    Library Research

You are working on researching your topic for the persuasive essay, which will require you to support your main points with facts, examples, and quotes from secondary sources. This assignment helps you get started with locating helpful sources for your essay. For this assignment, you will find two scholarly sources and create an annotated bibliography that includes information about each source through the South University Online Library.
You will use the SUO Online Library for this assignment. It is easy to access, and SUO has access to thousands of publications, including your local newspapers. The reference librarians are ready to help you locate articles through the library databases.
    Assignment Guidelines:

    1. Locate two sources that you have discovered through your library research. Cite each of these sources as you would in an APA style reference page entry. You may visit the South University Online Citation Resources: APA Style page for help.
    2. Directly below each citation, summarize the main ideas of the article in a paragraph.
    3. Directly below the summary, in another paragraph, explain how the source has been useful for exploring your topic or will be useful in your persuasive essay.

    Example:
Gershon, L. (2018, October 17). The case for lowering the voting age. JSTOR Dailyhttps://daily.jstor.org/case-lowering-voting-age/
This article explores the debate about whether the voting age should be lowered to 16. Some people may think it is unfair that 16 year olds are allowed to work and are required to pay taxes but cannot voice their opinions by voting. The author explains why she believes the voting age should be lowered. According to her perspective, many young people are in fact more responsible than adults when it comes to making big decisions that may affect their community or country.
This source is useful for my paper because it shows both perspectives on the issue of lowering the voting age to 16. By sharing both sides, the article helps me to understand my audience for my essay. The author seems credible and makes logical arguments in support of her claim, and she acknowledges alternate opinions and refutes those arguments.

    Discussion Details:

By the due date assigned, post the results of your Library Search to the Discussion Area. Then, by the end of the week, respond to at least two classmates’ posts with helpful feedback. Ask questions about classmates’ topics or searches, and make suggestions for further research and development.

Workflow analysis aims to determine workflow patterns that maximize the effective use of resources and minimize activities that do not add value. There are a variety of tools that can be used to analyze the workflow of processes and clarify potential avenues for eliminating waste. Flowcharts are a basic and commonly used workflow analysis method that can help highlight areas in need of streamlining.

In this Assignment, you select a common event that occurs regularly in your organization and create a flowchart representing the workflow. You analyze the process you have diagrammed and propose changes for improvement.

    To prepare:

    • Identify a common, simple event that frequently occurs in your organization that you would like to evaluate.
    • Consider how you would design a flowchart to represent the current workflow.
    • Consider what metrics you would use to determine the effectiveness of the current workflow and identify areas of waste.

    To complete:

Write a 3- to 5-page paper which includes the following:

    • Create a simple flowchart of the activity you selected. (Review the Sample Workflow of Answering a Telephone in an Office document found in this week’s Learning Resources for an example.)
    • Next, in your paper:
      • Explain the process you have diagrammed.
      • For each step or decision point in the process, identify the following:
        • Who does this step? (It can be several people.)
        • What technology is used?
        • What policies and rules are involved in determining how, when, why, or where the step is executed?
        • What information is needed for the execution of this step?
      • Describe the metric that is currently used to measure the soundness of the workflow. Is it effective?
      • Describe any areas where improvements could occur and propose changes that could bring about these improvements in the workflow.
      • Summarize why it is important to be aware of the flow of an activity.
    • Remember to include a cover page, introduction, and summary for your paper.
This is the moment where you will show your ability to critically engage with the course’s topics. You will pick any of the three readings to critically analyze. Each paper should be 2,000-2,500 words in length. I do not want a summary of the reading as this is not a summary paper. Instead, you are expected to analyze your chosen reading through an ethnographic lens using the class material and research. It helps to imagine that if you present this paper to someone that has never taken this class before, will they learn about ethnography? The answer to this imagined question will be the key to success in your paper. Use the following questions to help guide your analysis paper:

    • What is Ethnography?
    • Why is Ethnography important?
    • Why did you pick this ethnography to analyze?
    • How does the ethnographer examine the population and culture being studied in the ethnography?
    • What are the methods (such as interviews, fieldnotes, participant observation, etc) used in this ethnography? Why were these methods important?
    • What are some of the pros and cons of ethnography?
    • How does the ethnographer engage with global and sociohistorical issues through their ethnography?

All copies of your final paper will be submitted to the instructor electronically, by 11:55 PM on the due date. Final Paper will be graded based on the following criteria.

    • Length: Each paper should be 2000-2500 words in length NOT including cover page, footnotes/endnotes, Titles, or Bibliography.
    • Formatting: Times New Roman Size, 12 sized, Double Spaced. There must be an introduction where you will present your argument and a conclusion.
    •  Citations: You are free to use whichever format you like (MLA, APA, Harvard, etc.) However, every resource must be cited in-text with Author’s Last Name, Year Published, & Page Number.
    • No Use of Quotes: Quotes are not allowed.
    • Original Content: Using a paper or material from a previously submitted paper from another course is not allowed. All content must be original.
    • Grammar: Grammar is part of your grade, so I expect proper grammar and sentence structure.
