Module 3 – SLP

PATHOGENICITY, IMMUNOLOGY AND EPIDEMIOLOGY

For this SLP, you will discuss the importance of epidemiology to public health. Research one current example of a disease outbreak and how knowledge of its epidemiology can help health care professionals protect people from disease. (HINT: The CDC and WHO websites are excellent sources of information for this topic). You will present your chosen disease outbreak as a Powerpoint presentation by addressing the topics below:
The following links are helpful guides on using PowerPoint.

PowerPoint Links
Slide 1: Name and describe the microorganism (bacteria or virus) responsible for the outbreak. Briefly introduce your readers to the history of the disease outbreak. Provide an image of the causative agent (microorganism).
Slides 2-3: Where has the outbreak been found globally? Where has it been found in the United States? Describe the specific locations. Provide at least one image of its current distribution.
Slide 4: How is the causative agent transmitted to humans?
Slides 5-6: What are the symptoms of the disease caused by the microorganism? What does the clinical presentation look like in affected patients? What are the complications?
Slide 7: How is it diagnosed? What tests are used?
Slides 8-9: How is the disease treated? What preventative measures are being used locally or globally to control future outbreaks? What is the CDC doing to control the outbreak?
Slide 10: Include any additional interesting facts or figures about the disease outbreak or causative agent.
Slide 11: References.

SLP Assignment Expectations

For this SLP Assignment you will develop a PowerPoint presentation that is approximately 11 slides in length and addresses the requirements outlined above. Place the text containing the answers to the questions above in the slide area. Do a Google search to find images to support the data required and/or use images you have collected from the previous modules. Be sure your last slide includes the full references for any information or images used in your presentation. Please see the rubric for a complete description of grading criteria.

Epidermal Cell

Topic 3 Incredible Cells
Please watch this brief video as an introduction to different types of cells: Even though the basic composition of most cells are similar, there are many different types of specialized cells found in various organisms. For this discussion please choose one type of cell to research and describe.Choose one type of cell not yet described by other students (easier the earlier you post!).
Briefly describe the structure and role of your chosen specialized cell. How is this type of cell unique compare to other types of cells? Include an image of your cell in your post.
You main response should be at least 150 words and include references to all information sources used.

Journaling provides a valuable tool for recording, reflecting on, and reviewing your learning. This approach provides an opportunity for you to “connect the dots” and observe the relationships between and among activities, interactions, and outcomes.

Unlike a personal journal of thoughts and feelings, this Leadership Journal is a record of your activities, assessments, and learning related to this academic experience.

Journal entries should include a record of the number of hours spent with your nurse leader each week.

Write a journal entry of 1,000-1,500 words on the subject of power, including the following:

1. Provide observations and thoughts on the activities in Weeks 1-2.

· Why all nurses should be considered leaders and the secular approach to leadership in comparison to servant leadership

2. Identify your given “power” at your workplace or in your professional life. What is your greatest contribution in the lives of others?

3. Find three people with whom you interact professionally and ask them to affirm the influence you bring to their lives. How and why did you choose the individuals? What pearls of wisdom did they share that you had not considered?

4. Reflect on at least two things you learned from the “Issue of Power” video.

Considering that average middle class families have been losing their homes due to foreclosures, a consequence of loss of employment and the crash of the housing market, how do you address the following concerns and questions brought forth by the Wright family at a town hall meeting.

 1. John Wright: “Up until 6 months ago, I was employed, and thus able to pay my mortgage and property taxes. I was let go and the town has placed a lien on my home. I do not want my family to become a statistic. How can you turn us out to the streets?”
 2. Cathy Wright: “What programs are available to assist families like us who want employment and want to pay our mortgage?”
 3. John Wright: “Where can I find an advocate who will speak for families?”

Research programs in your own community that might help the Wright family, discussing at least two programs that would help the family. Also, in your initial response please be sure to include the actions (two at minimum) you would take as the town manager who heard from the Mr. and Mrs. Wright at this meeting.

It is necessary to explore all of the stakeholders involved within a software’s development to understand the pedigree of the software from a security standpoint. This will then allow a security professional to make informed decisions toward risk management.
Explore where and how the Adobe reader software is developed. In 500-750 words, report your findings. Make sure to address the following:

 1. Where does Adobe indicate their product is located/headquartered?
 2. Where is the software really developed and by whom?
 3. How many are involved in the development of Adobe and what threat might that pose to end users?
 4. What best practices should be considered during the development of the software to reduce security issues in reference to Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)?

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Organizational Structures and Leadership In most health care settings, it is unlikely that you would hear the terms “ad hoc” or “matrix” as you walk down the hallway. Although it is helpful for any organization to delineate pathways of responsibility and authority in an organizational chart, the lived experience of these structures is most apparent through the inquiries and behaviors people share everyday. In your own workplace, you may find yourself wondering, who should I turn to when I have a practice dilemma? or Where can I go to learn more about this issue? These questions speak to the intricacies of formal and informal organizational structure and leadership. To prepare:

 • Review the information presented in Chapter 12 of the course text. Focus on the information about formal versus informal structure as well as the types of organizational structures.
 • Consider the overall structure or hierarchy of your organization or one with which you are familiar. Which organizational structure best describes your organization—line (or bureaucratic), ad hoc, matrix, service line, or flat? Note: It is possible to have a combination of structures in one organization. Is decision making centralized or decentralized in this organization?
 • What is the role of committees, task forces, and councils in the organization, and who is invited to join? Consider how this relates to formal and informal leadership.
 • Reflect on how decisions are made within a specific department or unit. Which stakeholders provide input or influence the decision-making process? Assess this in terms of formal and informal leadership.
 • To support your analysis, consider your own experiences and investigate these matters by speaking with others at the organization and reviewing available documents. Be sure to consider how the concepts of formal and informal structure and leadership relate to one another and are demonstrated in the organization and in the particular department or unit.
By Day 3 Post a depiction of your organization’s formal structure, indicating whether it is best described as line, ad hoc, matrix, service line, flat, or a combination. Describe how decisions are made within the organization and within one department or unit in particular, noting relevant attributes of centralized/decentralized decision making. Explain the influence of formal and informal leadership on decision making within this department or unit.]]>

Instructions:

You have been selected to work on a project in the obstetrical clinic. Your task is to investigate the association of small fetal size on ultrasound at 10-19 weeks gestation, with maternal tobacco use and subsequent early preterm birth & low birth weight.

Step One: Write out a hypothesis for this retrospective study, and design how you would conduct the investigation and research. Include how you would present the statistical data (descriptive and inferential). Be sure to detail any ethical issues and/or HIPPA issues.

Step Two: In a 3-5-page paper compile your research and ideas into a cohesive, professional document with a minimum of two outside resources and proper APA format.

Case Study:

For years, Victoria has been torn between the desire to practice nursing in the vibrant, metropolitan city, or in her peaceful, mountainous hometown in the country with her family. She wonders how the two experiences differ. How do the demands differ? How does the technology differ? To learn more about these differences, she explores a variety of education scenarios, including computer-based virtual reality, simulations, and real life scenarios in both urban and rural settings. How do you think the demands and technologies differ? How can virtual reality, simulations, and real life scenarios be designed to provide optimal education for nursing students? How might they be integrated into the nursing school curriculum to increase patient, practitioner, and hospital safety?
