Anthropology essay

This assignment is worth 20 points (four articles, five points each)
This assignment must connect to the topic of your Research Paper (due 5/4/2018). Read the Research Paper assignment FIRST to understand the appropriate topics that you may choose for your research paper, then complete this Annotated Bibliography assignment.
The Annotated Bibliography assignment will help you start to identify appropriate source materials for your Research Paper. The point of this assignment is for you to evaluate the usefulness of each source you choose. In order to evaluate the usefulness of information, you first have to read and understand it!
PROCEDURE:
1) Go to the College of Alameda (CoA) Library website. Click on “Article Databases” in the menu on the left side of the CoA Library homepage, then click on Academic Search Premier (EBSCO) from the menu in the center of the page.
2) Log on with your last name and your CoA student ID number.
Type keyword(s) for your specific research topic into the EBSCO browser bar and click on Search.
For example, if your research paper topic is “Mousterian tools”, then that is your keyword search.
3) Look at the “Refine Results” menu on the left side of the screen. Scroll down to “Limit to”. Set the publication date to 2012 to 2018. The page will refresh.
4) If you need to limit your search further (see fewer articles), scroll down in the “Refine Results” menu and click on the “Magazines” selection box. You now should have a manageable number of articles for your topic.
ASSIGNMENT: For each of your four chosen articles on your personal research paper topic:
A) Write the full source citation in APA format. You may copy and paste using the citation tool on the right side of the EBSCO page, but be sure you know how to write an APA-format citation for your research paper. This is a valuable skill for your continuing college career.
B) Write brief bullet-point notes about the main points in the article (DO NOT copy and paste!)
C) Tell me if this is a good article or not to use as a source for your research paper and why.
Each article annotation should be at least 150 words in length (longer is acceptable, shorter is not).DO NOT write a summary of the article. DO NOT copy section(s) of the article.
REQUIRMENTS:
1) You must use the CoA Library EBSCO database to complete this assignment (online).
2) Full name, date and subject in the top left corner of your paper. Nothing else.
3) The source citations for this assignment must be written in APA format, not in MLA format.
You will lose points if you do not use APA citation format!
Example of APA source citation format =
Family name of author(s), followed by personal name initial(s). (Year of publication). Title of article.
Publication, volume number(issue number), page numbers. DOI number if available.
Include the DOI if it is available through the library database. Only about 60% of articles have this Digital Object Information number available at the moment, but the permanent collection of articles is growing.
Follow instructions! Part of your grade for this assignment is based on whether you do or not.
Grading Rubric:
Each annotated bibliography entry is worth 5 points (total 20 points):
1-2 points each for correct and complete APA source format
1-3 points each for addressing the information requested for your annotation (parts A, B and C).

As  health care delivery within the global community moves towards a  greater degree of digitization, there will likely be more technical  challenges health care delivery organizations must face as they move  from their existing legacy systems to those that are digital.

In  this Discussion, you will compare and contrast an electronic medical  record (EMR), electronic health record (EHR) and a personal health  record (PHR).

The Institute of Medicine has recommended that electronic health records (EHR) should possess eight core functions including:

• Health information and data
• Result management
• Order management
• Decision support
• Electronic communication and connectivity
• Patient support
• Administrative processes and reporting
• Reporting and population health

To  prepare for this Discussion, research the Internet for information on  EHR, EMR, and PHR, such as can be found at the Web site, http://www.healthit.gov/providers-professionals/benefits-electronic-health-records-ehrs.

In this Discussion, address the following:

•  Identify the primary differences between an electronic medical record  (EMR), electronic health record (EHR), and a personal health record  (PHR).
•  What are the primary technical and design complexity issues with  delivering these eight core functions? Choose one issue and identify how  you would address it.
• How does the integration that is required  between the EHR and other middleware products vary depending on whether  one is running locally, on an office-based LAN, or online within an ASP  model?

Illustrate your points in the context of a patient’s visit to a health care provider.

In a reflection of 750 words, explain how you see yourself fitting into the following IOM Future of Nursing recommendations:

  1. Recommendation 4: Increase the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80% by 2020.
  2. Recommendation 5: Double the number of nurses with a doctorate by 2020.
  3. Recommendation 6: Ensure that nurses engage in lifelong learning.

Identify your options in the job market based on your educational level.

  1. How will increasing your level of education affect how you compete in the current job market?
  2. How will increasing your level of education affect your role in the future of nursing?

While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

You are required to submit this assignment to Turnitin. Please refer to the directions in the Student Success Center

Nursing Journal Critique
What will happen to the readmission rate of patients with congestive heart failure if they receive strict follow up from nurses versus no follow up care within 30 days?
Please locate an academic nursing journal article related to congestive heart failure readmissions and follow up after discharge. Using the article selected, construct a critique of the article, 7-8 pages (including cover page and references).
· identify the problem statement or statement of purpose of the article
· describe the participants being studied, stating inclusion and exclusion criteria
· discuss the sampling issues, such as probability or nonprobability and number of subjects used
· identify the study setting—where data collection occurred
· discuss informed consent—whether the participants were fully informed, how their consent was obtained, and any other ethical considerations
· identify the hypothesis or research question
· identify the research design—for example, experimental or nonexperimental; descriptive, exploratory, explanatory, or predictive?
· identify research variables, both independent and dependent
· comment the on article’s literature review—how the study data were analyzed (what statistical measures were used)
· describe the results of the study and appropriateness of the methods used; include study limitations
· accurately critique comments on level of evidence used, nursing theory, and implications for nursing practice or research
· discuss how the research findings can be applied to the clinical area

  • The Eighth Amendment of our U.S. Constitution states: “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.”  The following website includes two dueling essays regarding the application of the Eighth Amendment’s “Cruel and Unusual Punishment” Clause, the contemporary perspective essay by Bryan A. Stevenson and the original-meaning essay by John F. Stinneford, https://constitutioncenter.org/interactive-constitution/amendments/amendment-viii.  Which view do you believe is the correct view and why?
  • Then, respond to the posts of at least two (2) other peers with comments that continue to drive the discussion.

Week 5 Hot Topic: Extra Credit
A small-town Arkansas police chief is out of a job this week after letting his MAGA rip on social media on Friday night, advocating for violence against Democrats in response to baseless claims they were stealing the presidential election.
Lang Holland, the police chief of Marshall, Ark., shared the posts on Parler, a Twitter-like app popular among and targeted toward conservatives (yes, someone found a way to make something even worse than Twitter). Among the posts was a meme likening the 2020 election to the Revolutionary War
“Death to all Marxist Democrats,” Holland wrote on Friday, under his own name and likeness. “Take no prisoners leave no survivors!!” Do not go to sleep. Do not forget what these Marxist Democrat bastards have tried to do,” Holland wrote in another post. “When you see one in public get in their face do not give them any peace. Throw water on them at restaurants. Push them off sidewalks. Never let them forget they are traitors and have no right to live in this Republic after what they have done.”
It likely didn’t help that Holland had already made news this year for publicly criticizing Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) for issuing a mask mandate for the state in July.
Holland defied the order and said he wouldn’t enforce it. He also implied that following the public safety protocol would lead to the United States decline into a “failed communist state” according to KATV.
As you might expect, people took issue with a person charged with protecting the public hopping online and advocating for flagrant violence, but the story took one more twist before Marshall Mayor Kevin Elliott called Holland into his office.
What are your thoughts?
Part 2
In November 1983, 14-year-old DeWitt Duckett was shot in the neck in a Baltimore high school over his Georgetown Starter jacket.
Three 16-year-old boys were arrested on Thanksgiving Day 1983 and charged with the murder. Alfred Chestnut, Ransom Watkins and Andrew Stewart were convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
The three, now in their 50s, were all released from prison on Monday fully exonerated after spending 36 years incarcerated for a murder they didn’t commit.
“On behalf of the criminal justice system, and I’m sure this means very little to you, I’m going to apologize,” Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Charles Peters said. People in the courtroom erupted in applause as he declared them innocent, The Washington Post reports.
In May, Chestnut had written a letter to Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby, along with evidence incriminating the man now believed to have been the actual shooter, and asked for her office’s Conviction Integrity Unit to reexamine the case as a wrongful conviction.
Investigators reinterviewed witnesses and looked anew at the evidence, and Mosby’s office says the findings were troubling: Witnesses were coached and coerced by investigators to say they’d seen the three, after twice failing to pick them out of a lineup. Witnesses identified a different young person as the shooter, but police instead focused on Chestnut, Watkins and Stewart. Defense attorneys had asked for evidence that might exonerate their clients, but prosecutors had said they had none.  The man now suspected of committing the murder was shot to death in 2002.
“Present day, all four of those witnesses have recanted,” Assistant State’s Attorney Lauren Lipscomb told the judge, according to The Baltimore Sun. “There is evidence of coerced pretrial preparation.  The exonerations bring to nine the number of people freed since 2015 owing to the efforts of the Conviction Integrity Unit, a division dedicated to uncovering wrongful convictions. The unit is funded by a federal grant and works in partnership with the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project and the University of Baltimore’s Innocence Project Clinic.
“These three men were convicted, as children, because of police and prosecutorial misconduct. What the state, my office, did to them is wrong. There is no way we can ever repair the damage done to them. We can’t be scared of that and we must confront it,” Mosby said. “I want to thank these men from the bottom of my heart for persevering for decades to prove their innocence. They deserve so much more than an apology.”  Mosby says she will push for state legislation that would require the state to provide compensation for exonerees.
What are your thoughts about exonerated inmates who sometimes spend decades behind bars?  Should they be compensated?  If so, how would you calculate what is owed to that person, and if there is evidence of Police and Prosecutorial misconduct, what should happen in regard to that?

Question 1.
Explain regulations or laws that prescribe how health information professionals are to handle archived or inactive medical records.

Your response must be at least 200 words in length.

Question 2.
Discuss the various ways that patient records are authenticated.

Your response must be at least 200 words in length.

Question3
As part of the health information management committee at Sunny Valley Hospital, you have been asked by the chief information officer to review abbreviations used in medical documents filed in the patient record. Prepare a summary of your findings, discussing the importance of establishing a facility policy and procedure on the appropriate use of abbreviations. Describe issues that can arise if health information management professionals are not properly trained in the documentation of medical records. Why is knowing the proper documentation techniques important?

Your response must be at least 500 words in length.

Q2

When dealing with ethical situations, healthcare professionals can refer to:
1. Ethics Review Board
2. Laws and Policies
3. The Patient Care Partnership
An active discussion is the key to an interesting and engaging online course. Discussion in this course is designed to simulate a classroom discussion. As others join in the discussion, you should read what has already been posted and continue on with the discussion from there. We will go through the questions one at a time, moving on to the next question once we have fully explored the current question. I will guide you through the discussions.
1. Select to review The Patient Care Partnership (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. [PDF, 238.59 KB] document.
2. Choose one aspect of the document and base your initial post on how the healthcare professional is involved in upholding the rights of the patient.
3. Describe one example of upholding the rights of a patient and how these rights might be violated in your place of employment and what measures you would take to resolve it.

WEEK 11

You as the advanced practice nurse are working in a community mental health center. Your next patient is Mrs. Richards,  a 39 year-old Caucasian female, presenting to the clinic with depression and complaints of anxiety and fatigue. During the initial interview, it is revealed that her husband and two children were killed in a traffic accident 8 months ago. Based on your knowledge of the self-transcendence theory, discusstwo specific measures and/or  interventions that you can implement for this patient to help facilitate self-transcendence. Also, list one scholarly, practice-based resource (article and/or clinical guideline) that supports the use of  this theory in clinical practice.

*As a reminder, all questions must be answered to receive full credit for this discussion. please include your name in the title bar of the discussion. Also, make sure to use scholarly sources to support your discussion.**

Random observation
Students will conduct a random observation on a subject of their choice and submit their observation. Random observations could be conducted in any social setting such as work place, a family or friend gathering, a party, an event of a volunteer or non-profit organization, a religious or traditional ritual occasion etc. First, students are expected to read;
1) Geertz, C. (1973). Thick description, The interpretation of cultures. New York: Basic. and
2) Mills, C. W. (1959). The promise. The sociological imagination, 3-24.
Second, apply the two readings to their observations. In other words, they are expected to see the general (bigger picture) by looking at particular (the expectation is to find (indicate) as many larger social phenomena as possible, which appear to be role players in shaping the particular case you will be observing)
Third, apply “thick description” to their observations by taking Geertz’s points into consideration.
Expectations of the assignment will become clear once you read those two pieces and attend the lecture on sociological imagination.
Observations should be at least 1500 word (5 pages long), have a cover page, 1 inch margin, double space, Times New Roman 12. (APA or Chicago)
