Project 1: Promoting Health Care Quality
In this course, you develop a comprehensive Course Project: Promoting Health Care Quality.
To initiate this project, this week you examine the systems and structures of an organization with which you are familiar.
Organizational Systems and Structures Evaluation
When a problem related to health care quality and patient safety arises, there can be an inclination to focus on a specific event rather than to examine the larger context surrounding it. Analyzing the systems and structures within an organization provides a foundation for generating a fuller understanding of how and why the event occurred and for developing strategies to address the underlying issues. Perhaps more importantly, such an analysis can be used to proactively identify potential challenges and improve organizational systems and structures in order to promote positive outcomes. In the first section of your Course Project, you analyze the systems and structures of a health care organization with which you are familiar.
To prepare: Identify a health care organization with which you are familiar; one that you will be able to sufficiently analyze to complete the full scope of the Course Project.
Select two or more of the following frameworks: o Learning organizations o Complex adaptive systems (CAS) o Clinical microsystems o Good to great o
The 5 Ps You may use the same frameworks that you addressed in this week’s Discussion.
With these frameworks in mind, analyze the systems and structures of the organization. Be sure to research and consider: o Mission, vision, and values o Strategic plan, goals, and objectives, if possible o Key operational processes and patterns o Information technology use o Organizational priorities and investments, as indicated by financial data.
Section 1: Organizational Systems and Structures Evaluation As you continue your evaluation of a health care organization, it is essential to pay attention to culture. Organizational culture provides the context in which all interactions and processes occur, and is therefore central to any effort to enact change. To prepare: •Continue to analyze your selected organization, as indicated in Week 3 (Section 1 of the Course Project). •In addition, consider the ideas and information exchanged in this week’s Discussion. Continue to analyze essential elements of organizational culture and evaluate the influence of culture on the ability to achieve goals within your selected organization.
To complete: Write a 4- to 5-page paper in which you:
•Provide a description of the organization you selected
•Present your analysis of the organization with attention to:
•Its mission, vision, values
•Strategic plan, goals, and objectives
•Key operational processes and patterns
•Information technology use
•Organizational priorities and investments, as indicated by financial data
•The essential elements of the organization’s culture
•The influence of culture on meeting organizational goals.

UncategorizedThe reflection is personal and should address and include certain sections as discussed below. It is NOT A SUMMARY of each the chapters or lectures.
Length:
Your reflection should be 4-5 pages in length double spaced 12 point font.
Structure:
Your reflection should have a title, a brief introduction, all 3 sections listed and explained below (personal application reflection, class content reflection, and online class format/structure reflection) and a conclusion. Additional content of personal experience is welcome although not required.
Personal application reflection: this section should introduce and briefly explain one, two or three concepts from the chapter/s (e.g. ethnocentrism; high context; cultural shock…) this should not be more than half of a page in length at most. After you introduce the concept, you analyze it looking into how you may have seen it in your life and how; you should provide concrete examples from your life or that of other people close to you (e.g. gender roles, as I was growing up I was taught that…). If you disagree with the certain concept (e.g. the chapter says that Greek culture is high context in general and you disagree) you may provide arguments why you disagree. Please note that the sample personal application reflection is provided on blackboard and is a sample for content and not length nor in covers all required sections. Make sure that your transition between the concepts you choose to reflect on and discuss is smooth.
Class content reflection: in this section you will focus on the material discussed in class e.g. the lectures, chapters and text, video links, activities and self-assessments, guest speaker recorded lecture, discussion boards, speakers and topics for extra credit opportunities…etc. In this section you will write your own assessment of all or some of these.
Online class format/structure reflection: in this section please focus on the format of the class; you may discuss what worked for you? What did not work? What you liked and what you wished was different. While we all may have preferred the class to be face to face and you may mention this if you like, please focus in this section on the class’ online format itself.
Other: you surly can add anything that you would like to share which you may not have mentioned in the other sections.
Conclusion: Please conclude with a brief paragraph assessing your overall experience in this class.

Unionization and the Nursing Profession Essay Assignment
Nursing HomeworksUnionization and the Nursing Profession Essay Assignment
Unionization is a highly charged topic. No matter what your beliefs or thoughts are on the subject, one thing is clear—nurse managers have a significant responsibility to promote the goals of their organizations while appreciating the labor concerns that may prompt employees to join unions. Beyond that, it is helpful to reflect on the core values of nursing and consider the extent to which they align with unionization.
To prepare:
ORDER A CUSTOM-WRITTEN PAPER
Post your position on whether unionization aligns with or conflicts with a professional nursing orientation and what this may mean for the role as a nurse manager. Share your experiences working in a unionized setting or describe what might be required of you when transitioning from one circumstance to another.

How do you deal with the loss of identity?

ROXANNE BEHARIE

Alzheimer’s disease is an irreversible degenerative brain disease that attacks an individual especially as they age, causing them to experience cognitive and memory loss.
How do you deal with the loss of identity?
BRAIN DISEASE
Alzheimer’s patient require caregiving support as the disease progresses, and eventually their identity cannot be defined, because who you were to them, is not who they know now, therefore, the research question would be, How can you manage the loss of identity?
BRAIN DISEASE
The progressive decline in memory loss as well as cognitive ability tends to cause them to exhibit mood swings. Alzate, (2018), “The patient initially demonstrates insidious impairment of higher intellectual functions, with alterations in mood and behavior.
BRAIN DISEASE
Orona, (2002). In the research study, the researcher was able to identify the importance of identity loss, especially when family members of Alzheimer’s patient try to manage their physical presence but not the cognitive presence.
Kontos, (2004). In this research study, the researcher was concerned about the role of the nursing care provider’s knowledge caring for a total stranger with different behaviors which includes memory loss. As described in the article, “Several investigators have lamented the prevalence of negative attitudes towards individuals with Alzheimer’s disease in nursing homes”.
BRAIN DISEASE
GROUNDED THEORY
Interviewing the family members is very critical in the research for Alzheimer’s disease because it reveals the truth on a personal experience.
It allows for personal interaction and observation with the caregiving family members that are involved in the situation.
Surveys are conducted across the board for multiple patient with Alzheimer’s.
Questionnaires are handed out too in the process for those that would not want to talk to the interviewer.
BRAIN DISEASE
Qualitative design would be ideal for the research to determine the impact of Alzheimer’s disease on caregiving family members. I would apply the use of grounded theory, by conducting interviews, observations which will give me a better picture of what the caregiving family members are experiencing. “Qualitative data add an in-depth understanding of research results and allow the researcher to explore anomalies or subgroups within the data.” Hesse-Biber, (2010).
BRAIN DISEASE
INFORMED CONSENT AND COFIDENTIALITY
American Psychological Association. (2010), 8.03 Informed consent for recording voices and images in research. Psychologists obtain informed consent from research participants prior to recording their voices or images for data collection. American Psychological Association. (2010), “6.01, Documentation of Professional and Scientific Work and Maintenance of Records.) (b) If confidential information concerning recipients of psychological services is entered into databases.”
BRAIN DISEASE
ADDRESSING ETHICAL ISSUES
It is important to explain to the caregiving family member the purpose of the research and what the research will include, and let them know that they may not answer any question if they decide not to answer.
Also, it is important to inform the family members that their information will not be shared without their written or verbal permission.
I believe it will address the ethical issues that could arise if it was not addressed before the research.
BRAIN DISEASE
FAMILY MEMBER LOSING IDENTITY
The research process was able to identify real life experience by caregiving family members which gave a clearer perspective of the gradual loss of who they are and who they have become to the Alzheimer’s family member. As indicated in the journal, “Support must be forthcoming to aid in the loss that is being sustained: that of a person, a relationship, and of a self.” Orona, (2002). The research will give caregiving family members new techniques on how to manage their family member with Alzheimer’s disease identity loss.

EXPLORE HOW QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMS COULD BE SYSTEMATICALLY USED IN PUBLIC HEALTH SYSTEMS.
UncategorizedAs demands on the U.S. public health system continue to increase, more quality improvement strategies are needed to support the system and improve outcomes. Public health agencies, like leaders in other industries, are developing quality improvement approaches for application in public health settings. Bringing together local, state and national healthcare practitioners and other stakeholders in quality improvement and quality assurance efforts has yielded several best practices and lessons for public health stakeholders. However, more work is needed if quality improvement is to become standard practice in public health.
Instructions
In this assignment you will read the article “Quality Improvement in Public Health: Lessons Learned from a Multi-State Learning Collaborative.” You will list the major concepts within the article and explain the positive outcomes in the two case studies. Further explore the how quality improvement programs could be systematically used in public health systems and explain the goals, values, and vision that should be considered in implementing such programs. Finally, consider the future, after such programs have been created and findings have been determined. How would ensure that the findings are implemented and followed in public health and public health policy in the future? This paper should be at least 1000 words in length. The paper has at least three references. Your writing should be well ordered, logical and unified, as well as original and insightful. All sources used should be properly cited using APA formatting.

UncategorizedYour paper should meet the following requirements:
Power Point On Kidney Cancer
Nursing HomeworksPower Point On Kidney Cancer
A) The poster part of the project should include, at a minimum, the following information (5 points per section): • Introduction and general characteristics of the disease (take-home message). • Special susceptibility to suffer this cancer (i.e., white skin for melanoma, immunocompromised (HIV) for Kaposi sarcoma, etc.) Carcinogens involved? Chemical? Physical? Biological? Explain the mechanism in detail. Does this cancer have a hereditary component? If so, explain. • General characteristics of the tumor (where it originates, driver genes, subtypes, etc) • The signs and symptoms of the disease. Disease progression. Preferred sites of metastasis. What organ system(s) do metastasis affect? • Tests used to monitor the population as a preventive measure. Laboratory tests used to absolutely confirm the identity of the disease, i.e. biopsy with immunohistochemistry. Be specific for this cancer! • Methods used to reduce the incidence of the cancer (ie. Prevent second hand smoking, ban tobacco ads, etc.). • Treatment for the disease (talk about how it works and side effects). Life expectancy in 5 or 10 years after diagnosis with/without treatment. Is there a novel treatment available? If so, discuss the treatment, side effects etc. If no novel treatment is available, why not? Is work being done to develop one? • Current cases locally (San Diego/California/US when available) and globally (with incidence) B) Be VERY careful when referencing online sites. Each underscore, period, or capital letter must be exact, or we will not be able to find the site. Always check your references before reporting them by using the OPEN feature on your browser. If your reference will not open, it will not be counted toward your grade. It is important that the above information be complete, and that it be presented in a logical and orderly manner. If you don’t it will be obvious, and you will end up losing points (quality and effective communication: 10 of the 80 points). I do look at all of the posters in great detail. Your poster must be presented on a large, tri-fold, standing poster board. When selecting online references remember that not all information on the Internet is reliable. Always try to use journal articles or governmental documents as the “authority,” and not rely on commercial sites (.com). Wikipedia, WebMD, Healthline, Mayo Clinic are NOT an acceptable references. Two references with the same URL except for the last part will be considered the same reference, like different pages in a book. Include all sources used; reference books and periodicals by a standard format. Be sure that you reference all photos/charts that you use on or below the item on the poster. A minimum of five reliable, scientific references (books, publications or Internet) plus any other references used. (10 of the 80 points) To report your sources, prepare a bibliography at the end of your poster presentation and number all references used. Then in the body of your poster, provide the number of the reference you used for information. This is called end notes, which you have probably used for other research papers. As with any report, be sure that you are not directly copying or simply paraphrasing material that you use. If you choose to use direct quotes from the article, you must use quotation marks. I will be checking the references, so be sure NOT to plagiarize! Any phrase longer than 5-6 words in length taken from the source, which is then copied and pasted in the presentation might be considered plagiarism. A one-page handout (brochure) that would be suitable to explain the critical aspects of the disease to the general public (15 points). Example of brochures are available at the bottom of this document. This brochure should include useful information starting with a brief introduction about the cancer and the organ affected, risk factors, information or aid for the identification of that tumor (need to know…), preventive tests you can take if you are at high risk, what if you are diagnosed with this cancer (tests to confirm diagnosis, treatment, …), etc. AIM: Try to think on a person that might have just discovered an abnormal growth on any site of his/her body. This person has zero knowledge about cancer or biology of cancer but he/she will need useful information about that cancer, diagnostics, what to do if the symptoms match with the description and what if he/she is finally diagnosed with cancer. THE POSTER PRESENTATION WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE END APRIL/ BEGINNING OF MAY (Please, get it done ASAP since you will be pretty busy at that point with other exams/finals). Specific dates will be announced after spring break. Late projects will not be accepted. You must be able to explain the poster in detail to other students (including non-Biol316 students, since posters will be displayed to the general public). There are five required parts of an Internet reference in order to receive full credit: • the author of the article, if available. • title of the article • the date written/updated • Internet address (URL). For example, https://www.cdc.gov/cancer/index.htm is the URL or reference for this page, which should show in your browser heading. An easy way to get this reference is to copy it from your browser and paste into your word processing program, so typos will not be made. • the date you visited the site.
