Reflection

In this course, you have learned about the range of exceptionalities in children from low-incidence disabilities to gifted and talented, and also twice-exceptional children.
Given the realities of budget cutbacks, financial challenges, and legal requirements of schools, the focus tends to be on evaluating and providing interventions for students on the disability end of the exceptionalities continuum, rather than on those considered gifted and talented.
Using the module readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research gifted and talented students. Then, reflect on what you have learned throughout this course.
Based on your research, respond to the following:
Part I

  • What arguments can you make for focusing time and resources on children with disabilities, rather than on those considered gifted and talented?
  • What arguments can be made for focusing on those considered gifted and talented?
  • Given what you have learned about the continuum of exceptionalities, what recommendations would you make? Provide reasons to support your answer.

Remember to consider ethical and legal arguments.
Part II

  • Explain why the term exceptionalities includes a continuum from those with low-incidence disabilities to gifted and talented. What do all of these children have in common?
  • Describe something new that you learned, including how it might have changed your viewpoint on children with exceptionalities (such as, how research differs from what you thought was true or how an opinion or perspective was challenged).
  • Discuss something you learned in this course that you would like to continue learning more about. How might you apply this knowledge in your career goals?

Write your initial response in 300–500 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Instructions: You will draft a written report of approximately 800 to 1000 words plus tables. The report should explain your analysis, address the prompts, make a recommendation, and justify the recommendation. You may choose to address the case described on Blackboard (in the Course Information folder) or a real-world case of your own choosing that I approve in advance.
You may work individually or in groups of up to three people. If you decide to work in a group, however, any disputes between group members must be resolved within the group and you will not have the option of working independently if you commit to working in a group. In general, all group members will earn the same grade on their assignment. However, group members will be asked to evaluate each other and I may use these evaluations to adjust the grades assigned to individual group members.
Important details:
1. If you plan to work in a group, please send your section instructor an email by November 1 indicating who will be working together. Please be sure to cc all group members.
2. You (or your group) will turn in your final report, including tables and text, in a Word or PDF format. You will also submit your excel spreadsheet. You will submit all of this to your section instructor via email by Wednesday, December 9, 5pm. You will lose 10% every day it is late.
3. You (if doing the project individually) or your group must work independently. You must do the calculations and writing independent of other groups or individuals. Any evidence of collaboration between groups or individuals will result in a zero score for the groups/individuals involved. Conversation and discussion is fine, but any evidence of sharing excel files or the written report will be treated as evidence of a violation of academic integrity, and everyone involved (regardless of their role) will receive a zero score.
4. 50% of your grade on the project will be based on the accuracy of your calculations. We will grade individual portions of the calculations separately with the goal of not penalizing you twice for one mistake. That is, if you make a mistake in calculating OCF (as an example), but then use that incorrect number correctly from that point forward, you will receive credit for correctly using the incorrect number.
5. 30% of your grade will be based on the content of your written report. We will focus on how clearly and accurately you explained your analysis and responded to the prompts. We will also be concerned about whether the written report aligns with the calculations and tables. Do not make the mistake of glossing over important details or assuming we understand what you are intending with your writeup. Our advice is to write your report as though you were explaining your analysis to another student who is smart but does not understand project analysis as well as you. Such an approach will usually yield the right level of detail in your explanations.
6. 20% of your grade will be based on polish. Is it well written? Are there typos? Are there grammar mistakes? Is it well formatted? Does it look nice? Do the tables make sense? The answers to these questions will directly influence 20% of your grade (and indirectly influence the rest of your grade).
7. If you work in a group, you will be asked to evaluate your group members based on their teamwork. Were they actively engaged in the project? Did they put in the same effort as others? Did they do what they said they would do? Were they helpful and supportive of other group members? Would you work with that person again? Note that this will focus on attitude and engagement more than the quality of their contributions. The results of these evaluations MAY cause me to adjust an individual group member’s grade by up to 20%.
Please read this details carefully and let me know if you have any questions.

The ambulatory health service at a university is experiencing an increased number of student complaints concerning the services it offers in its walk-in urgent care clinic. Using the data in Table 14-5 on page 296 of the textbook, select a complaint for analysis. Your analysis must include a fish-bone chart, other appropriate charts (run and / or control), and any other techniques you deem necessary to analyze the data appropriately. Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you: Construct a fish-bone chart using Word or MS Paint. Construct a run and / or control chart using Excel. Recommend to the ambulatory health service on how it can improve the services it offers in its walk-in urgent care clinic, based on your analysis. Provide a rationale for your recommendation. Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements: Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions. Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

NEED THIS ASSIGNMENT BY 11AM TOMORROW!!! EXAMPLE PROVIDED
The Context versus Content Project includes two paper collages of magazine pictures, photographs or photocopies, which create two different meanings.
The context of an image (its surroundings, timeframe, culture or life of the artist) has a direct effect on the content or meaning that the viewer takes away from the experience. The student objective is to begin with two like images, such as a person, an animal, a car, landscape, etc. and use them in two entirely different contexts.
Consider some of the themes in Part 4 of our text. Think about sacred places, feminist issues, religious issues or any others themes. You might think about issues in your own life, about which you could create two different contexts, based on the same original image.
1. Find an image that interests you. Make two copies of it in black and white or in color, or find two very similar pictures.
2. Position each one on a piece of paper wherever you choose, and surround each picture with additional images to form two different collages (a collage is a collection of images glued together to form a new unified piece of artwork). Each of the collages should have differing pictures surrounding your original image.
3. If this exercise is successful, you should experience different content (feeling, meaning, interpretation) from each of the two collages.
4. Actual paper collage is preferred, but if you need to create on the computer, this is acceptable.

Assessment Instructions

Preparation
To prepare for this assessment, you will need to think about changes you feel are needed to address a problem either within nursing as a professional field or within the organization where you work. Narrow down your options by considering which change would best be undertaken by an interprofessional team. Some examples for you to consider might include:

The use of mobile and portable technology to support patients.
Using evidence-based practice (EBP) to improve patient care.
Increasing patient safety and quality of care.
The use of medical technology such as genes and stem cells, or robots in the OR.
Addressing the nursing shortage now and into the future.
Improving the work environment (providing calm, supportive spaces for nurses; improved dialog between health care professionals).
Better safety for nurses at work (violence, spreading diseases, physical injury).
Substance abuse by health care professionals.

Or you can narrow the scope to an issue within your own organization:

Developing a mobility program for an inpatient unit.
Implementing “smart” technology to assist in patient monitoring.
Creating a mentoring program to attract and retain nurses.
Implementing protocols for infection control and/or treatment of an epidemic.
Developing a plan to eliminate physical violence and verbal abuse in the workplace.
Other.

Once you have selected an issue to address, look for scholarly and professional articles that focus on the problem, the needed change, and how interprofessional teams can work together to drive change.
Requirements
Lately you have noticed the need for changes within your organization that would advance the field of nursing. You have decided to develop a proposal and submit it to executive leadership. Format this assessment as a professional proposal. You may want to look at how proposals are drafted within your organization and follow that format. You will still need a references page; follow APA guidelines for in-text citations and references.
Address the following in your proposal:

Briefly describe the problem and how it impacts the organization, patients, and/or the nursing profession.
Describe possible evidence-based interventions for the problem.
Analyze potential barriers and resistance to change that might come from the organization, patients, and/or colleagues.
Describe strategies to overcome barriers and resistance to change.
Develop a plan to implement evidence-based interventions. What steps would you take? What resources might you need?
Identify other health care professionals to enlist as team members to help drive change in the organization.

Your completed assessment should be 4–6 pages in length, not including title page and references page. Support your statements and intervention plan with references to and citations for at least four scholarly or professional resources.
Additional Requirements

Include a title page and references page.
Reference at least four current scholarly or professional resources.
Use APA format for citations and references.
Use Times New Roman font, 12 point.
Double space.

Scenario:

A 70 year-old patient has experienced a devastating stroke and is comatose in the intensive care unit on a ventilator. A family meeting was held. The hospital physician explained the irreversible damage to the brain, and discussed end of life care and withdrawal of life support. Family members acknowledge understanding and return to the patient’s room. As the RN was preparing to enter the room a family member is overheard to say, “Mom always said she didn’t want to be attached to a bunch of machines.” Another family member replies, “Don’t tell anyone she signed forms on the last admission, I don’t think we should take her off life support.”

Initial Discussion Post:

Address the following:

  • Describe two (2) ethical principles in conflict for the RN in the scenario.
  • What should the RN do in this scenario?
  • Refer to the 2015 American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics to resolve this dilemma. Provide a rationale that goes beyond your personal opinion.

Base your initial post on your readings and research of this topic. Your initial post must contain a minimum of 250 words. References, citations, and repeating the question do not count towards the 250 word minimum.

Consider these six elements: international child labor, globalization and human rights, international working standards, global environmental issues, global outsourcing, and cultural diversity. give one example of whistle blowing. Critique how it was handled. Was it well done? Consider the impact the individual as well as the country. Was it a loss or gain the example? Conclude with the importance of understanding these issues as a business chooses to go global.
