected an increased number of the residents in the community or show the probability of affecting a larger number of people in the population. Your organizational leaders have asked different health care professionals within the organization, including you, to examine the issues from your perspective, and to submit a report that includes evidence-based ways to address the issues.

You will first need to identify a critical health care issue in your community or state. You may choose either a public health issue, such as sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), measles, Lyme disease, asthma, et cetera; or a community health issue, such as uncontrolled diabetes, congestive heart disease, 30-day readmission, et cetera.

Then, look in the Capella library and on the Internet for statistics and peer-reviewed or professional resources to use in preparing your report.

REQUIREMENTS

Format this assessment as a professional report. It may help to look at reports or other documents used within your organization and to follow that formatting. You must still follow APA guidelines for in-text citations and references, and include a title page and reference page.

Within the report:

  • Describe one critical health issue in your community or state that has grown larger or has the potential to become larger. Be sure to include any statistics available on the health issue. Tip: check your county and/or state health department Web site.
  • Explain the factors that contribute to this health issue. Consider things such as access to health care services, economics, culture, attitude, education, health care policies, and so on.
  • Describe any interventions your community or state has put in place to address the health care issue. Include information on how long the interventions have been in place, how the community was made aware of the interventions, and so on.
  • Describe the scope and role of nursing and public health nursing in the interventions to reduce the health issue.
  • Recommend evidence-based ways the scope of the interventions could be expanded to increase positive health outcomes. Think in terms of cost, efficiency and access, effectiveness, and the use of both conventional and unconventional interventions.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Complete your assessment using the following specifications:

  • Title page and reference page.
  • Number of pages: 3–4 (not including the title and reference pages).
  • At least 3 current scholarly or professional resources.
  • APA format for citations and references.
  • Times New Roman font, 12-point, double-spaced.

Using practice assignments(the file i uploaded below, the order is 1,2,3,4), you will create a collection of your individual work to share with the class (or chosen audience). Your task is to create a portfolio of your work to showcase your progression through the course. This includes a creative element, meaning you will determine the best format to showcase your work. This might include a professional report, an Op-Ed, a visualization dashboard, a website, blog, video presentation or dedicated social media page or group. Length guidelines will depend on mode of delivery.

Here are the kinds of issues to address and include in the Reflective Journal/Summary. These suggestions are not exhaustive nor is each element “required”. The summary should naturally flow from your unique and idiosyncratic experience and practicum experience.
· Brief summary (numbers can be approximate) of the types of clients you have seen, tests given, populations, diagnoses, and professional experiences you have had
· Most challenging issue faced, and how did (or will) you address it, resolve it, develop it, etc.
· Most satisfying experience professionally and/or personally
· Share what “growth” you have noted in yourself as a Psychologist-In-Training over the course of this experience….
· Goals for practicum yet to be met, or future growth areas
· How you can impact the remainder of your practicum to have the experience you really want…. .
· Contributions you and your practicum site make in the area of social justice/social change…

The patient manifests symptoms of persistent depressive disorder and child neglect. In persistent depressive disorder, he exhibits signs of low self-esteem, low energy levels, problems with sleep onset and no motivation for participating in social activities such as his school band. This could be caused by parental neglect after their parents divorced when he was five years old, and there was minimal contact between him and his father.
The appropriate group therapeutic procedures would be meeting with the patient on a weekly basis for a period of fifteen weeks for one hour. A therapist leads the group. In the group, the patient is educated on the symptoms of persistent depressive disorder and the consequences of this disorder (Hellerstein et al., 2001). He is also educated on the benefits and disadvantages of medical treatment. The patient will be encouraged to work actively to confront the symptoms in the early stages of medication. Group therapy will help the patient to develop a sense of control and build on ways of connecting with people. It will help address interpersonal issues such as low self-esteem. Group therapy will help the patient to observe other patients and help them develop more open communication patterns. It will help the patient to address pessimistic thoughts (Hellerstein et al., 2001). The patient will be aware of the inconsistencies in his thoughts, behaviors and feelings and will build on ways of addressing these issues. He will gain an understanding of how to regulate his emotions and his relationship.
There are several ethical issues that clinicians should be aware of when they are counseling children. Counselors face several challenges relating to child treatment which include confidentiality and informed consent. For most counseling issues, the parents have a legal right to know what happens during the child’s counseling sessions, but the degree varies in different regions. Ethically, minors should be granted the same degree of confidentiality that is granted to adults (Sori & Hecker, 2015). The setting of where counseling occurs influences the level of privacy given. For example, a school counselor does not have to disclose information to parents about the counseling session with their child. In some cases where have to access to the records, the providers can regulate what is divulged to the parents especially if the information contained may be harmful to the child if disclosed (Sori & Hecker, 2015).
Counselors need to be aware of informed consent to treat adolescents and minors. Minors and adolescents may contract for counseling through parent consent or through a court order. However, in some countries, minors and adolescents have the right to informed consent without their parents’ consent (Sori & Hecker, 2015). While there are no laws that require counselors to get written permission from parents for their child to receive counseling, obtaining consent from parents is a good practice that counselors uphold unless there is any existing harm towards the minor (Sori & Hecker, 2015).
There is a lot to consider when counseling children to avoid the numerous potential problems that could result in legal and ethical problems. Minors and adolescents have fewer rights apart from those bestowed on them by the country, and counselors should work towards protecting the counseling relationship. Counselors should review their code of ethics and ethical regulations by getting a continuous education on ethical and legal issues.
